Joshal D’Souza’s Sumadhur mesmerises audience with a fusion of music and visuals
ಜೋಶಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಕಲಾವಿದೆಯಾಗಿ ಪಾದಾರ್ಪಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನಾ ಸುಮಧುರ್ ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಚೇರಿಯು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಆಗ್ನೆಸ್ ಶತಮಾನೋತ್ಸವ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗೀತ, ನೃತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ದೃಶ್ಯ ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳುವಿಕೆಯ ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ಮಿಶ್ರಣದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸಿತು.
ನವೆಂಬರ್ 15 ರ ಭಾನುವಾರ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಜೋಶಲ್ ಅವರ ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮತ್ತು ಯುವ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸುವ ಅವರ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿತು. ತುಂಬಿದ ಸಭಾಂಗಣವು ಸಂಗೀತ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಧನೆಯ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಕ ಆಚರಣೆಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಯಿತು.
ಸುಮಧುರ್ ಸಂಗೀತ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಸ್ವಾಗತ ನೃತ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು.
ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಗಣ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು, ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನಿವಾಸಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಉದ್ಯಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಲೋಕೋಪಕಾರಿ ಮೈಕೆಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ; ಡೈಜಿವರ್ಲ್ಡ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ವಾಲ್ಟರ್ ನಂದಳಿಕೆ; OFM ಸಭೆಯ ಪ್ರಾಂತೀಯ ಸುಪೀರಿಯರ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಪಾಲ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ; ಫರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಗ್ರೂಪ್ನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ವಿಲ್ಸನ್ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್; ಮರಿಯನ್ ಬಿಲ್ಡರ್ಸ್ನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ನವೀನ್ ಕಾರ್ಡೋಜಾ; ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಅಭಿಮಾನ್ ರಾಯ್; ಮಾಂಡ್ ಸೋಭಾನ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಲೂಯಿಸ್ ಪಿಂಟೊ; ಎಂಸಿಸಿ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಅನಿಲ್ ಲೋಬೊ ಫೆರ್ಮೈ; ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸ್ಟ್ಯಾನಿ ಅಲ್ವಾರೆಸ್.
ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೈಕೆಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ, ಯುವ ಕಲಿಯುವವರಿಗೆ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ತರಬೇತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ವೇದಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯನ್ನು ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು. “ಜೋಶಾಲ್ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷಿ ಸಂಗೀತಗಾರರಿಗೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು. “ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಲಿಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಿದರು, ಆದರೆ ಇತರರು ಅದನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅವರ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಯುವ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಬಲೀಕರಣಗೊಳಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಿದೆ.” ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಬೇರುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು, ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಅವರ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನವು ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. “170 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ನನಗೆ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗಿದೆ” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಜೋಶಾಲ್ ಅವರ ಸಂಗೀತದ ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆಯನ್ನು ವಾಲ್ಟರ್ ನಂದಳಿಕೆ ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು. “ನಾನು ಅವರ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ನಿಕಟವಾಗಿ ಅನುಸರಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ” ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು. “ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಉತ್ಸಾಹವನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಲು ಯುಎಇಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ತೊರೆದರು. ಅವರು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಲ್ಲದೆ, ತಮ್ಮ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಇತರರಿಗೆ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದರು.” ಅವರು ಜೋಶಲ್ ಅವರ ಪತಿಯ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನೂ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡರು.

The inaugural Sumadhur concert, marking Joshal D’Souza’s debut as an independent artist, captivated the audience at St Agnes Centenary Hall, Mangaluru, with a compelling blend of music, dance, and visual storytelling.
Held on Sunday, November 15, the event showcased Joshal’s artistic journey and her commitment to nurturing young talent. The packed auditorium witnessed an inspiring celebration of music and achievement.
Organised by the Sumadhur Sangeeth Academy, the event opened with a traditional welcome dance performed by academy students.
The gathering was attended by several distinguished guests, including Michael D’Souza, NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist; Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld; Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza, Provincial Superior of the OFM Congregation; Wilson Fernandes, managing director of Fernandes Group; Naveen Cardoza, managing director of Marian Builders; Abhiman Roy, Kannada music director; Louis Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann; Anil Lobo Fermai, chairman of MCC Bank; and Stany Alvares, president of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy.
In his address, Michael D’Souza praised the academy for offering classical training and prestigious platforms to young learners. “Joshal is a role model for aspiring musicians,” he said. “She faced her own challenges in learning music, yet ensured others would not encounter the same. Her academy continues to empower young talent.” He also emphasised the importance of remembering one’s roots and mother tongue, adding that his vision for Konkani culture aligned with that of the academy. “I am delighted to witness 170 students perform on one stage,” he said.
Walter Nandalike lauded Joshal’s dedication to music. “I have followed her journey closely,” he said. “Despite being trained as an engineer, she left her job in the UAE to pursue her passion. Not only did she succeed, she created opportunities for others by founding her academy.” He also acknowledged the support of Joshal’s husband.
