Ninth day Novena at Our Lady of Health, Harihar, Diocese of Shimoga

ಹರಿಹರದ ಮೈನರ್ ಬೆಸಿಲಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿಹರ ಮಾತೆಯ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆಗಾಗಿ ಒಂಬತ್ತನೇ ದಿನದ ನೊವೆನಾವು ಸಂಜೆ 5:30 ಕ್ಕೆ ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯ ಲೂರ್ಡ್ಸ್ ಬಾಲಕರ ಶಾಲೆಯ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಮತ್ತು ವರದಿಗಾರ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಸ್ಟಾನಿಸ್ಲಾಸ್ ಅವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಪವಿತ್ರ ರೋಸರಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು.

ರೋಸರಿ ನಂತರ ಗಂಭೀರ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹರಿಹರ ಮಠಕ್ಕೆ ಪುಷ್ಪ ನಮನ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ನಂತರ, ಬೆಸಿಲಿಕಾ ರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾರ್ಜ್ ಕೆ.ಎ. ಅವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ನೊವೆನಾ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಗಳು ನಡೆದವು.

ಸಂಜೆ 6:30 ಕ್ಕೆ, ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಬಿಷಪ್ ಅತಿ ವಂದನೀಯ ಡಾ. ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ ಸೆರಾವ್ ಎಸ್‌ಜೆ ಅವರು ಪವಿತ್ರ ಯೂಕರಿಸ್ಟ್ ಅನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರು ಈ ವಿಷಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚಿಂತನೆ ನಡೆಸಿದರು:

“ಮದರ್ ಮೇರಿ, ವಿಧವೆಯರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿಧವೆಯರ ತಾಯಿ”

ಬಿಷಪ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ ಸೆರಾವ್ ಅವರು ಎಕ್ಸೋಡಸ್ 22:21–27 ಮತ್ತು ಲೂಕ 7:11–15 ರ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಚಿಂತನೆಯನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವಿಧವೆಯರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿಧುರರ ನೋವು, ಹೋರಾಟಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಒಂಟಿತನವನ್ನು ಮಾತೃ ಮೇರಿ ಹೇಗೆ ಆಳವಾಗಿ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅವರು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು, ಅವರು ಸ್ವತಃ ವಿಧವೆಯರನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರ ಬದ್ಧತೆ, ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆ, ಧೈರ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯ ಜೀವನವು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರಿಗೆ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಹರಿಹರ ಮಠವು ಸಾಂತ್ವನ ಮತ್ತು ಭರವಸೆಯ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಬಿಷಪ್ ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು, ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವವರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವವರಿಗೆ. ನೋವು, ದುಃಖ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಕಟದಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬರುವ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮಾತೆ ಮೇರಿ ಸಾಂತ್ವನ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಭರವಸೆ ಮತ್ತು ನವೀಕೃತ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯತ್ತ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

ಪವಿತ್ರ ಯೂಕರಿಸ್ಟ್‌ನ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೈನರ್ ಬೆಸಿಲಿಕಾದ ರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾರ್ಜ್ ಕೆ.ಎ., ಯೂಕರಿಸ್ಟ್ ಅನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಿದ್ದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಕ ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬಿಷಪ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ ಸೆರಾವ್ ಎಸ್‌ಜೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಹೃತ್ಪೂರ್ವಕ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್ ಪರವಾಗಿ, ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾರ್ಜ್ ಕೆ.ಎ. ಬಿಷಪ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸಿದರು.

ಬಲಿಪೂಜೆಯ ನಂತರ, ಫಾದರ್ ಫ್ರಾಂಕ್ಲಿನ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಮತ್ತು ಫಾದರ್ ಪಿಯಸ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಗುಣಪಡಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಯೂಕರಿಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ಪಾದ್ರಿಗಳು ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮಾತೆಯ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ, ಸಾಂತ್ವನ ಮತ್ತು ಗುಣಪಡಿಸುವ ಅನುಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಕೋರಿ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದ ಹಲವಾರು ಯಾತ್ರಿಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದರು.

ಹೀಗೆ ನೊವೆನಾದ ಒಂಬತ್ತನೇ ದಿನವು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ, ಸಾಂತ್ವನ ಮತ್ತು ಗುಣಪಡಿಸುವಿಕೆಯ ಆಳವಾದ ಅನುಭವವಾಯಿತು, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಭಕ್ತರು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನ, ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಹೋರಾಟಗಳನ್ನು ಹರಿಹರ ಮಠದ, ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮಾತೆಯ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿದರು.

Ninth day Novena at Our Lady of Health, Harihar, Diocese of Shimoga

The ninth day of the Novena in preparation for the feast of Our Lady of Health, Harihara Matha, at the Minor Basilica, Harihara, began at 5:30 p.m. with the praying of the Holy Rosary led by Rev. Fr. Alvine Stanislaus, Manager and Correspondent of Lourdes Boys School, Davanagere.

The Rosary was followed by a solemn procession and floral homages offered to Harihara Matha. Thereafter, the Novena prayers were led by the Basilica Rector and Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. George K. A.

At 6:30 p.m., Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Mysore, celebrated the Holy Eucharist. In his homily, he reflected on the theme:

“Mother Mary, Mother of Widows and Widowers”
(ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಂಚಿಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ವಿಧುರ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಧವೆಯರ ಮಾತೆ)

Bishop Francis Serrao based his reflection on Exodus 22:21–27 and Luke 7:11–15. He explained how Mother Mary deeply understands the pain, struggles and loneliness of widows and widowers, having herself experienced widowhood. Her life of commitment, dedication, courage and responsibility, he said, should be an inspiration to all Christians.

The Bishop further emphasized that Harihara Matha is a place of consolation and hope, especially for those who are marginalized and pushed to the peripheries of society. Mother Mary consoles all those who approach her with pain, sorrow and suffering, leading them towards hope and renewed faith.

At the conclusion of the Holy Eucharist, Rev. Fr. George K. A., Rector of the Minor Basilica, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Francis Serrao SJ for celebrating the Eucharist and delivering the inspiring homily. On behalf of the Diocese of Shimoga, Fr. George K. A. honoured the Bishop.

Following the Mass, Rev. Fr. Franklin D’Souza and Rev. Fr. Pius D’Souza led the healing prayers and Eucharistic Benediction. The priests then prayed over the numerous pilgrims who had gathered, seeking the intercession, consolation and healing grace of Our Lady of Health.

The ninth day of the Novena thus became a profound experience of prayer, consolation and healing, as the faithful entrusted their lives, families and struggles to the loving intercession of Harihara Matha, Our Lady of Health.

ಪ್ರತಾಪಾನಂದ ನಾಯಕ್ ಎಸ್‌ಜೆ, ಬೊಮ್ ಜೀಸಸ್‌ನ ಬೆಸಿಲಿಕಾ, ಹಳೆಯ ಗೋವಾ

ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 1, 2026 ರಂದು ಮರು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ

ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 08 ರಂದು, ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಥೊಡಾಕ್ಸ್ ಚರ್ಚುಗಳು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಪೂಜ್ಯ ವರ್ಜಿನ್ ಮೇರಿಯ ಜನನೋತ್ಸವದ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ, ಹದಿನಾರನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಮೋಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈಗ ದುರದೃಷ್ಟವಶಾತ್, ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಮರೆತುಬಿಡಲಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ಪೂಜ್ಯ ವರ್ಜಿನ್ ಮೇರಿಯ ಜನನೋತ್ಸವ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಿಂಧುದುರ್ಗ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಈಗ ವೈಲಂಕಣಿಯ ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಹಬ್ಬ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ, ಇಂದು ಮೋಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಹಬ್ಬವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ 98 ರಿಂದ 99% ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಹಿಂದೂಗಳು ಮೂಲತಃ ಗೋವಾದವರು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು. ಅವರು 16 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಿಂದ ವಿವಿಧ ಕಾರಣಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದರು, ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ

1. 1553, 1630-1631 ರ ಕ್ಷಾಮ (ಟಿಯೋಟೋನಿಯೊ ಆರ್. ಡಿ ಸೌಜಾ 2009: 30; ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999a:24; ಬಿ.ಎಸ್. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ 2000:257).

2. ಆಹಾರ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಸಿತ (ಬಿ.ಎಸ್. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ 2000:257).

3. ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟಗಳು. ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಂಡವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನದಿಂದ ವಂಚಿತರಾದರು. ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ಕುಲೀನರು ಮತ್ತು ಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ನರಿಗಿಂತ ಹಿಂದೂಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಗೌರವವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿದರು (ಟಿಯೋಟೋನಿಯೊ ಆರ್. ಡಿ ಸೌಜಾ 2009:196).

4. ಮತಾಂತರಗಳು ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಂಡವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವಮಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ತಂದವು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರನ್ನು ಸೆರೆಯಾಳುಗಳಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು (ಮಚಾಡೊ ಎ.2015:106). ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ವಲಸೆಯು ಆಯ್ಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿತ್ತು.

5. ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ರೋಗ 1543, 1545, 1570, 1583-88, 1618-19, ಮತ್ತು 1635 (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999a:23; ಬಿ.ಎಸ್. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ 2000:257).

6. 1667, 1683, 1739 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಾಠರ ಆಕ್ರಮಣ (ಟಿಯೊಟೊನಿಯೊ ಆರ್. ಡಿ ಸೋಜಾ 2009:30; ಮಚಾಡೊ ಎ.2015:102-104; ಪಿಯುಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999ಬಿ:18).

7. ವಿಜಯಪುರದ (ಹಿಂದೆ ಬಿಜಾಪುರ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು) ಆದಿಲ್ ಷಾ 1570 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು 1654-1659 ರ ನಡುವೆ ಬಾರ್ಡೆಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಲ್ಸೆಟ್ಟೆಯನ್ನು ಆಕ್ರಮಿಸಿದನು (ಟಿಯೋಟೋನಿಯೊ ಆರ್. ಡಿ ಸೌಜಾ 2009:30; ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999b:17; ಅಲನ್ ಮಚಾಡೊ 2015:102).

8. ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 1649 ಮತ್ತು ಜುಲೈ 1654 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭೂಕಂಪಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಎರಡು ತೀವ್ರ ಚಂಡಮಾರುತಗಳು (ಟಿಯೋಟೋನಿಯೊ ಆರ್. ಡಿ ಸೌಜಾ 2009:30).

9. 1560 ರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಚಾರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಲಾಯಿತು (ಬಿ.ಎಸ್. ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ 2000:257) ಮತ್ತು ಅದನ್ನು 1812 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ರದ್ದುಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಅದು ತನ್ನ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮನೋಭಾವದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸಹಿಷ್ಣುತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು, ಅದು ಗೋವಾದ ಹೊಸ ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಂಡವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಲವಂತವಾಗಿ ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ರೀತಿಯ ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಹೇರಲು ಬಯಸಿತು, ಅದು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕುರುಹುಗಳನ್ನು ತೊಡೆದುಹಾಕಲು ಬಯಸಿತು. ಅವರ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು, ಆಹಾರ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳು, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಗೆ ತೊಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹ ಯುರೋಪಿಯನ್ ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ಮಾನದಂಡಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇದು ಭಯ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭದ್ರತೆಯ ಭಾವನೆಯನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿತು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ, ಈ ದಬ್ಬಾಳಿಕೆಯ ವಲಸೆಯಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಒಂದೇ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999b:14-17).

10. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ಭಾಷೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೇರುವುದು ಮತ್ತು 27ನೇ ಜೂನ್ 1684 ರ ತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವರ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ನಿಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದು (ಟಿಯೋಟೋನಿಯೊ ಆರ್. ಡಿ ಸೌಜಾ 2009:67; ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999a:24).

11. ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರಿಂದ ಅತಿಯಾದ ತೆರಿಗೆ (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ, 1999a:15-16; ಅಲನ್ ಮಚಾಡೊ 2015:99).

12. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಸಮಾನರಾಗಿ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಲು ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಸಿದ್ಧರಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರು ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷೆ, ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಡವಳಿಕೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುವವರೆಗೂ ಅವರು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ತಾರತಮ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999b:16-17).

13. ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯಾ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999:18).

14. ಕೆಳದಿಯ ನಾಯಕ ರಾಜರು ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಕೃಷಿಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಬಡಗಿಗಳು, ಮೀನುಗಾರರು, ಕಲ್ಲುಕುಟಿಗರು, ಕುಂಬಾರರು, ಚಿನ್ನದ ಅಕ್ಕಸಾಲಿಗರು, ಉದ್ಯಮಿಗಳು ಮುಂತಾದ ನುರಿತ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999:19-20); ನಾಯಕ ರಾಜರ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಉದಾರವಾದದ ನೀತಿಯು ವಲಸೆ ಹೋಗಲು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು.

ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷಿ ಭೂಮಿ ವಿರಳವಾಗಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಫಲವತ್ತಾದ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಲಭ್ಯತೆ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಕೆಳದಿ ರಾಜ್ಯವು ನುರಿತ ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರ ಕೊರತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಶೂನ್ಯವನ್ನು ವಲಸೆ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರು ತುಂಬಿದರು (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999:18).

15. ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ವಲಸಿಗರು ಕೆಳದಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಖಾಲಿ ಕೈಗಳಿಂದ ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರ ಬಳಿ ಹಣವಿತ್ತು, ಅದನ್ನು ಅವರು ಕೆಳದಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೂಡಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಕೆಳದಿಯ ನಾಯಕರು ಗೋವಾದ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರ್ಣ ಹೃದಯದಿಂದ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು. (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999:19).

16. ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯ ಕೊರತೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಆಹಾರ ಉತ್ಪಾದನೆಯು ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಲ್ಕು ತಿಂಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಾಲ ಸಾಕಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಕೆನರಾದ ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಗೋವಾವನ್ನು ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿರಿಸಿತು (ಅಲನ್ ಮಚಾದೊ 2015:105). ಈ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯೂ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ವಲಸೆ ಬರಲು ಕಾರಣವಾಯಿತು.

17. ಶಿಸ್ತು, ಕಠಿಣ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ, ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೌಶಲ್ಯದ ಗುಣಗಳಿಂದ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತ ಕೃಷಿ ವಲಸಿಗರು ಕೆಲದಿ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿದರು (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999:19).

18. ಗೋವಾದ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುವುದು ರಾಜಕೀಯವಾಗಿ ಲಾಭದಾಯಕ ಎಂದು ಕೆಳದಿ ರಾಜರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿತ್ತು ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಈ ಕ್ರೈಸ್ತರು ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದಿದ್ದರು (ಪಿಯಸ್ ಎಫ್. ಪಿಂಟೊ 1999:20).

19. ವ್ಯಾಪಾರದ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯು ಕೊಚ್ಚಿನ್‌ಗೆ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದಿತು (ಕೇಣಿ 2008:275).

20. 1560 ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ, ಬಲವಂತದ ಮತಾಂತರ ಕಾನೂನುಗಳನ್ನು ವಿರೋಧಿಸಲು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ರಭಾವಿ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರನ್ನು ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಹೊರಹಾಕಲಾಯಿತು (ಮಚಾಡೊ 2022:295). ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಳ್ಳಲು ಇಷ್ಟಪಡದ ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಹಲವಾರು ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳು ನೆರೆಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದವು.

ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಹಿಂದೂಗಳು 10 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ, ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇರಳಕ್ಕೆ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದರು (ಅಲನ್ ಮಚಾಡೊ 2015:97). ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿಗಳು (ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಭಾಷಿಕರು) ಈ ಮೋಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ತಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಈಗ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಈ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್ ವಸಾಹತುಗಾರರು ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಹರಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರು ನೆಲೆಸಿದಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಮೋಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿಯ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಗುರುತಾಗಿ:

ದುರದೃಷ್ಟವಶಾತ್, ಮತ್ತು ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ, ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿಗಳನ್ನು “ಮಂಗಳೂರಿಗರು” ಎಂದು ಹಣೆಪಟ್ಟಿ ಕಟ್ಟಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮಂಗಳೂರು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ, ಉಡುಪಿ, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ, ಮೈಸೂರು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು, ಧಾರವಾಡ, ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ, ಕೊಡಗು, ಹಾಸನ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರೆಡೆ ವಾಸಿಸುವ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಂಬಂಧವಿಲ್ಲದ ಕೊಂಕಣಿಯರನ್ನು “ಮಂಗಳೂರಿಗರು” ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುವುದು ಅನ್ಯಾಯ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನವರು, ಗೋವಾದವರು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಗುರುತುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಘಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲ. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಗುರುತು ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕವಾಗಿ ಭಾಷಾ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿದೆ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ, ಗುಜರಾತಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವವರನ್ನು ಗುಜರಾತಿಗಳು ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಸಿಂಧಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವವರು ಸಿಂಧಿಗಳು ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಅವರ ಜನ್ಮ ಸ್ಥಳ ಅಥವಾ ವಾಸಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸದೆ. ಈ ತಾರ್ಕಿಕ ಅರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ವಂಶಾವಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದವರನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೊಂಕಣಿಗಳು ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಬೇಕು.

ಗೋವಾ ಆರ್ಚ್‌ಡಯೋಸಿಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೋಂಟಿ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್:

1838 ರವರೆಗೆ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಗೋವಾದ ಪುರೋಹಿತರು ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಂಟಿ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್ ಅನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸಿದರು. 1838 ರಲ್ಲಿ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ – ಮಂಗಳೂರು (ಹಿಂದೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು) ಅದರ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಚೇರಿ – ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಗೋವಾ ಆರ್ಚ್‌ಡಯೋಸಿಸ್‌ನ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಬೇರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ, ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 19, 1953 ರಂದು ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ (ಕಾರವಾರ ಅದರ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಕಚೇರಿ) ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯನ್ನು ಗೋವಾ ಆರ್ಚ್‌ಡಯೋಸಿಸ್‌ನ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಬೇರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗಳ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ, ಮೋಂಟಿ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಹಬ್ಬವಾಗಿ ಮುಂದುವರೆಯಿತು. ಈಗ ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಂಟಿ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್ ಹೇಗೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿತು ಎಂದು ನೋಡೋಣ.

ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರ ಆಗಮನ:

ನವೆಂಬರ್ 25, 1510 ರಂದು, ಎರಡನೇ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ಸೈನ್ಯದ ಕಮಾಂಡರ್ ಅಫೊನ್ಸೊ ಡಿ ಅಲ್ಬುಕರ್ಕ್ (1453-1515) ಬಿಜಾಪುರದ (ಈಗ ವಿಜಯಪುರ) ಆದಿಲ್ ಷಾ ಅವರಿಂದ ತಿಸ್ವಾಡಿಯನ್ನು ವಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ವಿಜಯದ ನಂತರ ಅವರು ಕೆಂಪು ಸಮುದ್ರದ ಕಮರನ್ ದ್ವೀಪದಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿಗೆ ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಹೇಳಲು ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಗೌರವಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಆದೇಶಿಸಿದರು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ 1510 -1519 ರ ನಡುವೆ, ಕ್ಯಾಪೆಲಾ ಡಿ ನೊಸ್ಸಾ ಸೆನ್ಹೋರಾ ಡೊ ಮಾಂಟೆ (ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಮೌಂಟ್ ಚಾಪೆಲ್) ಅನ್ನು ಗೋವಾ ನಗರದ (ಈಗ ಹಳೆಯ ಗೋವಾ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ) ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಅವರು ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 16, 1515 ರಂದು ನಿಧನರಾದರು. ಅವರ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಅವರನ್ನು ಆ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮಾಧಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. 1566 ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರ ದೇಹವನ್ನು ಲಿಸ್ಬನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನೊಸ್ಸಾ ಸೆನ್ಹೋರಾ ಡ ಗ್ರಾಕಾ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಮೌಂಟ್‌ನ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರವನ್ನು ಬಹುಶಃ ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಪುನರ್ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಇದು ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ಆಯಾಮವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ವಾಸ್ತವವಾಗಿ ಗೋವಾ ನಗರವು ದಟ್ಟವಾದ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾಗ ಅದು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಆಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರವು ಪರ್ವತದ ಮೇಲಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಮತ್ತು ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಮಾಂಟೆ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಪರ್ವತ ಎಂದರ್ಥ, ಆ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರವನ್ನು ಕೊಂಕ್ನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ “ಮೊಂಟಿ ಸೇಬಿನ್ನಿಚೆಮ್ ಕೊಪೆಲ್” (ಪರ್ವತದ ನಮ್ಮ ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ಚಾಪೆಲ್) ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಇದು ಮೂರು ಬಲಿಪೀಠಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು. ಮುಖ್ಯ ಬಲಿಪೀಠವನ್ನು ಪರ್ವತದ ನಮ್ಮ ಮಹಿಳೆಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಪಕ್ಕದ ಬಲಿಪೀಠಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡುವಾದ ಸಂತ ಅಂತೋನಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂತ ಅಂತೋನಿ, ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರದಿಂದಾಗಿ, ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 8 ರಂದು ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾರ್ವತ್ರಿಕವಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ನೇಟಿವಿಟಿ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಮೊಂಟಿ ಸೇಬಿನ್ನಿಚೆಮ್ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್ ಅಥವಾ ಮೊಂಟಿ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಯಿತು. 16 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಬಲಿಪೀಠವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈಗ ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 8 ರ ನಂತರ ಭಾನುವಾರ ಈ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಪ್ರತಿ ತಿಂಗಳ 8 ನೇ ತಾರೀಖಿನಂದು ಸಂಜೆ ಬಲಿಪೀಠವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಮುಂದುವರೆದಿದೆಯೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೋ ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ. 2001 ರವರೆಗೆ, ಈ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರವು ಹಾಳಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಂತರ ಫಂಡಾಕಾವೊ ಓರಿಯೆಂಟೆ ಗೋವಾ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪುನಃಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಯೋಜಿಸಿ ಹಣಕಾಸು ಒದಗಿಸಿತು. ಈ ಪುನಃಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರವು ಹಳೆಯ ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಶ್ಚಿಮಾತ್ಯ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪ್ರಕಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಲು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ಪಡೆದ ಮಾಂಟೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ಉತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲು ಇದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ವಿವಿಧ ದೇಶಗಳ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೇಮಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಈ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರವು ಅನೇಕ ಬಾಲಿವುಡ್ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್‌ಗಳ ಆಗಮನ:

1543 ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರು ಆದಿಲ್ ಷಾ ಅವರಿಂದ ಬಾರ್ಡೆಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಲ್ಸೆಟ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ವಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ತಿಸ್ವಾಡಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಈ ಎರಡು ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ವೆಲ್ಹಾಸ್ ಕಾಂಕ್ವಿಸ್ಟಾಸ್ (ಹಳೆಯ ವಿಜಯ) ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಯಿತು. ಮೇ 6, 1542 ರಂದು, ಸೊಸೈಟಿ ಆಫ್ ಜೀಸಸ್‌ನ ಮೊದಲ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ ಕ್ಸೇವಿಯರ್ ಗೋವಾ ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರು. ಅವರ ನಂತರ ಅನೇಕ ಇತರ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್‌ಗಳು ಬಂದರು. 1552 ರಲ್ಲಿ, ಡಚ್ ಮೂಲದ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿ ಫಾದರ್ ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ಪರ್ ಬಾರ್ಜಿಯಸ್ (1515-1553) ಗೋವಾಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರು. ಅವರು ಉತ್ತಮ ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿಭಾನ್ವಿತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ ಕ್ಸೇವಿಯರ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಗೋವಾ ನಗರದ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ಆಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸೊಸೈಟಿ ಆಫ್ ಜೀಸಸ್‌ನ ಪೂರ್ವ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಉಪ-ಪ್ರಾಂತೀಯವಾಗಿ ನೇಮಿಸಿದರು. ಫಾದರ್ ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ಪರ್ 1553 ರ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 18 ರಂದು ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧನರಾದರು. ಅವರು ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಅವರು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದರುಸೇಂಟ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೀತವನ್ನು ಕಲಿಸಲು ಡಿ. ಲ್ಯಾಟಿನ್ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ವಿದ್ಯಮಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುವ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಅವರು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು, ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಪ್ಲೇನ್‌ಚಾಂಟ್, ಪಾಲಿಫೋನಿ, ಪಾಶ್ಚಿಮಾತ್ಯ ಸಂಗೀತ ವಾದ್ಯಗಳು (ಆರ್ಗನ್, ಪಿಯಾನೋ, ಟ್ರಂಪೆಟ್, ಗಿಟಾರ್, ಪಿಟೀಲು, ವಯೋಲಾ, ಹಾರ್ಪ್, ಶಾಮ್, ಕೊಳಲು, ವಿಹುಯೆಲಾ, ಲೂಟ್, ಹಾರ್ಪ್ಸಿಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಮತ್ತು ತಾಳವಾದ್ಯ ಡ್ರಮ್), ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಒರೆಟೋರಿಯೊ, ಕ್ಯಾಂಟಾಟಾ, ವಿಲ್ಲಾನ್ಸಿಕೊ ಮತ್ತು ಒಪೆರಾದಂತಹ ಪಾಶ್ಚಿಮಾತ್ಯ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪ್ರಕಾರಗಳು. ಹಾಡಿದ ಮಾಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಗನ್‌ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪಠಣಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಮತ್ತು ಗಾಯಕರ ಮಾಸ್ಟರ್ (ಮೆಸ್ಟ್ರೆ ಕ್ಯಾಪೆಲಾ) ಹುದ್ದೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವರು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ಸಾಹಭರಿತಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗೀತವನ್ನು ಪಾಸೋಸ್ (ಸಂಕಟಗಳು) ನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಕೊನೆಯ ಭೋಜನದ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳು, ಉದ್ಯಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಕಟ, ಕಂಬದ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊಡೆಯುವುದು, ಮುಳ್ಳುಗಳಿಂದ ಕಿರೀಟಧಾರಣೆ, “ಎಕ್ಸೆ ಹೋಮೋ”, ಪಿಲಾತನ ತೀರ್ಪು, ಶಿಲುಬೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ಶಿಲುಬೆಗೇರಿಸುವಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಧಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ಪ್ಯಾಶನ್ ನಾಟಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಸಮಾರಂಭಗಳನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಬಹಳ ವೈಭವದಿಂದ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು, ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್‌ಗಳ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ (ಈಗ ಹಳೆಯ ಗೋವಾ) ಮೊದಲ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ (ಜೋಸ್ ಪೆರೇರಾ 1995: 9-20).

ಫಾ. ಬಾರ್ಜಿಯಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೊಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವ:

ಫಾ. ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ಪರ್ ಬಾರ್ಜಿಯಸ್ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ ಹೂವುಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮೊಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 8 ರಂದು ತಾಯಿ ಮೇರಿಯ ನೇಟಿವಿಟಿಯ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಂಡ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್ ಹುಡುಗರು ಬಿಳಿ ಟ್ಯೂನಿಕ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಉದ್ದ ಸಾಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹೂವಿನ ಚಾಪ್ಲೆಟ್‌ಗಳಿಂದ ಕಿರೀಟಧಾರಿಯಾಗಿ, ಬಿದಿರಿನ ಹೂವುಗಳ ಬುಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಂಡು “ದೇವತೆಗಳಂತೆ” ಧರಿಸಿ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ಗೆ ಬರಲು ಅವರು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅವರು ಸೇಂಟ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮದರ್ ಮೇರಿಯ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೋಡಿಯಾಗಿ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು, ಅವರ ಪಾದಗಳ ಬಳಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಬುಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಖಾಲಿ ಮಾಡಿ, ಮತ್ತು “ಓ ಗ್ಲೋರಿಯೊಸಾ ವರ್ಜಿನಮ್” ಹಾಡುತ್ತಾ ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖವು ಡಾಕ್ಯುಮೆಂಟಾ ಇಂಡಿಕಾ ಸಂಪುಟಗಳು 70-72 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾದ ಜೀಸಸ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯ ಜನರಲ್‌ಗೆ ಬರೆದ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಪತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೂವುಗಳನ್ನು ತರುವ ಈ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯನ್ನು ಫಾ. ಎರವಲು ಪಡೆದರು. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಗಣೇಶ ಚತುರ್ಥಿ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಬಾರ್ಜಿಯಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಲಾದ ಕ್ಯಾಥೋಲಿಕ್ ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡವರು.

ಗಣೇಶ ಹಬ್ಬ ಮತ್ತು ಮೋಂಟಿ ಹಬ್ಬ:

ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕ್ಯಾಲೆಂಡರ್ ಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಶ್ರಾವಣ ಮಾಸದ ನಂತರ, ಭಾದ್ರಪದ ಮಾಸ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (ಗ್ರೆಗೋರಿಯನ್ ಕ್ಯಾಲೆಂಡರ್‌ನ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್/ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್‌ಗೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ). ಭಾದ್ರಪದ ಮಾಸದ ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ದಿನದಂದು, ಕೊಂಕ್ನಿ ಚಾವೋಟ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಗಣೇಶ ಚತುರ್ಥಿಯನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಭಾರತದ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದೂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಮುಖ, ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೀತಿಪಾತ್ರವಾದ ಹಬ್ಬವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಹಬ್ಬವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ದೂರ ಮತ್ತು ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಗಣೇಶ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲು ತಮ್ಮ ಪೂರ್ವಜರ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಬ್ಬದ ಮೊದಲು, ಮನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವಚ್ಛಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಬಣ್ಣ ಬಳಿಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಚಾವೋಟ್‌ನ ಮೊದಲ ದಿನದಂದು, ಗಣೇಶನ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಪೂರ್ವಜರ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಬ್ಬವು 1½, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 ದಿನಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ವೈಭವದಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ತಾಜಾ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳು, ಹೂವುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಿಹಿತಿಂಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ತರಕಾರಿ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಗಣೇಶನಿಗೆ ತಯಾರಿಸಲಾದ ಅಥವಾ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಲಾದ ಯಾವುದೇ ವಸ್ತುವು ಬೆಸ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಅಂದರೆ, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ. ಸುಗ್ಗಿಯ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು (ನೋವ್ಯಾಚಿ ಪೊಂ’ಛೋಮ್’) ಮರುದಿನ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಕೊಯ್ಲು ಮಾಡಿದ ಭತ್ತದ ಜೋಳವನ್ನು ಹೊಲಗಳಿಂದ ಮನೆಗೆ ತಂದು ಪೂಜಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಧಾನ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ದಿನದ ಊಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೋಳವನ್ನು ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿ ಬಿದಿರಿನ ಕೋಲುಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಕಾಡಿನ ಹೂವುಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಬಾಗಿಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಜೋಡಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂದಿನ ವರ್ಷ ಹೊಸ ಜೋಳವನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ತೆಗೆದುಹಾಕಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ವರ್ಷವಿಡೀ ಮನೆ ಅಕ್ಕಿಯಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ. ಬಾಳೆ ಎಲೆಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಇತರ ಎಲೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಶುದ್ಧ ಸಸ್ಯಾಹಾರಿ ಊಟಗಳನ್ನು ಬಡಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಿಹಿ ತಿನಿಸುಗಳನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮಾಂಸಾಹಾರಿ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುನಿಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

16 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋವಾದ ಹಳೆಯ ವಿಜಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೇರಿಯ ಜನನದ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 8 ರಂದು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಇದನ್ನು ಮೊಂಟಿ ಸಾಯ್ಬಿನ್ನಿಚೆಮ್ ಹಬ್ಬ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಚೋವೊಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೊಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವವು ದಿನಾಂಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವು ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಬಹಳ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಫಾದರ್ ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ಪರ್ ಬಾರ್ಜಿಯಸ್ ಹಿಂದೂಗಳು ಗಣೇಶನಿಗೆ ತಾಜಾ ಹೂವುಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸುವ, ಈಗ ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ಧರ್ಮದ ಮಾತೃ ಮೇರಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸುವ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಹರಡಿದ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಮಿಷನರಿಗಳು, ಹಿಂದೂಗಳ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಬೇರುಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅಥವಾ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಕಾಳಜಿ ವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಮೊಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವವು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಪುರಾವೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಗಣೇಶ ಚತುರ್ಥಿಯ ಕೆಲವು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಮೊಂಟಿ ಉತ್ಸವದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲಿಸುತ್ತವೆ ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಗೋವಾದಿಂದ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದ ಕೊಂಕ್ನಿಗಳು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಒಂಬತ್ತು ದಿನಗಳ ನೊವೆನಾಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮೇರಿಯ ನೇಟಿವಿಟಿಯ ಹಬ್ಬದ ದಿನದಂದು, ಅವರು ಕ್ಯಾಥೋಲಿಕ್ ಹುಡುಗರು ಮಾತೃ ಮೇರಿಯನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸಲು ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಮೌಂಟ್ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ಗೆ ಹೂವುಗಳನ್ನು ತರುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು. ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ತಾಜಾ ಹೂವುಗಳನ್ನು ತರಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಮಯದೊಳಗೆ ಈ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವು ಹಳೆಯ ವಿಜಯದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಯಾಥೋಲಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವಾಯಿತು. ಆ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋವಾದ ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಮತಾಂತರಗೊಂಡ ಕ್ಯಾಥೋಲಿಕರು ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 8 ರಂದು ಸಸ್ಯಾಹಾರಿ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸ್ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದಾಗಿ, ಈ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಯಿತು. ಈಗ ಒಂಬತ್ತು ದಿನಗಳ ನವರಾತ್ರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹಬ್ಬದ ಆಚರಣೆಗಾಗಿ, ಗೋವಾದ ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೂವುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಿಂಪಡಿಸುವ ಬದಲು, ಚರ್ಚ್‌ಗೆ ಬರುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರೂ ಮಾತೆ ಮೇರಿಯ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯ ಪಾದಗಳ ಬಳಿ ಹೂವನ್ನು ಇಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆಧುನಿಕ ಗೋವಾ:

(ಮಿಂಗಿಲಿ ಲೆಕ್ಕ) (ಹಿಂದೂಗಳು ಗಣೇಶ ಹಬ್ಬಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುವಂತೆ). “ವೋರ್ನ್” ಅಥವಾ “ಪಾಯ್ಸ್” ಎಂಬ ಸಿಹಿ ಖಾದ್ಯವನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕ್ಯಾಥೋಲಿಕ್ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳು ಈ ದಿನದಂದು ಕಟ್ಟುನಿಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಸಸ್ಯಾಹಾರಿ ಊಟವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ, ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಉತ್ತರ ಭಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಸ್ಯಾಹಾರಿ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕ್ಯಾಥೋಲಿಕರು ಉತ್ತಮ ಜಾತಿಯ ತಾಜಾ ಮೀನಿನ ಖಾದ್ಯವನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದು ಅವರ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಆಹಾರವಾದ ಅನ್ನ ಮತ್ತು ಮೀನಿನ ಕರಿಯ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಾಗಿರಬಹುದು. ತಾಜಾ ಮೀನು ಲಭ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಒಣ ಸೀಗಡಿಗಳ ಕರಿಯನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ಮಾಂಸ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಮದ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬಡಿಸಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕೆಲವು ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಪವಿತ್ರ ಬತ್ತದ ಸಿಪ್ಪೆ ಸುಲಿದು ಹಾಲಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬೆರೆಸಿ, ಬಲಿಪೀಠದ ಮುಂದೆ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ನಂತರ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಬಡಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇತರ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಿಪ್ಪೆ ಸುಲಿದ ಜೋಳವನ್ನು ಸಿಹಿ ಖಾದ್ಯ “ವೋರ್ನ್” ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಥವಾ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಉಳಿದ ಬತ್ತವನ್ನು ಬಲಿಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ದಿನ ಜನರು ಬಾಳೆ ಎಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಊಟವನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಬ್ಬಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾಜರಾಗಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದವರಿಗೆ, ಪವಿತ್ರ ಬತ್ತದ ಕೆಲವು ಕಾಳುಗಳನ್ನು ಅಂಚೆ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. (ನಾನು 1971 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್‌ಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಸಮಯದಿಂದ 2004 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಮರಣದವರೆಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಪೋಷಕರು ಅದನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ನಿಷ್ಠೆಯಿಂದ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.) ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳು ಸ್ಥಳಗಳು, ಸಮಯಗಳು, ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಬದಲಾಗಿವೆ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ, ಊಟಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬಾಳೆ ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಟ್ಟೆಗಳಿಂದ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 8 ರ ನಂತರ ಭಾನುವಾರದಂದು ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಭಾರತದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಯುಎಸ್ಎ, ಕೆನಡಾ, ಆಸ್ಟ್ರೇಲಿಯಾ, ನ್ಯೂಜಿಲೆಂಡ್ ಮತ್ತು ಜಪಾನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸಹ, ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ನಿಗಳು ಈಗ ಮೋಂಟಿ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಮಾಂಸಾಹಾರಿ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹ!!!. ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ, ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಕಳೆದುಹೋಗಿದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಈ ಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮೂಲದ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ, ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ, ಹಬ್ಬದ ತಿರುಳು, ಅಂದರೆ, ಮಾತೆ ಮೇರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೂವುಗಳಿಂದ ಗೌರವಿಸುವುದು ಗೋವಾ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರೆಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಉಳಿದಿದೆ.

ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಮೌಂಟ್‌ಗೆ ಮೀಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ಎರಡು ಚರ್ಚುಗಳು ಇದ್ದವು. ಒಂದು ಓಲ್ಡ್ ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು 1590 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಂಚಿನಿಮ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್‌ಗಳು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ, ಚಿಂಚಿನಿಮ್ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಅನ್ನು ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಹೋಪ್‌ಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ನಿರ್ಧಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ. ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಮೌಂಟ್‌ಗೆ ಮೀಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ಎಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಮಂದಿರಗಳಿವೆ ಎಂದು ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ. ಗೋವಾದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕರು ಬಹುಸಂಖ್ಯಾತರಾಗಿರುವ ಕಾರವಾರ, ಉಡುಪಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಿಂಧುದುರ್ಗ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿಗೆ ಮೀಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ಅನೇಕ ಚರ್ಚುಗಳಿವೆ. ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯಕರವಾಗಿ, ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವಂತೆ, ಈ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್‌ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ಒಂದು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಕೂಡ ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಮೌಂಟ್‌ಗೆ ಮೀಸಲಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆ? ಇದು ನನಗೆ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ರಹಸ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೊಂಟಿ ಸೇಬಿನ್ (ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಮೌಂಟ್) ಮೂಲತಃ ಗೋವಾದ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಪದವಾಗಿದೆ. ದುರದೃಷ್ಟವಶಾತ್, ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ, ದಿನದಿಂದ ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊಂಟಿ ಸಾಯ್ಬಿಣ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೊಂಟಿ ಸೇಬಿನ್ನಿಚೆಮ್ ಫೆಸ್ಟ್ ಪದಗಳು ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂಲತಃ ತಮಿಳುನಾಡಿನಿಂದ ಬಂದ ವೈಲಂಕನ್ಣಿ ಸಾಯ್ಬಿಣ್ ಹೆಸರು ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಮಾತೃ ಮೇರಿಯನ್ನು ನೂರಾರು ಹೆಸರುಗಳಿಂದ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ನಿಜ, ಆದರೆ ಗೋವಾ ಮೂಲದ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯಗೊಳಿಸಬೇಕು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಡಯೋಸಿಸನ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಯಕತ್ವ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಂಭವನೀಯ ಕಾರಣವೆಂದರೆ, ಗೋವಾದ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕರಿಗೆ, “ಬೇಲಿಯ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಲ್ಲು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಹಸಿರಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ”!

Mônti Fest: Feast of The Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary: The Cultural Identity of Konknni Catholics. Its Origin and Development

On the 08th  September, Catholics and Orthodox Churches celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary all over the world. In Goa, in the sixteenth century this feast was called Mônti Fest. Now unfortunately, this name is forgotten in Goa and it is merely called the Feast of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary. In Sindhudurg Diocese it is now known as the Feast of the Our Lady of  Vailankanni. 

However, today Mônti Fest is the most popular and important cultural and family feast among the Konknni Catholics of Karnataka. It must be noted that the 98 to 99% of Konknni speaking Catholics and Hindus of Karnataka, are originally from Goa. They migrated from Goa to Coastal Karnataka from the 16th century onwards for various reasons such as  

1. Famine of 1553, 1630-1631 (Teotonio R. de Souza 2009: 30; Pius F. Pinto 1999a:24; B.S. Shastry 2000:257). 

2. Declining food production (B.S. Shastry 2000:257). 

3. Economic hardships. Conversion deprived converts of much of their former status. The Portuguese noblemen and ministers showed greater respect to Hindus than to Christians (Teotonio R. de Souza 2009:196). 

4. Conversions also brought humiliation and ill-treatment on converts and they were treated as captives (Machado A.2015:106). Hence migration was one of the options. 

5. Epidemic in 1543, 1545, 1570, 1583-88, 1618-19, and 1635 (Pius F. Pinto 1999a:23; B.S. Shastry 2000:257). 

6. Invasion by the Marathas in 1667, 1683, 1739 (Teotonio R. de Souza 2009:30; Machado A.2015:102-104; Pius F. Pinto 1999b:18). 

7. Adil Shah of Vijayapura (formerly known as Bijapur) invaded Bardes and Salcette in 1570 and between 1654-1659 (Teotonio R. de Souza 2009:30; Pius F. Pinto 1999b:17; Alan Machado 2015:102). 

8. Two severe cyclones accompanied by earthquakes in April 1649 and in July 1654 (Teotonio R. de Souza 2009:30). 

9. Inquisition introduced in 1560 (B.S. Shastry 2000:257) and it was abolished only in 1812. It was intolerant in its religious attitude, it wanted to impose the Portuguese type of Christianity on the new converts of Goa by force, it wanted to eliminate all the traces of local culture. Their names, food habits, social customs, and even dress were made to conform to the European Christian standards. It created a sense of fear and insecurity. Thus, to escape from this tyranny migration was the only option (Pius F. Pinto 1999b:14-17).  

10. Imposition of Portuguese language and culture upon all the natives and suppress their native language through the decree of the 27th June 1684 (Teotonio R. de Souza 2009:67; Pius F. Pinto 1999a:24). 

11. Excessive taxation by the Portuguese (Pius F. Pinto, 1999a:15-16; Alan Machado 2015:99). 

12. The Portuguese Christians were not fully prepared to accept the native Christians as social and cultural equals. They practised social discrimination as long as the native Christians tried to maintain a separate identity through their language, customs, and manners (Pius F. Pinto 1999b:16-17). 

13. Population problem in Goa (Pius F. Pinto 1999:18). 

14. Nayaka Kings of Keladi welcomed from Goa, cultivators, and skilled labourers such as carpenters, fishermen, masons, potters, goldsmiths, businessmen, etc (Pius F. Pinto 1999:19-20); the policy of religious liberalism of the Nayaka Kings provided incentives to migrate. 

Agricultural land was scarce in Goa and availability of fertile lands along the Coastal Karnataka was easy. Keladi kingdom had scarcity of skilled labourers. This void was filled by the migrant Christians (Pius F. Pinto 1999:18). 

15. The Konknni speaking Christian migrants did not come to the Keladi kingdom with empty hands. They had cash at their disposal, which they invested in Keladi territory. Therefore, Nayaks of Keladi whole-heartedly welcomed Christians from Goa to their kingdom. (Pius F. Pinto 1999:19). 

16. In Goa there was scarcity of rice. The local food production was not sufficient for more than four months in a year. Kanara’s rice kept Goa alive (Alan Machado 2015:105). This situation too caused migration to Karnataka. 

17. The Christian farming migrants with their qualities of discipline, hard work, honesty, and skill contributed much to the prosperity of Keladi kingdom (Pius F. Pinto 1999:19). 

18. The Keladi kings knew that it was politically profitable to invite the Christians from Goa to their kingdom because these Christians knew the strengths and weaknesses of the Portuguese (Pius F. Pinto 1999:20). 

19. For the sake of  business a good number of Konknni Brahmin families from Goa migrated to Cochin (Keni 2008:275). 

20. In the 1560s, a number of influential Brahmins who chose to resist coercive conversion laws were expelled from Goa ( Machado 2022:295). A good number of families from Goa who didn’t  want to be converted migrated to neighbouring area of Karnataka and Maharashtra. 

The Konknni speaking Hindus migrated from Goa to Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala as early as the 10th century (Alan Machado 2015:97). The Catholic Konknnis (Konknni speakers) who migrated from Goa took this Mônti Fest from Goa along with them to Coastal Karnataka. Now these Konknni Catholic settlers of Coastal Karnataka are spread out in India and all over the world and they celebrate Mônti Fest with great enthusiasm, wherever they have settled.  

Konknni as the cultural identity of Konknnis: 

Unfortunately, and wrongly, Konknnis of Coastal Karnataka are labelled as “Mangaloreans”. Mangaluru is the district headquarters of Dakshina Kannada district.  It is unfair to label Konknnis who live in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Mysore, Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Dharwad, Belgavi, Kodagu, Hassan, and elsewhere, who have nothing to do with the city of Mangaluru, to be clubbed together as “Mangaloreans”. Moreover, Mangaloreans, Goans are regional identities and not the cultural entities. In India, the cultural identity is primarily based on the language affinity. For example, Gujarati speakers are known as Gujaratis, Sindhi speakers as Sindhis, irrespective of their place of birth or dwelling. In this logical sense, all Konknni speaking persons and those who belong to Konknni speaking lineage to be rightly called as KONKNNIS.  

Goa Archdiocese and Mônti Fest: 

Mônti Fest was fostered in Coastal Karnataka by priests from Goa who were serving in Coastal Karnataka till 1838. In 1838 Dakshina Kannada district – Mangaluru (earlier known as Mangalore) as its headquarters – of Coastal Karnataka was separated from the jurisdiction of Goa Archdiocese. Similarly, on the 19th September 1953 Uttara Kannada district (Karwar as its headquarters) and Belgavi district were separated from the jurisdiction of Goa Archdiocese and Belgavi Diocese was erected. Irrespective of these developments, Mônti Fest continued in Coastal Karnataka the most popular feast. Now let us see how Mônti Fest took its origin in Goa. 

The arrival of the Portuguese: 

On the 25th November 1510, in the second attempt the commander of Portuguese army Afonso de Albuquerque (1453-1515) conquered Tiswadi from Adil Shah of Bijapur (now Vijayapura). Soon after the conquest he ordered a chapel to be built in honour of Our Lady to thank her for his escape from Kamaran island in the Red Sea. Thus in between 1510 -1519, Capela de Nossa Senhora do Monte (The chapel of Our Lady of Mount) was built on the hillock at the City of Goa (now known as Old Goa). He died on the16th December 1515. According to his will he was buried in that chapel. In 1566, his body was moved to Nossa Senhora da Graça church in Lisbon. The chapel of Our Lady of Mount was probably reconstructed twice.  It had a dimension of a church and in fact it was a parish when the City of Goa was thickly populated. Since the chapel was on the mount and in Portuguese ‘Monte’ means mount, that chapel was called in Konknni “Mônti Saybinničhem Køpel” (the Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount). It had three altars. The main altar was dedicated to Our Lady of the Mount. The side altars were dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua and to St. Anthony, the Hermit. Due to this chapel, the universally celebrated Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady on the 8th September, in Goa came to be known as Mônti Saybinničhem Fest or Mônti Fest. Daily Mass was celebrated when it was a parish in the 16th century. The feast is now celebrated in this chapel on Sunday after the 8th September.  Besides, on the 8th of every month, an evening Mass was celebrated. I do not know whether this practice still continues or not. Until 2001, this chapel was in ruins. A restoration project was then planned and funded by the Fundação Oriente in association with the Goa government. This restored chapel still exists in Old Goa and it has become famous to host the much-acclaimed Monte Music Festival to integrate the Indian and Western forms of classical music. It attracts both music performers and lovers from various countries. Besides, this chapel has been the backdrop for many Bollywood films. 

The arrival of the Jesuits: 

In 1543, the Portuguese conquered the Bardes and Salcete regions from Adil Shah. These two regions with Tiswadi came to be known as Velhas Conquistas (Old Conquest). On the 6th May 1542, Francis Xavier, the first Jesuit priest of the Society of Jesus arrived in the City of Goa. He was followed by many other Jesuits. In 1552, Fr. Gaspar Barzeus (1515-1553), a Jesuit priest of Dutch origin came to Goa. He was a good preacher and a talented person. Francis Xavier appointed him as the Rector of St. Paul College at City of Goa and the Vice-Provincial of the East Province of the Society of Jesus. Fr. Gaspar died in Goa on the 18th October 1553. When he was alive, he introduced to teach music in St. Paul College. He was responsible for introducing the cultural phenomena for the creation of a Latin Indian culture, like plainchant, polyphony, western musical instruments (like organ, piano, trumpet, guitar, violin, viola, harp, shawm, flute, vihuela, lute, harpsichord, and percussion drum), as well as Western musical forms like oratorio, cantata, villancico, and even opera. He made liturgy lively by initiating the custom of the sung Mass and of chants accompanied by the organ, as well as by instituting the post of choir master (mestre capela). Drama and music were conjoined most effectively in the Passos (sufferings). Passion plays enacted with the aid of images, including scenes from the Last supper, the agony in the garden, the scourging at the pillar, the crowning with thorns, the “Ecce Homo”, the judgement of Pilate, the carrying of the cross, the crucifixion and the entombment. These ceremonies first performed with great pomp, in the first monumental Church of St. Paul College (now Old Goa), of the Jesuits (José Pereira 1995: 9-20). 

Fr. Barzeus and Mônti Fest: 

The Mônti Fest with flowers, introduced by Fr. Gaspar Barzeus was held in commemoration of the Nativity of Mother Mary on the 8th September. He asked the newly converted Catholic boys to come to the church in two long rows in white tunics and crowned with chaplets of flowers, dressed as “angels” carrying bamboo baskets of flowers. They would walk in procession, a pair at a time, to the statue of Mother Mary in the Jesuit church of St. Paul College, empty their baskets at her feet, and return to their places, singing “O Gloriosa Virginum” The reference to this custom is found in the Jesuit letters written to the General of the Society of Jesus published in Documenta Indica Vols 70-72. This custom of bringing flowers was borrowed by Fr. Barzeus from the local Ganesh Chaturthi festival and adapted for the newly introduced Catholic religion.  

Ganesh Festival and Mônti Fest: 

According to the Indian calendar, after the Shravan month, Bhadrapada month starts (corresponds to August/ September of the Gregorian calendar). On the fourth day of Bhadrapada month, Ganesh Chaturthi in Konknni Chøvøt is celebrated. It is the most important, popular, and loved festival along the Western Coast of India among the Hindus. Since it is a family festival, persons who are residing far and near come to their ancestral house to celebrate Ganesh festival. Before the festival, houses are cleaned, painted, and decorated. On the first day of Chøvøt, the idol of Ganesh is normally installed in the ancestral family house. The festival lasts for 1½, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 days. It is celebrated with great splendour. During the festival, every day fresh local fruits, flowers, and sweets are offered. Local vegetable dishes are prepared. Anything prepared or offered to Ganesh is in odd numbers, namely, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and so on. The Harvest Festival (Nøvyačhi Pøn’čhøm’) is celebrated the next day. Newly harvested paddy corn is brought home from fields and is worshipped. A few grains are put in the day’s meal. The corn is artistically tied to bamboo sticks decorated with jungle flowers. This is fitted above the main door and removed in the next year after procuring new corn, with the belief that the house will be full of rice throughout the year. Pure vegetarian meals are served on banana leaves or other leaves. Sweet dishes are prepared. During the festival, non-vegetarian dishes and liquor are strictly forbidden.  

In the Old conquest of Goa in the 16th century, the Feast of the Nativity of Mary was celebrated on the 8th September and it was called Mônti Saybinničhem Fest. Chøvøt and Mônti Fest come very close to each other in terms of date and certain customs. Fr. Gaspar Barzeus adapted the existing local tradition of Hindus offering fresh flowers to Ganesh, now to Mother Mary of Christianity.  The Jesuit missionaries who spread Christianity in Goa, took care to retain or adapt local cultural roots of Hindus. Mônti Fest is the best proof of this.  Some of the cultural traits of Ganesh Chaturthi are reflected in Mônti Fest as it is celebrated by Konknnis who migrated from Goa to Coastal Maharashtra and Coastal Karnataka. During the nine days of novenas and Feast Day of the Nativity of Mary, he encouraged the Catholic boys to bring flowers to honour Mother Mary, to the Church of Our Lady of Mount. Everyday fresh flowers were brought. Within no time this tradition became very popular among Catholics in every church of Old Conquest. In those days the newly converted Catholics of Goa were eating only vegetarian food on the 8th September. Gradually due to the Portuguese influence, this custom disappeared. Now for the nine days of novenas and feast, sprinkling of flowers is replaced in a number of parishes of Goa, by placing a flower at the feet of the statue of Mother Mary by everyone who comes to the church.  

The Feast of Nativity of Lady in Modern Goa: 

In Goa now Mônti Fest is known as “Saybinničhya Zølmačhi Pørøb”, or “Fulančhem Fest”, or the Feast of Our Lady of Vailankanni. The Catholics of Goa do not combine the Harvest Festival known as “Kønnsančhem Fest” with the Mônti Fest. It is celebrated in the month of August. Raia village of Salcete has the first privilege of celebrating it on the 5th August. In Salcete, mostly it is celebrated on the 15th August. In Bardes, Aldona and Salvador do Mundo are the first to celebrate the Harvest Feast on the 06th August. In Tiswadi, this feast is celebrated mostly on the 24th August. However, the village of Taleigão has the privilege over the others for this festival. It starts on the 21st and ends on the 24th of August.  The priest blesses the new paddy crop and harvests a few sheaves of corn. In Goa this feast among Catholics is celebrated by the Gaunkars (original settlers) only in rotation. The Gaunkar who celebrates the feast in a particular year, has to offer a lavish lunch to other Gaunkars. The other parishioners have no role in it.  Thus unfortunately, the Harvest Feast among the Catholics in Goa is limited only to Gaunkars and not to the entire parish community 

Coastal Karnataka and Mônti Fest: 

In Coastal Karnataka Mônti Fest combined with Nøvem (the Harvest Festival) is celebrated by all Catholics with great enthusiasm and joy in their respective parishes. It is a family feast, which unites its members. Therefore, as far as possible, family members who are far away prefer to come to their family for the celebration of this feast. This custom too has its origin in Ganesh Festival. There is a misconception in Karnataka that Fr. Joaquim Miranda, a diocesan priest of Goa Archdiocese, who was serving at Farangipete, Dakshina Kannada District started the Mônti Fest in Coastal Karnataka. This misconception is far from the real facts. When the ancestors of Konknni speaking Catholics  migrated from Goa to Karnataka, they took cultural traits and adapted them to this feast. Fr. Miranda was a known missionary serving in Dakshina Kannada district must have given the boost to this festival by integrating the local customs and rituals. I do not know when exactly, the Konknni Catholics of Coastal Karnataka combined the feast of the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary with the harvest feast.  Definitely, Fr. Joaquim Miranda is not the originator of Mônti Fest in Karnataka but it’s promoter.  

Maria Bambina Statue and Mônti Fest: 

In the 19th century, Sister of Charity of St. Bartholomea Capitanio and St. Vincenza Gerosa Congregation from Italy, who came to Mangaluru to establish their convents brought the statue of Maria Bambina to Mangaluru. The multiple production of this statue was done by Simon and company and St Joseph Workshop at Mangaluru. It is a beautiful statue of baby Mary in a sleeping posture in a cradle.  

During the novena days, children search for flowers everywhere. As a boy, I myself after school, in the evening have gone 2 to 3 kilometres in search of flowers, especially golden trumpets, hibiscus, plumeria, marigold, periwinkle, tiger claw, balsam, etc. When these flowers were not available my mother would ask us to take wild sesame flowers and pumpkin flowers. In her simple faith, mother would tell us that Mother Mary accepts all flowers brought to her with faith and love. We children took those flowers with great reluctance because other children would laugh at us. In the morning especially children with their parents came to the church for Novena Mass with flowers arranged artistically in a basket or a plate.  After the Mass, children came in a procession singing the most popular song of Mother Mary “Søkkødd Sangata mellyam” and laid one main flower at the feet of Baby Mary’s statue called Maria Bambina. This hymn is a translation of the English hymn “Let us Mingle Together”, done first at Mangaluru. From there this hymn spread to Mumbai and Goa. In Goa, it changed as “Søgllim Sangata Mell-ia” replacing a few original words with the local Konknni words. After laying a flower, all the children stood in a horseshoe shape around the Baby Mary’s statue and sang the song “Møriyêk Hôgôllxiyam” and sprinkled three times flowers around the statue. Afterwards, the priest incensed the statue and the novena prayer was said. Finally, the priest gave a blessing and the novena of the day ended by singing the hymn of Mother Mary and kissing the statue. This novena ritual continued for nine days. More or less with a little variation the same custom continues for nine days of novenas. 

Feast Day Celebration: 

On the feast day the 8th September, sheaves of new corn are kept on a table near the grotto of Mother Mary or in an open place of church compound. People gather there and children are ready with their flower baskets. The priest then blesses the new corn and it is carried in procession to the church by singing the hymns of Our Lady. Children sprinkle flowers during the procession. Then, Feast Day Mass is celebrated. After the Mass, each family is given one or two sheaves of blessed corn. People carry it to their homes. In some parishes sugarcane or sweet dish “vorn” is served to everyone, especially to children by the sponsors.  On the feast day, various types of vegetable dishes of local vegetables are prepared in odd numbers, namely, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, … (as it is done for Ganesh Festival by the Hindus). A sweet dish called “vorn” or “pays” is prepared. Most of the Catholic families strictly eat only vegetarian meals on this day. However, in the northern part of Udupi district and Uttara Kannada, Catholics besides vegetarian dishes do prepare fish curry of fresh fish. This could be due to their normal staple food everyday of rice and fish curry. If fresh fish is not available, then the curry of dry prawns is prepared. No meat dishes or alcohol is served on this feast. In some places, the blessed corn is peeled and mixed with milk, served to family members after saying a prayer in front of the altar. In other places, the peeled corn is put either in the sweet dish “vorn” or in all dishes. The remaining corn is placed on the altar. That day people eat their lunch on a banana leaf. To those who could not attend the feast at home, a few grains of blessed corn is sent to them by post. My parents sent it to me faithfully from the time I joined the Jesuits in 1971 till their death in 2004. The customs of this festival have changed according to the locations, times, circumstances, and local customs. For example, banana leaves for meals are replaced by plates. In cities, the feast is celebrated on Sunday after the 8th September.  Mônti Fest is now celebrated by the Catholic Konknnis of Karnataka in all parts of India and abroad, even in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan in their own way, even including the non-vegetarian dishes!!!  In Goa, the cultural importance of this festival is totally lost, but this feast is still preserved among the Konknni Catholics of Karnataka origin, especially in Coastal Karnataka. However, the core of the feast, namely, honouring Mother Mary with flowers has still remained both in Goa and elsewhere.  

In Goa there were two churches dedicated to Our Lady of Mount. One at Old Goa and the other built by the Jesuits in 1590 at Chinchinim. Later, Chinchinim church was dedicated to Our Lady of Hope. The reason for this decision is not known to me.  I do not know how many chapels in Goa are there dedicated to Our Lady of Mount. Outside Goa many churches are dedicated to Our Lady in Karwar, Udupi, Mangaluru, Belgavi and Sindhudurg dioceses where Konknni Catholics are in majority. Surprisingly, as far as I know, in these dioceses not a single parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Mount. Why? It is a great mystery for me. Mônti Saybinn (Our Lady of Mount) is originally a native Konknni word of Goa. Unfortunately, in Goa, day by day Mônti Saybinn and Mônti Saybinničhem Fest terms are dwindling and Vailankanni Saybinn name, which was originally from Tamil Nadu is getting prominence among the Catholics. It is true that Mother Mary is called by hundreds of names, but a name of Goan origin should have been maintained and popularized. Here the role and leadership of the diocesan clergy is important. This is not happening. The probable reason could be, for the Catholics of Goa, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”!  

This festival is celebrated with great pomp in Harihar, Karnataka

ಕುಂದಾಪುರ ತುಳಸಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಮಂದಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಜನ್ಮಾಷ್ಟಮಿ ಆಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಭಕ್ತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಭ್ರಮದಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು, ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ವೇದಮೂರ್ತಿ ವಿದ್ವಾನ್ ಮಂಜುನಾಥ್ ಭಟ್ಟರು ಶಾಲಾ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾದ ಸಿ .ಎ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಯ್ ಶ್ಯಾನಭಾಗ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಶಾಲಾ ಮುಖ್ಯೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯನಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ರೇಷ್ಮಾ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು. ಗಣ್ಯರು ದೀಪ ಬೆಳಗಿಸಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಪುಷ್ಪಾರ್ಚನೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿ, ತೊಟ್ಟಿಲು ತೂಗುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಂದ ಭಜನೆ ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಶಾಲಾ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರು ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಜನ್ಮಾಷ್ಟಮಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.
ಪ್ರೀ ಕೆ.ಜಿ ಯಿಂದ ಎರಡನೇ ತರಗತಿಯವರೆಗಿನ ಪುಟಾಣಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಧೆಯ ವೇಷಧರಿಸಿ ಎಲ್ಲರದ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದರು. ವೇಷಧಾರಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು, ಶಾಲಾ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರು ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಖ್ಯೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯನಿಯವರು ನೆನಪಿನ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ವಿತರಿಸಿದರು. ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿ ವೇದಮೂರ್ತಿ ವಿದ್ವಾನ್ ಮಂಜುನಾಥ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಶಾಲಾ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾದ ಸಿ .ಎ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಯ್ ಶಾನ್ ಭಾಗ್ ಅವರು ಸ್ಮರಣಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಿದರು.
ನಂತರ ಶಾಲಾ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಂದ ವಿವಿಧ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ನೃತ್ಯ, ಶ್ಲೋಕ ,ಕೊಳಲು ವಾದನ ಹಾಗೂ ಭಜನೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಮನರಂಜಿಸಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯನ್ನು ಒಂಭತ್ತನೇ ತರಗತಿಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯರಾದ ಮಾನ್ವಿ ಆಚಾರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಮನಸ್ವಿ ಇವರು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಏಳನೇ ತರಗತಿಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು. ಎಂಟನೇ ತರಗತಿಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯಾದ ಅನ್ವಿತ ಇವರು ಧನ್ಯವಾದವನ್ನು ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪೋಷಕರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪುಟಾಣಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಧೆಯರ ವೇಷ ಧರಿಸಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು. ಪೋಷಕರ ಸಹಭಾಗಿತ್ವದಿಂದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಕಳೆಗಟ್ಟಿತು. ಭಕ್ತಿ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯ ಅನಾವರಣದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಜನ್ಮಾಷ್ಟಮಿ ಆಚರಣೆ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ನೆರವೇರಿತು.

ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 5, 2026: ಝೀ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಸರೆಗಮಪ ಲಿಟಲ್ ಚಾಂಪ್ಸ್ 2026 ರಿಯಾಲಿಟಿ ಶೋನ ವಿಜೇತ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಗೋನ್ಝಾಗ ಶಾಲೆಯ 8ನೇ ತರಗತಿಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಎ. ಜೆ. ಅವರನ್ನು ಶನಿವಾರ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಶಾಲೆಯ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ವಂ. ಫಾ. ರೋಹನ್ ಡಿ’ಅಲ್ಮೇಡಾ ಎಸ್.ಜೆ., ಉಪಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು ಹಾಗೂ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಯೋಜಕರು ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದರು. ಚೆಂಡೆ ವಾದ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಡೆದ ಪಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಸ್ವಾಗತ ನೀಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲ್ಯದಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾದ ಅವರ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪಯಣವನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿರುವ ವಿಶೇಷ ವಿಡಿಯೋವನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್, ತಮ್ಮ ನಿರಂತರ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ, ರಿಯಾಲಿಟಿ ಶೋನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಲು ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಹಾಜರಾತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಕಾರ ನೀಡಿದ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಅವರು ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿದರು.

ತಮ್ಮ ಗಾಯನ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಶಾಲೆಯು ಮೊದಲನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಗುರುತಿಸಿ, ವಿವಿಧ ಶಾಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡಲು ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಲು ಅವಕಾಶ ನೀಡಿತ್ತು ಎಂದು ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿವೆ ಎಂದರು.

ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಕರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಖ್ಯಾತ ಗಾಯಕಿ ಇಂದು ನಾಗರಾಜ್ ಅವರು ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತ, ವಿನಯಶೀಲ ಹಾಗೂ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಎಂದು ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಿದರು. ನೀಡಿದ ತಿದ್ದುಪಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುವ ಗುಣ, ಸೂಚನೆಯಂತೆ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಮನೋಭಾವ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಧೇಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಅವರು ಪ್ರಶಂಸಿಸಿದರು. ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ರಿಯಾಲಿಟಿ ಶೋನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ಗೆಲ್ಲಲು ಶಾಲೆಯ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು ನೀಡಿದ ಬೆಂಬಲ, ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಹಾಜರಾತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯವು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ಶ್ರೀ ಜಯರಾಮ್ ಎ. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಗನ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು ಹಾಗೂ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೆ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಮಗನ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾದ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುವಂತಹ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿರುವುದು ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರ ಅದೃಷ್ಟ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ನಂತರ ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಸಭಿಕರಿಗಾಗಿ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಹಾಡೊಂದನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿ, ಪೋಷಕರು, ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಂದ ಭರ್ಜರಿ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕರತಾಡನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು.

ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸಿದ ವಂ. ಫಾ.ರೋಹನ್ ಡಿ’ಅಲ್ಮೇಡಾ ಎಸ್.ಜೆ. ಅವರು ಅವರ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳಿಗೆ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸಿದರು. ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗೀತ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲೂ ಸಮತೋಲನ ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಂಡು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗೀತ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು.

ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರ ಈ ಸಾಧನೆಯು  ಗೊನ್ಝಾಗ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಮೊದಲನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾದ ಅವರ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪಯಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಮೈಲಿಗಲ್ಲಾಗಿದೆ. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಸಮಯೋಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿ, ಸೂಕ್ತ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ಅವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದಾಗ ಅವರು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಧನೆಯ ಶಿಖರಕ್ಕೇರಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಶ್ಮಿತ್ ಅವರ ಪಯಣ ಉತ್ತಮ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

Ashmith Felicitated at Gonzaga ; The winner recalls school’s support in his musical journey

Mangaluru, September 5, 2026: Zee Kannada’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs 2026 winner Ashmith A. J., a Class VIII student of St Aloysius Gonzaga School, was felicitated during the school’s Teachers’ Day celebration on Saturday.

Principal Rev. Fr Rohan D’Almeida SJ, Vice Principals and Academic Coordinators felicitated Ashmith, who received a traditional welcome in a palki procession accompanied by chende. A video documenting his musical journey from childhood was also screened on the occasion.

Speaking at the programme, Ashmith thanked the school for its continued support and encouragement. He particularly acknowledged the support of the Principal with regard to attendance and examinations, which enabled him to participate in the reality show while continuing his studies. Ashmith said the school had recognised his singing ability as early as Class I and provided him with opportunities to perform at various school programmes and participate in competitions. These opportunities helped him develop his musical abilities.

Renowned singer and his mentor during the competition, Indu Nagaraj, described Ashmith as a talented, humble and disciplined student. She said he was receptive to corrections, diligently practised according to instructions and was obedient in his approach. She also credited the support extended by the Principal, particularly the flexibility provided for attendance and examinations, as an important factor in enabling Ashmith to participate in and win the reality show.

Ashmith’s father, Mr. Jayaram A., expressed gratitude to the Principal and teachers for identifying and nurturing his son’s talent. He said Ashmith was fortunate to be part of an institution that provided him with opportunities to develop his abilities.

Ashmith later performed a song for the gathering, receiving applause from parents, teachers and students.

Congratulating him, Rev. Fr Rohan D’Almeida SJ wished Ashmith success in his future endeavours and encouraged him to pursue his musical interests while maintaining a balance between academics and music.

Ashmith’s achievement marks another milestone in a musical journey that began at Gonzaga in Class I and highlights the role of timely encouragement and opportunities in nurturing student talent.

ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮನ ಜನ್ಮವು ದೇವರ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮುನ್ನುಡಿಯಾಯಿತು. ದೇವರ ತಾಯಿಯಾಗುವ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಕರೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿದ ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮ, ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ದೇವಭಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳ ಸರಳ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದ ಬಾಲಕಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರ ಜೀವನವು ನಂಬಿಕೆ, ವಿನಯ, ಪಾವಿತ್ರ್ಯ, ವಿಧೇಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ದೇವರ ಚಿತ್ತಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆಯ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮನ ಜನ್ಮಹಬ್ಬವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುವಾಗ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಮಗುವೂ ದೇವರ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ಎಂಬ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಚ್ಚೊತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.
ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಗುವಿನ ಘನತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವದ ಕುರಿತು ಈ ಹಬ್ಬವು ನಮಗೆ ಆಳವಾದ ಸಂದೇಶ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಗುವಿಗೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಸುರಕ್ಷತೆ, ಉತ್ತಮ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಸಮಾನ ಅವಕಾಶ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವ ದೊರಕುವುದು ಕುಟುಂಬದಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಇಡೀ ಸಮಾಜದ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಗುವನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸುವುದು ಮಾನವ ಘನತೆಯನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸುವುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮನ ಜೀವನವು ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳು ಕುಟುಂಬ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಬಲ್ಲರು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮೊಂತಿ ಹಬ್ಬವು ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪದ ದಿನವೂ ಆಗಿದೆ.
ಮೊಂತಿ ಹಬ್ಬವು ಮೂಲತಃ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಹಬ್ಬವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಒಂದಾಗಿ ಸೇರಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುವುದು, ಹಿರಿಯರ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ ಪಡೆಯುವುದು, ಮಕ್ಕಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂತೋಷ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದೇ ಮೇಜಿನ ಸುತ್ತ ಕುಳಿತು ಊಟ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಪರಂಪರೆ. ಆಧುನಿಕ ಜೀವನದ ವೇಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಸಮಯ ನೀಡುವುದು, ಮಾತುಕತೆ ನಡೆಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುವುದು ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೊಂತಿ ಹಬ್ಬವು ಕುಟುಂಬದ ನಿಜವಾದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಪುನಃ ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕುಟುಂಬವೆಂದರೆ ಕೇವಲ ಒಂದೇ ಸೂರಿನಡಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವವರ ಸಮೂಹವಲ್ಲ; ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಗೌರವ, ಕ್ಷಮೆ, ತ್ಯಾಗ, ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹಂಚಿಕೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಒಂದಾಗಿರುವ ಜೀವಂತ ಸಮುದಾಯ. ಇಂದಿನ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂಟಿತನ, ತಲೆಮಾರುಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಅಂತರ, ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಬಿರುಕು ಮತ್ತು ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳ ಕ್ಷೀಣತೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮನ ಕುಟುಂಬ ನಮಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸುಂದರ ಮಾದರಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ದೇವರ ಮೇಲಿನ ನಂಬಿಕೆ, ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ತ್ಯಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಸೇವೆಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿರ್ಮಿತವಾದ ಕುಟುಂಬವೇ ಸಮಾಜದ ನಿಜವಾದ ಬಲವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಮೊಂತಿ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಅಂಶವೆಂದರೆ ಹೊಸ ಬೆಳೆ. ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಮೊದಲ ಫಲಗಳನ್ನು ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯಿಂದ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ, ನಂತರ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಸೇರಿ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಸೇವಿಸುವ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವು ನಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದವೂ ದೇವರ ವರವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಅರಿವನ್ನು ಮೂಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೊಸ ಬೆಳೆಯ ಹಂಚಿಕೆಯು ಕೇವಲ ಆಹಾರ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲ; ಅದು ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ, ಸಹಭಾಗಿತ್ವ, ಸಹೋದರತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಬಾಳ್ವೆಯ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿದೆ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಹೊಸ ಬೆಳೆಯ ಹಬ್ಬವಾದ ಮೊಂತಿ ಹಬ್ಬವು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನೂ ನಮಗೆ ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಭೂಮಿ, ನೀರು, ಗಾಳಿ, ಮಣ್ಣು, ಸಸ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವಜಲ— ಇವು ದೇವರು ನಮಗೆ ವಹಿಸಿರುವ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳು. ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ದುರುಪಯೋಗಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ, ಮುಂದಿನ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ನೈತಿಕ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ. ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವುದು, ನೀರನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವುದು, ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಫಲವತ್ತತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವುದು, ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಬಳಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಮತೋಲನದ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸುವ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳೋಣ.
ಈ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಮೊಂತಿ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಡಿನ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಜನತೆಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಹೃತ್ಪೂರ್ವಕ ಶುಭಾಶಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಕನ್ಯಾಮರಿಯಮ್ಮನ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ನಮ್ಮ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಂತಿ, ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಏಕತೆ ನೆಲೆಸಲಿ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಗುವೂ ದೇವರ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ವರವೆಂದು ಗೌರವಿಸಲ್ಪಡಲಿ. ನಮ್ಮ ಹೊಲಗಳು ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಲಿ, ನಮ್ಮ ಪರಿಸರ ಹಸಿರಿನಿಂದ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸಲಿ. ನಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯಗಳು ದೇವರ ಅನುಗ್ರಹಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸದಾ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿರಲಿ.
ಮರಿಯಮ್ಮನ ಜನ್ಮಹಬ್ಬವು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಮನೆಗೂ ಆಶೆಯ ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಸಂಕೇತ ವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಇಡೀ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಗೂ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಹೊಸ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪವನ್ನು ತರಲಿ.

ನಿಯೋಗವು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆಯನ್ನು ಮಂಡಿಸಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಹಣಕಾಸು ಮತ್ತು ಅಗತ್ಯ ಸಹಾಯವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಕೋರಿತು.

ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ಸಚಿವರು ನವೀನ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಕಲ್ಪನೆಯಿಂದ ತುಂಬಾ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿತರಾದರು. ಅವರು ನಿಯೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಉಪಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಹಾಯವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದಾಗಿ ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ನಿಯೋಗದ ನೇತೃತ್ವವನ್ನು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಎಂಎಲ್‌ಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹಿಂದಿನ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ರಚನಾ ಅವರ ಶ್ರೀ ಇವಾನ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಸಭೆಯು ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹದಾಯಕವಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವಿತ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

A delegation met the Minister, Hon’ble Shri U.T. Khader and presented a trade exhibition proposal.

A delegation met Hon’ble Shri U. T. Khader, District In-charge Minister and Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Minority Welfare, Haj and Wakf, Government of Karnataka.

The delegation presented the Trade Exhibition proposal and requested his support in facilitating funding and necessary assistance from the Government of Karnataka.

The Hon’ble Minister expressed his appreciation for the innovative idea and was very impressed with the concept. He assured the delegation of his support and promised to extend all possible assistance towards making the initiative a success.

The delegation was led by Mr. Ivan D’Souza, MLC, Government of Karnataka and Past President, Rachana.

ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ ೬ ಭಾನುವಾರದಂದು ಸಂತ ಜೋಸೆಫರ ಇಗರ್ಜಿ ಕೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಟುಂಬ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾದ ವಂದನೀಯ ಸ್ಟ್ಯಾನಿ ತಾವ್ರೊ ಅವರು ಪವಿತ್ರ ಬಲಿಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು. ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ವಿಶೇಶವಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ನಂತರ ನಡೆದ ಸಭಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅಥಿತಿಯಾಗಿ ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಆಯೋಗದ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾದ ಲೆಸ್ಲಿ ಅರೋಜಾ ಅವರು ಆಗಮಿಸಿ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಜೀವನದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಕುರಿತು ಭಾಶಣ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

ನಂತರ ಮನೋರಂಜನಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗಳಿಂದ ರಂಜಿಸಿದರು.

ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಶರಾದ ಹೆರಾಲ್ಡ್ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಅವರು ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿದರು. ಕುಟುಂಬ ಆಯೋಗದ ಸಂಚಾಲಕೀ ಒಲಿವಿಯಾ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಅವರು ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಸಮೂಹ ಸಹ ಭೋಜನದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಅಂತ್ಯಗೊಂಡಿತು.

ಉರ್ವ; “ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಹಸಿವನ್ನು ನೀಗಿಸುವ ಗುರುಗಳು ದೇಶ ಕಟ್ಟಲು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸದಾ ದಾರಿದೀಪ ವಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ” ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಶಾಲೆ ಉರ್ವ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲಾ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರು ವಂ.ಫಾ.ಬೆಂಜಮಿನ್ ಪಿಂಟೋ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಚರ್ಚ್ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಸಂಘದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟರು.

 ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ   ಶಾಲಾ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀಯುತ  ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಡಿಸೋಜ ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕ ರಕ್ಷಕ ಸಂಘದ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಶೈಲಶ್ರೀ, ಹಿರಿಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರಾದ ಲವಿನ ದಿಕ್ಕುನ್ನ , ಮತ್ತು ಲವೀನಾ ಪಿಂಟೋ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು. ಡಾ| ಸರ್ವಪಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಧಾಕೃಷ್ಣನ್ ರವರ ಭಾವಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಪುಷ್ಪಾರ್ಚನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ವಂದನೇ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೆ ಮನೋರಂಜನ ಆಟಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಶಿಕ್ಷಕ ರಕ್ಷಕ ಸಂಘದ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾದ ಶಹಾನಾಜ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿ  ಶ್ರುತಿ ವಂದಿಸಿದರು.

ದಾವಣಗೆರೆ, ಹರಿಹರ, ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 6, 2025 : ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್‌ನ ಹರಿಹರದ ಅವರ್ ಲೇಡಿ ಆಫ್ ಹೆಲ್ತ್, ಮೈನರ್ ಬೆಸಿಲಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಟನೇ ದಿನದ ನೊವೆನಾ ಸಂಜೆ 5:30 ಕ್ಕೆ ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯ ಲೂರ್ಡ್ಸ್ ಬಾಲಕರ ಶಾಲೆಯ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಮತ್ತು ವರದಿಗಾರ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಸ್ಟಾನಿಸ್ಲಾಸ್ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿಹರ ಮಠಕ್ಕೆ ಜಪಮಾಲೆ, ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪುಷ್ಪ ನಮನಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ನಂತರ ಬೆಸಿಲಿಕಾ ಸಹಾಯಕ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಆಂಥೋನಿ ರೊಸಾರಿಯೊ ಎಂಎಸ್‌ಎಫ್‌ಎಸ್ ನೊವೆನಾ ನೇತೃತ್ವ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಸಂಜೆ 6:30 ಕ್ಕೆ ಗದಗದ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಇಗ್ನೇಷಿಯಸ್ ಲೊಯೊಲಾ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಫಾದರ್ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಹೆನ್ರಿ ಥಾಮಸ್ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಯೂಕರಿಸ್ಟ್ ಅನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು “ಮದರ್ ಮೇರಿ ನಿರಾಶ್ರಿತರ ತಾಯಿ” (ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಂಚಿಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ವಲಸೆ ಮಾತೆ, ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮಾತೆ) ಎಂಬ ವಿಷಯದ ಕುರಿತು ತಮ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶವನ್ನು ಬೋಧಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಬೋಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶಕಾಂಡ 24:14-22, 1 ತಿಮೋತಿ 5:1-8, ಮ್ಯಾಥ್ಯೂ 18:15-20 ಆಧರಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಪವಿತ್ರ ಪೂಜೆಯ ನಂತರ, ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಹೆನ್ರಿ ಥಾಮಸ್ ಆರಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಫ್ರಾಂಕ್ಲಿನ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಗುಣಪಡಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದರು.

ಮೈನರ್ ಬೆಸಿಲಿಕಾದ ರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾರ್ಜ್ ಕೆ ಎ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಹೆನ್ರಿ ಥಾಮಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ದಾನಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು.

Davanagere, Harihara, September 6, 2025 : Eighth day’s Novena at Our Lady of Health, Minor Basilica, Harihara, Davanagere District, Diocese of Shimoga, began at 5:30pm with Rosary, Procession and floral homages to Harihara Matha led by Rev. Fr. Alvine Stanislaus, Manager and Correspondent of Lourdes Boys School, Davanagere. Then Basilica Assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr Anthony Rosario MSFS led the Novena.

At 6:30pm Rev. Fr Henry Thomas, Parish Priest of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Gadag, offered the Holy Eucharist. He preached his homily on the theme: “Mother Mary is the Mother of the refugees”(ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಂಚಿಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ವಲಸಿಗರ ಮಾತೆ,ಅರೋಗ್ಯ ಮಾತೆ) he based his teaching Deutronomy 24:14-22, 1 Timothy 5:1-8, Mathew 18:15-20

After the Mass, Rev. Fr Henry Thomas led adoration and Rev. Fr Franklin D’Souza led the healing prayers.
