National Librarian Day at Kalyanpur Milagres College

Milagres College Kallinpur’s Library and Information Center and NSS Units jointly celebrated National Librarian’s Day on August 12, 2025, in the Audio Visual Hall. The event featured Prof. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, Retired Professor from the Department of History, as the chief guest. Ms. Thanisha, a second-year B.Com student, welcomed the gathering with a thoughtful speech.

Prof. Shettigar highlighted the transformative power of books, sharing inspiring examples, including the story of a 12-year-old girl who started a library in a cancer hospital. He emphasized the importance of carrying a book instead of a mobile phone and shared his personal experiences of how books shaped his personality.

In his presidential remarks, Principal Dr. Vincent Alva reflected on his college days, where students relied on handwritten notes and reference books to prepare for exams, unlike today’s students who have access to AI tools like Chat GPT. He encouraged students to visit the library to read books and newspapers, noting the decline in foot traffic due to mobile phones.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Asthik, a second-year B.Com student, who also anchored the event. The celebration underscored the significance of libraries and reading in personal growth and development.
