ಮಂಗಳೂರು ; ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಸಹ-ಕುಲಪತಿ, ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ರೆಕ್ಟರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಎಜುಕೇಷನಲ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯ (ಎಂಜೆಇಎಸ್) ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಫಾದರ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಜೆ ಪಿಂಟೊ ಎಸ್‌ಜೆ, ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 10, 2026 ರಂದು ಸಂಜೆ 4.00 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಫಾದರ್ ಮುಲ್ಲರ್ಸ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವರ್ಗೀಯ ನಿವಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು.

ಪಾರ್ಥಿ ಪಾರ್ಥೀವ ಶರೀರವನ್ನು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಚಾಪೆಲ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 10.00 ರಿಂದ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನ 2.00 ರವರೆಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನ 2.30 ರಿಂದ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನ 3.30 ರವರೆಗೆ ಫಾತಿಮಾ ರಿಟ್ರೀಟ್ ಹೌಸ್‌ನ ಡಿವೈನ್ ಮರ್ಸಿ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸೋಮವಾರ, ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 13, 2026 ರಂದು ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನ 03.30 ಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಬಲಿದಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು, ನಂತರ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಸ್ಮಶಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತ್ಯಕ್ರಿಯೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಮೃತರ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ಸಂತಾಪಗಳು. ಫಾದರ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಜೆ ಪಿಂಟೊ, ಎಸ್‌ಜೆ ಅವರ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಿಗಲಿ.
ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 31, 1963 ರಂದು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬೆಂದೂರ್/ಕದ್ರಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಫಾದರ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಪಿಂಟೊ ಎಸ್‌ಜೆ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲಾ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಲೇಜು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರ ಜೂನ್ 20, 1981 ರಂದು ಸೊಸೈಟಿ ಆಫ್ ಜೀಸಸ್ (ಎಸ್‌ಜೆ) ಸೇರಿದರು. ಅವರ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಅರ್ಹತೆಗಳು: ಎಂಎ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್), ಮನೋವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಲೋಚನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂ.ಎಡ್. ಡಿಪ್ಲೊಮಾ; ಶಾಲಾ ಆಡಳಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ಡಿಪ್ಲೊಮಾ. ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 14, 1997 ರಂದು ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಪಾದ್ರಿಯಾಗಿ ದೀಕ್ಷೆ ಪಡೆದ ಫಾದರ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್, ಹಾಸನದ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 1996-97 ರವರೆಗೆ ಮುಖ್ಯೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯರಾಗಿ; ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 1998-99 ರವರೆಗೆ ಮುಖ್ಯೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯರಾಗಿ; ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಇಂಡಿಯನ್ ಕಾಂಪೋಸಿಟ್ ಪಿಯು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾಗಿ, 1999-2007 ರವರೆಗೆ (ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ಸ್ ಇಂಡಿಯನ್ ಪಿಯು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು); ಸೇಂಟ್ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು 2007-2011 ರವರೆಗೆ ಮುಖ್ಯೋಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯರಾಗಿ; ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು, ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ಸ್ ಪಿಯು ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಹಾಸನ 2011-12 ಮತ್ತು ರೋಮ್‌ನ ವ್ಯಾಟಿಕನ್ ಕಮ್ಯುನಿಕೇಷನ್ಸ್ & ರೇಡಿಯೊದಲ್ಲಿ ಏಷ್ಯಾ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರು. ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 2012 – ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 2017
ಫಾದರ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಮೇ 2017 ರಿಂದ ಮೇ 2019 ರವರೆಗೆ ವೇಲೆನ್ಸಿಯಾ- ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಫಾತಿಮಾ ರಿಟ್ರೀಟ್ ಹೌಸ್‌ನ ಸುಪೀರಿಯರ್ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ಮೇ 2019 ರಲ್ಲಿ ತಿರುವನಂತಪುರದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಜೂನಿಯರೇಟ್‌ನ ಸುಪೀರಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು, ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಹೊಸ ನೇಮಕಾತಿಯನ್ನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ಮೊದಲು ಧಾರವಾಡದ ಸುಪೀರಿಯರ್, ವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಕೇತನ, ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಸ್ಟಡಿ ಹೋಮ್ ಆಗಿ ನೇಮಕಗೊಂಡರು. ಫಾದರ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಅವರ ಹವ್ಯಾಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೌನ್ಸೆಲಿಂಗ್, ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ, ಇಗ್ನೇಷಿಯನ್ ರಿಟ್ರೀಟ್‌ಗಳ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ನಾಯಕತ್ವ, ಸ್ವಾಭಿಮಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಮೃದು ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಸೆಮಿನಾರ್‌ಗಳು ಸೇರಿವೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಧಾರವಾಡದ ವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಕೇತನ, ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಸ್ಟಡಿ ಹೋಮ್‌ನ ಸುಪೀರಿಯರ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಫಾದರ್ ಮೆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಜೆ. ಪಿಂಟೊ ಅಸಾಧಾರಣ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ನಾಯಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು, ಅವರ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನವರ ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಅಗತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಅಚಲ ಬದ್ಧತೆಗಾಗಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಕವಾಗಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು. ಒಬ್ಬ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕನಾಗಿ ಅವರ ಕರುಣಾಳು ಸ್ವಭಾವವು ಹೊಳೆಯಿತು, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯ ವಿಧಾನದಿಂದ ಅಸಂಖ್ಯಾತ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟಿದರು. ಫಾದರ್ ಪಿಂಟೊ ಆಳವಾದ ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದರು, ಬಡವರು ಮತ್ತು ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ನಿಜವಾದ ಕಾಳಜಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಸೇವೆಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸವಲತ್ತು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಮೇಲೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾದ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರಿತು.

ನಷ್ಟದ ಆಳವಾದ ಭಾವನೆಯು ಇಡೀ ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ ಸಮುದಾಯ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕರು, ಅವರ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಅವರನ್ನು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ಜನರು ಹಾಗೂ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತದೆ, ಅವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಅವರು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. – ಅವರ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಿಗಲಿ.

Co-Chancellors of Saint Aloysius University, Rector of Saint Aloysius Institutions – Passed away to heaven

Mangaluru ; Fr Melwin J Pinto SJ, Pro-Chancellor of St Aloysius University, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, and Vice President of Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society (MJES), went to the heavenly abode on 10 April 2026 at 4.00 PM at Fr Muller’s Hospital, Mangaluru.
The mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at St Aloysius College chapel, Mangaluru, from 10.00 AM to 2.00 PM and from 2.30 to 3.30 PM at Divine Mercy Church, Fathima Retreat House, and at the Mass at 03.30 PM on Monday, 13 April 2026, followed by burial in Jesuit Cemetery, Mangaluru. Our sincere condolences to the bereaved family. May the soul of Fr Melwin J Pinto, SJ, rest in peace.
Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, born on 31 December 1963 in the Bendore/Kadri area of Mangaluru, had his schooling and college education at St Aloysius Mangaluru, and later joined the Society of Jesus (SJ) on 20 June 1981. His educational credentials are: MA (Eng), M.Ed. Diploma in Psychology and Counselling; Diploma in School Administration. Ordained as a Jesuit priest on 14 April 1997, Fr Melwin worked as- Headmaster, St Joseph’s Primary School, Hassan, 1996-97; Headmaster, St Joseph’s High School, Hassan, 1998 – 99; Principal, St Joseph’s Indian Composite PU College, B’lore, 1999 – 2007 (Founder Principal of St Joseph’s Indian PU College); Headmaster, St Aloysius High School, Mangalore 2007 – 2011; Principal, St Joseph’s PU College, Hassan 2011-12 and Section Head, English Desk for Asia and Indian languages, at Vatican Communications & Radio, Rome. February 2012 – April 2017
Fr Melwin was the Superior and Director, Fatima Retreat House, Valencia- Mangaluru, from May 2017 to May 2019. He served as Superior of South Indian Common Jesuit Juniorate, Trivandrum, May 2019, until recently appointed as Superior, Vidyaniketan, Jesuit Study Home, Dharwad, before this new appointment in Mangaluru was offered to Him. Fr Melwin’s hobbies include Counselling, Spiritual Direction, Directing Ignatian Retreats, and Seminars on Education, Leadership, Self-Esteem, and Soft Skills, among others. Presently being the Superior of Vidyaniketan, Jesuit Study Home, Dharwad.
Fr. Melwin J. Pinto was an extraordinary spiritual leader, widely respected for his unwavering commitment to meeting the spiritual needs of those around him. His compassionate nature shone through in his role as an educator, where he touched the lives of countless students with his empathetic and understanding approach. Fr. Pinto possessed a deep humanity, consistently displaying genuine concern for the less fortunate and those in need. His remarkable character and dedication to service made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
The profound sense of loss will be felt throughout the entire Jesuit community, the Religious, his students, people who knew him well, as well as among the students and faculty of St. Aloysius Institutions, who will miss his guiding presence.
