ಮಂಗಳೂರು; ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮ ಬಿಳಿಮಲೆ, “ಸಹಬಾಳ್ವೆಗೆ ಬೆದರಿಕೆಗಳು: ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವದ ಮುಂದೆ ಸವಾಲುಗಳು” ಎಂಬ ವಿಷಯದ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯದಂತಹ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಜನರನ್ನು ವಿಭಜಿಸುವ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. “ನಮ್ಮ ಭಿನ್ನಾಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳು ವಿಭಜನೆಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಬಾರದು, ನಮ್ಮ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿರಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು, ಭಾರತದ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಮಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗೆ ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಆಡಳಿತಗಾರರ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದರು.
ಡಾ. ಕೆ. ಶರೀಫಾ ಸಂತ ಮದರ್ ತೆರೇಸಾ ಅವರ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಕ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸಿದರು, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕಾಲದ ಬಲಿಷ್ಠ ಮಹಿಳೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಗೆ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಹೇಗೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟುಹೋದರು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಸಭೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ, ಅವರು ದಯೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಂತಿಯ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಹರಡಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಿಷಪ್ ಎಮೆರಿಟಸ್ ಡಾ. ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ, ಕಷ್ಟಗಳ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಮದರ್ ತೆರೇಸಾ ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂತೋಷವನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡರು ಎಂದು ಗಮನಿಸಿದರು. “ನಿನ್ನೆ ಕಳೆದುಹೋಯಿತು, ನಾಳೆ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಇಂದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇಂದು ನಾವು ಏಕತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಂತಿಯತ್ತ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಇಡೋಣ” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದರು.
ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ನಿರ್ಗತಿಕರ ಪ್ರಬಲ ಧ್ವನಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮದರ್ ತೆರೇಸಾ ವಿಚಾರ ವೇದಿಕೆಗೆ ಅವರ ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲೀನ ಬೆಂಬಲಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಡಾ. ಬಾಬು ಜಗಜೀವನ್ ರಾಮ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತ ಕೆ. ಕರಿಯ ಮಂಗಳ ಜ್ಯೋತಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಅವರ ಆದರ್ಶಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರೇರಿತರಾಗಿ, ಸಂತ ಮದರ್ ತೆರೇಸಾ ವಿಚಾರ ವೇದಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಎಂಟು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಪ್ರಗತಿಪರ ಚಿಂತನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹರಡಲು ಜಾತ್ಯತೀತ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ವೇದಿಕೆಯು ಸಮರಸ್ಯ ದೀಪಾವಳಿ, ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ಮಸ್, ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯ ಇಫ್ತಾರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಏಕತೆ ದಸರಾ ಮುಂತಾದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದೆ, ಪ್ರತಿ ಹಬ್ಬವು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಆಚರಣೆಯಾಗಬೇಕೆಂಬ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಚಿಣ್ಣರ ಕಲಾರವೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹ ನಡೆಸಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯದ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಸಮಾನ ಮನಸ್ಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದೆ.

ಮಂಜುಳಾ ನಾಯಕ್ ಅವರು ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು, ಸುನಿಲ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಬಜಾಲ್ ಅವರು ಸಮಾರಂಭದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ಹಲವಾರು ಶಾಲೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಸಹ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

Delivering the keynote, Prof. Purushothama Bilimale spoke on the theme “Threats to Coexistence: Challenges Before Democracy.” He emphasized that values such as peace and harmony are gradually diminishing and warned against political attempts to divide people. “Our differences should be our strength, not a reason for division,” he stressed, citing historical examples of rulers who contributed positively to India’s diverse culture .
Dr. K. Shareefa reflected on the inspiring life of St. Mother Teresa, recalling how she, as a strong woman of her time, left behind everything to serve humanity. Through her congregation, she spread the message of kindness and peace, and continues to inspire people to do good.
Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop Emeritus of Mangalore, noted that Mother Teresa found happiness in serving the poor despite hardships. “Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is unknown, but today is in our hands. Let us take a step today towards unity and peace,” he urged.
On this occasion, Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Awardee K. Kariya Mangala Jyothi was felicitated for being a strong voice of the needy and for his longstanding support to the Mother Teresa Vichara Vedike.
Roy Castelino, President of the Vedike, in his address, reminded the gathering of Mother Teresa’s spirit of selfless service: “One should help others, even those who wrong us, without expecting anything in return.”

Adding to the program’s significance, an exhibition of books related to the life and works of St. Mother Teresa was also held, drawing the attention of participants and spreading her timeless message further.
St. Mother Teresa, remembered as the “Mother of Humanity,” dedicated her life to serving the poor, sick, and marginalized. Born in Skopje, Macedonia, she came to India at the age of 21 and later founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, which today has over 4,500 sisters serving in 135 countries. Her selfless service earned her the Nobel Peace Prize, and she was canonized as a saint in 2016.
Inspired by her ideals, the St. Mother Teresa Vichara Vedike was established eight years ago as a secular platform to spread progressive thought and harmony. The Vedike has since organized programs like Samarasya Deepavali, Harmony Christmas, Harmony Iftar, and Unity Dasara, promoting the vision that every festival should become a celebration for all. It has also conducted Chinnara Kalarave workshops for children and consistently worked with like-minded organizations on issues of peace and livelihood.
Through such initiatives and commemorations, the Vedike continues to carry forward the legacy of Mother Teresa by fostering unity, compassion, and service across the coastal region.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Manjula Nayak, while Sunil Kumar Bajal served as the master of ceremonies. Students from several schools and colleges also took part in the event.
