ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ, ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 10, 2026: ಬುಧವಾರ ಸಂಜೆ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ನಗರವು ಜನಸಾಗರದಿಂದ ಕಳೆಗಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ಸುಮಾರು 4,000 ನಾಗರಿಕರು – ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಪುರುಷರು, ಯುವಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಹಿರಿಯರು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಿಂದೂ, ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಶ್ಚಿಯನ್ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳ ಜನರು ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಸೇರಿದ್ದರು. ಇದು ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆಯಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೋಮು ಸೌಹಾರ್ದತೆಯ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಹಂಚಿಕೆಯ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.
‘ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಮಲ್ಟಿಪರ್ಪಸ್ ಸೋಶಿಯಲ್ ಸರ್ವಿಸ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ’ (SMSSS)ಯು ‘ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಸೌಹಾರ್ದ ಸಮಿತಿ’ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾನ ಮನಸ್ಕ ನಾಗರಿಕರ ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದ ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಶಾಂತಿ ರ್ಯಾಲಿಯು ನಗರದ ಹೃದಯಭಾಗದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಗಿತು. “ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಶಾಂತಿ, ಒಗ್ಗಟ್ಟು ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಬಾಳ್ವೆಯನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ” ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಬಲ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಇದು ಸಾರಿತು.
ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಭವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ವರಿಷ್ಠಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಶ್ರೀ ನಿಖಿಲ್ ಅವರು ರ್ಯಾಲಿಗೆ ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಸಭೆಯನ್ನುದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಶಾಂತಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮತ್ತು ಕೋಮು ಸೌಹಾರ್ದತೆಗಾಗಿ ಕಳೆದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಆಯೋಜಕರು ತೋರುತ್ತಿರುವ ನಿರಂತರ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯು ಈ ಉಪಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು ಮತ್ತು ತಳಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಂತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬಲಪಡಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಗರಿಕ ಸಮಾಜದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿತು.
ರ್ಯಾಲಿಯು ರಾಮಂ ಜೇಸ್ಟಿ ಪಾರ್ಕ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮಾಪ್ತಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಈ ರ್ಯಾಲಿಯ ಮಾರ್ಗವು ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಸಂಕೇತವೊಂದನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿತ್ತು: ಸಾಂವಿಧಾನಿಕ ಸಮಾನತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ನ್ಯಾಯದ ಸಂಕೇತವಾದ ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಭವನದಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗಿ, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನಾಗರಿಕರಿಗೆ ಮುಕ್ತವಾದ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸ್ಥಳದವರೆಗೆ ಇದು ಸಾಗಿತು.
ಈ ರ್ಯಾಲಿಯ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಅಂಶವೆಂದರೆ ವಿವಿಧ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆ. ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ಬಸವ ಮುರುಳಸಿದ್ಧ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀ ನೀಲಕಂಠ ಸ್ವಾಮೀಜಿ ಅವರು SMSSS ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಫಾದರ್ ಪಿಯಸ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ, ಯುವಜನ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಫಾದರ್ ಫ್ರಾಂಕ್ಲಿನ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ ಹಾಗೂ ಫಾದರ್ ಸಂತೋಷ್ ಪಿರೇರಾ, ಫಾದರ್ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಂ ಮತ್ತು ಫಾದರ್ ಗ್ಲಾನ್ಸನ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕಿದರು. ಧರ್ಮವು ವಿಭಜನೆಯ ಮೂಲವಾಗುವ ಬದಲು ಸ್ನೇಹ ಮತ್ತು ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯ ಸೇತುವೆಯಾಗಬಲ್ಲದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅವರ ಒಗ್ಗಟ್ಟಿನ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯು ಸಾಬೀತುಪಡಿಸಿತು.
ಮೌಲಾನಾ ಶಾಹುಲ್ ಹಮೀದ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಫ್ತಿ ಶಫಿಯುಲ್ಲಾ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಮುಖಂಡರು ಕೂಡ ರ್ಯಾಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡರು. ಒಗ್ಗಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕುವ ಮೂಲಕ, ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಾಗರಿಕರು ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಬಲ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ರವಾನಿಸಿದರು: ಕೋಮು ಸೌಹಾರ್ದತೆಯು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಗೌರವ, ಸಂವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

4,000 Reasons to Believe: Shimoga Walks Together, Writes Its Future in Unity
Shimoga, September 10, 2026: Shimoga came alive on Wednesday evening as nearly 4,000 citizens—women and men, young and old, and people belonging to Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities—came together not in protest, but in a shared commitment to peace and communal harmony.
The fourth annual Peace Rally, organised by the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society (SMSSS) in collaboration with the Shimoga Souharda Samiti and like-minded citizens of Shimoga, passed through the heart of the city with a powerful message: Shimoga chooses peace, unity and coexistence.
The rally was formally flagged off at Ambedkar Bhavan by the District Superintendent of Police, Mr. Nikhil. Addressing the gathering, he appreciated the organisers for their consistent four-year commitment to peace-building and communal harmony. His presence added significance to the initiative, highlighting the important role of civil society in strengthening peace and social cohesion at the grassroots level.
The rally concluded at Ramanjesti Park, with the route itself carrying a meaningful symbolism—from Ambedkar Bhavan, a landmark associated with constitutional equality and social justice, to a public space open to all citizens.
One of the most striking features of the rally was the participation of religious leaders from different faith traditions. Shri Shri Basava Murulasidda Swamiji and Shri Shri Neelakantha Swamiji walked alongside Fr. Pius D’Souza, Director of SMSSS; Fr. Franklin D’Souza, Youth Director; Fr. Santhosh Pereira; Fr. Abraham; and Fr. Glanson D’Souza. Their united presence demonstrated that faith can become a bridge of friendship and understanding rather than a source of division.
Muslim community leaders, including Moulana Shahul Hamid and Mufti Shafiulla, also participated in the rally. Walking together in solidarity, religious leaders and citizens sent a powerful message that communal harmony is built through mutual respect, dialogue and shared action.
Behind the rally is a broader civic vision expressed through the “Brand Shimoga” initiative. It seeks to collectively reshape the identity of the district—from one sometimes associated with communal tensions to a model of peaceful coexistence, social responsibility and development.
The initiative is spearheaded by Advocate K.P. Sripal, with coordinating leadership from Mr. Kiran of Open Mind School, Mr. Rafee and Mr. Jagadisha K.H. Their efforts reflect the growing role of civil society in shaping the future of Shimoga and ensuring that the district’s identity is defined not by its past challenges, but by its aspirations for peace and progress.
What began as a single initiative has now grown into an annual expression of the people’s commitment to harmony. With each passing year, the Peace Rally has gathered greater participation and stronger conviction, demonstrating that communal harmony is not simply the absence of conflict, but a conscious and continuous choice made by citizens.
SMSSS has played a significant role in bringing together diverse sections of society and contributing to the success of the rally. Its sustained efforts demonstrate how grassroots organisations can create meaningful platforms for dialogue, solidarity and peaceful coexistence.
The Peace Rally carried a message that reached far beyond the streets of Shimoga. Nearly 4,000 people walked together from Ambedkar Bhavan to Ramanjesti Park, showing that communities can come together to shape their own narrative; that youth, religious leaders, civil society and law enforcement can work towards a common vision; and that “Brand Shimoga” is not merely a slogan or campaign, but a living expression of unity.
The road to harmony does not build itself. Shimoga has once again shown that when people choose to walk together, they can build a future together.
