The Cybernetics Association (UG) and Technophite Association (PG) of the School of IT of St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru hosted SYNTAXIA 2026, a vibrant National Inter-College Technical Fest, on 2nd and 3rd March 2026. Bringing together enthusiastic participants from various colleges, the two-day fest celebrated innovation, creativity, and collaboration through a diverse lineup of competitions, gaming tournaments, and interactive events.

A Grand Beginning

The fest began with an inauguration ceremony held on 2nd March from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, graced by Mr. Muralidhar Ponnaluri, CEO of the ERA Foundation, as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by Rev. Fr. Denzil Lobo S.J., Director of the School of IT; Dr. A. M. Bojamma, Dean of the School of IT; Dr. B. G. Prashanthi, Associate Dean and Head of Department; Dr. Annie Syrien, Cybernetics Association Teacher Coordinator; and Ms. Saranya, Technophite Association Teacher Coordinator.

The ceremony began with a prayer, followed by the college anthem performed by the choir team and a graceful classical dance performance. The dignitaries, along with Monisha S., President of Cybernetics, and Deemanth, Vice President of Technophite, then participated in the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the official commencement of the fest.

Dr. Annie Syrien welcomed the gathering and set the tone for the event, after which Rev. Fr. Denzil Lobo addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of innovation and collaborative learning in the ever-evolving world of technology.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Muralidhar Ponnaluri, was introduced by N. C. Yashwant, who highlighted his contributions to strengthening the higher education ecosystem through initiatives led by the ERA Foundation and Comedkares. After being felicitated, Mr. Ponnaluri shared inspiring insights on leadership, innovation, and the importance of skill development for students in the modern technological landscape.

A key highlight of the inauguration was the official poster reveal and launch of Syntaxia, the flagship segment of the fest. Monisha S. and Deemanth then introduced the exciting lineup of competitions that participants could look forward to.

Day 1: Entering the World of Minecraft

This year, the Cybernetics segment of Syntaxia embraced the creative theme of “Minecraft,” inspiring several events that reflected the spirit of exploration, problem-solving, and creativity found in the popular game.

The FlagFest (Capture the Flag) cybersecurity competition attracted 17 teams, who battled through a series of technical challenges to uncover hidden digital flags.

Creativity took center stage in Craft the Scene, a reel-making competition where participants produced short videos inspired by the Minecraft theme, incorporating genres such as romance, action, and mystery.

Another themed event, Mine Your Way Out, placed participants in a Minecraft-inspired escape room filled with puzzles and clues that required teamwork and logical thinking to solve.

Meanwhile, the Business Revival event challenged six teams to develop strategies to revive struggling businesses through innovative ideas and strategic thinking.

For coding enthusiasts, the Coding and Debugging competition provided an intense test of programming skills. The event consisted of two rounds — a debugging round (40% weightage) followed by a coding round (60% weightage).

Day 2: Strategy, Knowledge, and Competition

The second day continued the excitement with a fresh set of engaging competitions.

In the IPL Auction event, eight teams strategically bid for players to build the strongest possible team. Winners were determined based on the combined ratings of the players acquired during the auction.

The Data Detective competition saw 13 teams competing in two rounds — a 20-question Kahoot quiz followed by an SQL-based challenge that tested participants’ analytical and database skills.

Another highlight was Steve’s Trial, an IT quiz competition featuring nine teams that tested participants’ knowledge across various domains of information technology.

Anime enthusiasts also found their spotlight in Weeb Wars, where seven teams competed in a 30-question MCQ round followed by a creative “Guess the Connection” round based on visual clues.

Gaming Arena

Adding to the excitement were the gaming tournaments that drew enthusiastic participation from esports fans. The BGMI tournament, conducted on 28th February, featured 14 teams competing in squads of four players and a substitute. The Valorant tournament, held on 3rd March, saw 10 teams battling it out in intense matches.

A Memorable Finale

Syntaxia 2026 concluded with a valedictory ceremony on 3rd March from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The ceremony was attended by Rev. Fr. Denzil Lobo S.J., Dr. A. M. Bojamma, Dr. B. G. Prashanthi, Dr. B. Nithya, Dr. Annie Syrien, and Ms. Saranya M.

The event began with lamp lighting, followed by a recap of the fest presented by the Public Relations Heads — Aashika S from Cybernetics and Jonathan from Technophite. A highlight video of the fest, created by Abel Philip Thomas, the Cybernetics Social Media Head, captured memorable moments from the two-day celebration.

The organizing committees were recognized for their dedication before the winners were announced. The Overall Trophy for the UG category was won by BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), while the PG Overall Trophy was secured by Christ (Deemed to be University), Central Campus.

The event concluded on a lively note with a music performance by Section D, bringing the celebrations to an energetic close.

Beyond Competition

More than just a technical fest, Syntaxia 2026 served as a platform for students to connect, collaborate, and showcase their talents. With its blend of technology, creativity, strategy, and entertainment, the fest successfully created an unforgettable experience for participants and organizers alike.

Genealogy Is Needed Only to Satisfy Curiosity on the minds: Expert Dr. Michael Lobo

Genealogy expert Dr. Michael Lobo opined that learning about one’s genealogy is mainly useful for satisfying curiosity. He said that for Christians, it is enough to look at church records to trace family lineage, but apart from fulfilling curiosity, it does not have much practical use. Dr. Lobo, who researched genealogies and published a ten-thousand-page book on the subject and also received a doctorate from a foreign university for his work, shared these views while speaking as the keynote speaker at a genealogy programme.

The programme was organized on the occasion of the 52nd Foundation Day of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Karnataka at the BEM School, Car Street Hall, with the cooperation of the Touro family.

S.L. Shet Diamond & Jewellers chirman S. L. Prashanth Shet, who inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp, said that by organizing various meaningful programmes, the Konkani Bhasha Mandal Karnataka is moving towards fulfilling its true objective of addressing the needs of the Konkani community.

Presiding over the programme, President Raymond D’Cunha Taccode said that Konkani language associations exist in Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, and Maharashtra, and their work is part of the Konkani movement. He noted that earlier they were at the forefront of struggles for the formation of an academy and for recognition under the Eighth Schedule, and now they are prepared to continue the movement for a Konkani Bhavan and for postgraduate (MA) studies in Konkani.

Chief guest John A.Touro Kamath conveyed her best wishes. Noel Touro, who had researched the genealogy of the Touro family, explained details about the family lineage.

Participants who attended the programme also shared their experiences and information related to genealogy.
Treasurer Vasanth Rao, Geetha C. Kini, and Juliet Fernandes conducted the question-and-answer session.

Vice President Meenakshi N. Pai and State Teachers’ Association Former Vice President Stany Touro delivered the concluding remarks.

At the beginning, Executive Member Robert Menezes welcomed the gathering, Secretary Liston D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks, and Jossy Pinto compered the programme.

National High School Organises a Heart-Touching Farewell to Their Science Teacher and the Outgoing SSLC Batch 2025-26

Barkur; It was around 2:00 in the afternoon. The stage of our school library had been beautifully decorated like a bride. Behind this elegant decoration was the creative effort of the Class IX students, guided by their class teacher Mr. Maruti. The stage had been specially adorned for the “Guru Vandana Programme” and the Farewell Ceremony for the Class X students.
At 2:15 p.m., a group of teachers led by senior teacher Mrs. Hemavathi P. S. escorted Mrs. Jyothi Shetty, the central figure of the Guru Vandana programme, into the library hall. As she entered, all the students gathered in the hall stood up and greeted her with deep respect.
The programme began under the compering of Mr. Maruti K. P., Kannada teacher of the High School section, who shouldered the responsibility of conducting the event. The dignitaries then occupied the stage. As is customary, the programme began with a prayer by the students, which marked the formal start of the event.
With the conclusion of the prayer, the Guru Vandana programme commenced. High school students spoke warmly about their beloved Science teacher Mrs. Jyothi Shetty, describing how she had become a “light of knowledge” in their lives. Their words felt sincere and very close to reality.
Listening to the heartfelt expressions of the students, Mrs. Jyothi Shetty’s eyes became moist, almost without her realising it. Through the students’ words, her professional life and personality seemed to be reflected before her. Indeed, sometimes truth reveals itself in unexpected moments.
Although she accepted the Guru Kanike (token of gratitude) collected by the students, it appeared that the gesture weighed heavily on her heart. She seemed to accept it only because it symbolised the love and affection of the students.
The felicitation organised by the students, far beyond expectations, left her astonished. It was truly a recognition that exceeded her expectations. The thoughtful gesture of the students, beyond their age and maturity, left her almost speechless. Words faded into silence, and emotions hesitated to turn into sentences.
When she rose to respond after receiving the honour, she spoke with a choked voice. She expressed her happiness at seeing that students still possess the culture of recognising and respecting their teachers.
A particularly touching moment was when the students presented a pencil sketch portrait of Mrs. Jyothi Shetty and her husband, drawn by the students themselves. The gift brought immense joy to her heart.
After receiving the Guru Vandana from the students, Mrs. Jyothi Shetty, in a gesture reflecting the saying “returning the water of the lake back to the lake,” handed over the monetary gift received from the students to the Headmistress, requesting that it be used for the benefit of the students. One must truly say “hats off” to her affection for the school and its students.
The Correspondent of the institution, Mr. Rajgopal Nambiar, and the Administrative Co-ordinator Mr. Archibald Furtado were present on the occasion and appreciated the role played by Mrs. Jyothi Shetty in the growth of the institution.
The programme was presided over by the Acting Principal of the College, Mrs. Usha Kiran, who briefly highlighted the admirable personality of Mrs. Jyothi Shetty. Indeed, her personality is one that words alone cannot fully capture.
The programme was also graced by the presence of Mr. Uday Shetty, Headmaster of Hanehalli Primary School, and Mr. Umesh Shetty, Physical Education Director of our college, which added further dignity to the occasion.
The Guru Vandana programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Ashok Gundmi, Social Science teacher of the High School section.
After this, the stage opened for the Farewell Programme of the Class X students.
This programme was organised by the high school students with the support of the Class VI and VII students. In fact, the concept that junior students should organise the farewell programme for senior students was once an idea envisioned by Mrs. Jyothi Shetty herself. She might never have imagined that the farewell programme she once initiated would one day coincide with her own Guru Vandana on the occasion of her retirement. The coming together of these two events seemed purely coincidental.
The junior students of the high school shared their thoughts and best wishes for the Class X students.
The farewell programme was presided over by senior teacher Mrs. Hemavathi P. S.
The Class X class teacher Mr. Ashok Gundmi handed over a projector worth ₹15,000, contributed by the Class X students, to Mrs. Hemavathi P. S. through the students.

A permanent name board was also prepared and handed over to the school head to record the names of students who secure the highest marks. This will remain displayed in the Class X classroom as an inspiration to future students.
On this occasion, Mr. Sridhar Ullittaya, who had earlier served the institution for a decade as a Sanskrit teacher and strengthened the roots of Sanskrit in the high school section, was also honoured on behalf of the students.
The farewell programme for the Class X students, successfully organised under the leadership of Class IX students, concluded with a vote of thanks.
After the programme, the students enjoyed a light refreshment prepared by the Akshara Dasoha staff. Later, the Class X students gathered in front of the flag post to take photographs with their teachers. The Administrative Co-ordinator and the Correspondent joined them as well.
Mr. Suresh, owner of Subhanu Studio, captured the memorable moments through photographs.
Except for a brief interruption caused by a temporary power failure, the entire programme proceeded smoothly and successfully.
The sweets distributed by Administrative Co-ordinator Mr. Archibald Furtado added sweetness to the occasion.
Finally, wishing all the Class X students great success, and sharing the memorable moments captured during the Guru Vandana Programme and the Farewell Ceremony, this report comes to a graceful conclusion.

On the occasion, the Founder Customers of the Byndoor Branch were felicitated by the Chairman, Sahakara Ratna Mr Anil Lobo, in recognition of their trust, encouragement, and foundational support extended to the Branch since the inception of the Branch. Their patronage played a vital role in enabling the Branch to achieve the ₹10 Crore business milestone in a remarkably short period. The Chairman honoured them on behalf of the entire customer community of the Byndoor Branch, expressing the Bank’s heartfelt gratitude for their continued support, confidence, and commitment towards the growth of MCC Bank.

In his Presidential Address, Chairman Sahakara Ratna Mr. Anil Lobo said that the Byndoor branch achieved the target of ₹10 crores in just six months, which is a historic achievement for MCC Bank. Every year the bank celebrates Women’s Day in the Head office, but this year it was decided to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Byndoor branch on the occasion of achieving the 10 crore turnover.

He recalled that when the branch was inaugurated, some people had expressed doubts about its success. However, the large gathering at the inauguration itself reflected the strong support of the people of the area, which later translated into business growth. Such a huge gathering had not been seen at the opening of any other branch of the bank. This clearly showed the strong support of the people of the area for the branch. On that very day, the management believed that the Byndoor branch would grow successfully. He thanked the people of Byndoor for their support in helping the branch achieve the ₹10 crore target within a short span of time.

He further said that this achievement shows that Byndoor is a rapidly developing area, as clearly proved by the branch reaching the ₹10 crore milestone. He added that MCC Bank is now progressing steadily. When the present management took charge of the bank in 2018, the bank crossed a turnover of ₹1500 crores within just seven years. He stated that this achievement was possible because of the support of the members of the Board, the staff, and the customers.

He further stated that the bank will soon provide all the facilities available in nationalised banks, especially digital banking services, and that efforts are being made to upgrade the digital platform. He requested the continued support of customers to help expand the bank across the entire state of Karnataka.

He also thanked Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital for organising the medical camp for the people of Byndoor and appreciated the valuable service provided by the hospital to the public. He noted that a large number of people had benefited from the medical camp and encouraged the public to make use of the services offered by Fr Muller Medical College Hospital. He also conveyed his best wishes to Dr Elroy Saldanha and the staff who rendered their services during the medical camp.

On the occasion, he extended his wishes to all women on International Women’s Day and said that women today are the backbone of the country, excelling in every field. He added that women are increasingly taking up leadership roles, and in leadership, challenges are inevitable. However, if these challenges are approached positively, success can be achieved. He also thanked all the customers of the Byndoor branch for their continued support.

He also thanked the Branch Support Director, Mr Elroy K. Crasto, for his excellent work in arranging the programme and for his contribution towards the branch achieving the ₹10 crore milestone.

In his keynote address, Rev Fr Vincent Coelho expressed his happiness on the occasion of the branch achieving a turnover of ₹10 crores within a short span of time. He said that this achievement was possible only because of the trust and commitment shown by the customers of the branch and the people of the Byndoor area, as well as the strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the bank. He added that the bank has grown steadily due to the confidence reposed in it by its customers and that the bank is progressing very well. He also thanked the Chairman for the remarkable achievement and the progress of the bank under his leadership.

He further said that this bank belongs to both the management and the customers, i.e. ours and yours. All facilities available in nationalized banks are also provided by MCC Bank. Modern banking facilities, a clean environment, and customer-friendly services are available at all branches. Currently, 21 branches are operating across the state of Karnataka and are prospering. He wished that the bank continues to grow and serve the entire state under the leadership of the present Board.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, he extended his wishes to all women and said that women in India live with honour and dignity. He emphasized that every woman should focus on self-development and noted the important role women play in self-help groups. He urged the community to respect and support women in their efforts toward self-improvement.

He also expressed confidence that the Byndoor branch of MCC Bank would achieve a further ₹10 crore in the next six months and encouraged the people of Byndoor to contribute to this success.

He appreciated the arrangement of the free medical camp, noting that the Bank chose to organize a meaningful programme for the public rather than celebrating in a grand or posh manner. He thanked everyone involved for making the camp possible. He concluded by praying for God’s blessings upon the bank and all its customers.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the women customers of the Byndoor Branch were honoured by the Chairman of the Bank with a shawl, gift, and rose in recognition of their valuable association with the Bank and their contribution to the growth of the branch. Women staff who attended the programme were also felicitated.

The event celebrated the spirit and achievements of women while acknowledging the collaborative efforts of staff and partner institutions in serving the community.

The Branch Manager and staff of the Byndoor Branch, along with the Branch Support Director, Mr. Elroy K. Crasto, were honoured for their dedicated service.

As a token of appreciation, mementos were presented to the dignitaries by Chairman Sahakara Ratna Mr Anil Lobo in gratitude for their esteemed presence and guidance.

The programme commenced with a prayer song rendered by bank staff Mr Manoj Lopes, and singer Treeza Lopez followed by documentary presentation showcasing the inspiring journey of MCC Bank and the progress of present Management.
