Official visit of the new Bishop of Udupi Diocese to Tallur Church; Confirmation of 27 children

Kundapur, tallur; As part of his two-day pastoral visit, the Most Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza, the new Bishop of the Diocese of Udupi, arrived at St. Francis Assisi Church, Tallur, on the evening of June 27. He was accorded a warm and respectful welcome by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Edwin D’Souza, the members of the Parish Pastoral Council, and the faithful with the traditional arati, floral garland, and bouquet.

Following the traditional rites, the Bishop presided over the liturgical ceremonies and held an interactive meeting with the students and youth who were preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

On Sunday morning, the Bishop celebrated the solemn Holy Eucharist and administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 27 children of the parish, blessing them on this important occasion.

In his homily, the Bishop said, “We all possess faith in God, and this faith is the most precious gift given to us by Him. In the Old Testament, Abraham is known as the Father of Faith because he gave God the highest place in his life.

In the New Testament, St. Peter became the strong pillar of the Church through his unwavering faith in God. Likewise, we too must strengthen our faith day by day. No matter how busy we are, God must always have the first place in our lives. When we give God the first place, He blesses us abundantly.

Those who place their trust in God will be protected, cared for, and richly blessed by Him. Therefore, every family should give great importance to prayer and the daily reading of God’s Word. When parents and elders practise these habits, children learn by their example. Parents have the primary responsibility of nurturing faith in their children. Without this foundation, children become spiritually poor.

Today, 27 children have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. The gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit received through this sacrament should be treasured in your hearts and reflected in your daily lives.

Love and respect your parents and elders. Live joyfully. Having received the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, you are spiritually enriched. This sacrament strengthens your faith and helps you grow as true Christians and faithful witnesses of Christ. God gives you the courage to proclaim your faith and to be authentic witnesses to it.

God has created us, redeemed us, nourished us, and filled us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Let us gratefully receive these gifts, grow in faith, and lead lives that proclaim His glory.”

Later, the Bishop held a meeting with the Parish Pastoral Council, the various parish associations, and commission members. The coordinators presented reports on their respective activities.

The Bishop also visited St. Anthony’s Chapel at Devalakunda, where he led a prayer service. He visited two elderly parishioners in their homes and blessed them. He concluded his pastoral visit by visiting Jaya Rani Convent, participating in a meeting with the children’s small Christian community, and departed after completing his scheduled visit.
