PMI Mangaluru Unit Celebrates Rakshabandhan at District Jail ; Rakhi celebration promotes brotherhood, dignity and hope among inmates
ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 28, 2026; ಕರುಣೆ, ಸಹೋದರತ್ವ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಒಳಗೊಳ್ಳುವಿಕೆಯ ಸಂದೇಶ ಸಾರುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ “ಪ್ರಿಸನ್ ಮಿನಿಸ್ಟ್ರಿ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ (PMI) ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಘಟಕ” ದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರಾಗೃಹದಲ್ಲಿ ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಬಂಧಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಜೈಲು ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಒಂದೇ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿಸಿ, ಸಹೋದರತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯ ಭಾವನೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಪಿಎಂಐ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಗೀತೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಡುವುದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆರಂಭಗೊಂಡಿತು. ಬಂಧಿಗಳು, ಜೈಲು ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರಿಗೆ ದೇವರ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದ ದೊರೆಯಲಿ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಡೋರಾ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ, ಈ ಹಬ್ಬವು ಕೇವಲ ರಕ್ತ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ರಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಗೌರವ, ಸಹೋದರತ್ವ ಹಾಗೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಜನರನ್ನು ಒಂದಾಗಿಸುವ ಬಾಂಧವ್ಯವನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನ ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರಾಗೃಹದ ಅಧೀಕ್ಷಕ ಶರಣಬಸಪ್ಪ, ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನವು ಭರವಸೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಸಾರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. “ಇಂದು ನಾವು ಸಹೋದರತ್ವವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ರಾಖಿ ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪಿಎಂಐ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲಿನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಬೆಂಬಲ ಹಾಗೂ ನೀವು ಈ ಜೈಲಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಬಂದ ಬಳಿಕ ಉತ್ತಮ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳಲು ನೆರವಾಗುವ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ,” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳು ಬಂಧಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಳವಾದ ಸ್ಪಂದನೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದವು. ಜೈಲು ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದಿಲ್ಲ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವು ಬದಲಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅವಕಾಶ ದೊರೆಯಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಬಲಪಡಿಸಿತು.
ನಂತರ ಪಿಎಂಐ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕರು ಬಂಧಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗೆ ರಾಖಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿದರು. ಇದು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಗೌರವ, ಐಕ್ಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹೋದರತ್ವದ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿ ಮೂಡಿಬಂತು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸಿಹಿತಿಂಡಿ ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಈ ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನ ಆಚರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 370 ಮಂದಿ ಬಂಧಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ 50 ಮಂದಿ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಪಿಎಂಐ ವತಿಯಿಂದ 17 ಸದಸ್ಯರು, ಸಂಯೋಜಕ ಡೊನಾಲ್ಡ್ ಕಟಿನ್ಹೊ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಸಿಸ್ಟರ್ ಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸ್ನಾ ಎ.ಸಿ. ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.
ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರಾಗೃಹದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ರಕ್ಷಾಬಂಧನ ಆಚರಣೆಯು ಬಂಧಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಳಜಿ, ಗೌರವ, ಸ್ನೇಹ ಮತ್ತು ಭರವಸೆ ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ಪಿಎಂಐನ ಸೇವಾ ಧ್ಯೇಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಅಭಿವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಜೈಲಿನ ಗೋಡೆಗಳ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವೀಯ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗಳು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಣಮುಖತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಗೆ ದಾರಿ ತೆರೆಯಬಲ್ಲವು ಎಂಬ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಸಾರಿತು.

MANGALURU, August 28, 2026: In a gesture of compassion, fraternity and social inclusion, the Prison Ministry India (PMI), Mangaluru Unit organised a Rakshabandhan celebration at the District Jail, Mangaluru, bringing inmates and prison personnel together in a spirit of brotherhood and human solidarity.
The programme began with a prayer song by PMI members, seeking God’s blessings on the inmates, prison personnel and volunteers gathered for the occasion.
Speaking on the significance of Rakshabandhan, Mrs. Dora D’Souza highlighted that the festival extends beyond biological relationships. She described it as a celebration of love, protection, mutual respect, brotherhood and the bonds that unite people, irrespective of their circumstances.
Addressing the gathering, Sharanabasappa, Superintendent of the District Jail, emphasised the message of hope and transformation associated with the celebration. “Today we celebrate brotherhood. By tying the Rakhi, the PMI members are expressing their love, support and readiness to help you become better persons when you leave this prison,” he said.
His words resonated deeply with the inmates, reinforcing the message that imprisonment need not define a person’s future and that every individual deserves encouragement and an opportunity for transformation.
The PMI volunteers subsequently tied Rakhis to the inmates as well as to the police personnel, symbolising mutual respect, solidarity and fraternity. Sweets were also distributed to everyone present, adding a festive spirit to the gathering.
The celebration was attended by 370 inmates and 50 police personnel. From PMI, 17 members, along with Coordinator Donald Cutinho and Secretary Sr. Jyotsna A.C., participated in the programme.
The Rakshabandhan celebration at the District Jail thus became a meaningful expression of PMI’s mission of reaching out to prisoners with care, dignity, friendship and hope, demonstrating that even within the walls of a prison, gestures of love and human connection can open doors to healing and transformation.
