ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಪುರ; ಮಿಲಾಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಮಹಾತ್ಮ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರ ಜನ್ಮ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯ ಸ್ಮರಣಾರ್ಥ “ಗಾಂಧಿ ಶಾಂತಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸುವುದು” ಎಂಬ ವಿಷಯದ ಕುರಿತು ವಿಶೇಷ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿತ್ತು. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸೇವಾ ಯೋಜನೆ (ಎನ್ಎಸ್ಎಸ್) ಮತ್ತು ಐಕ್ಯೂಎಸಿ ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಏಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಹರಡಲು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯಗೊಳಿಸಿದ “ರಘುಪತಿ ರಾಘವ ರಾಜಾ ರಾಮ್” ಎಂಬ ಭಕ್ತಿಗೀತೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಪಿತರಾಗಿ ಅವರ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಗಣ್ಯರು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರ ಭಾವಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಪುಷ್ಪ ನಮನ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು.
ಮಿಲಾಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಸಹಾಯಕ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕ ಪ್ರೊ. ಡಾ. ಜಯರಾಮ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಗಾರ್ ಅವರು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರ ತತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಕುರಿತು ಚಿಂತನಶೀಲ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸ ನೀಡಿದರು, ಸತ್ಯ, ಅಹಿಂಸೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸರಳತೆಗೆ ಅವರ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಡಾ. ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಗಾರ್ ಸಮಕಾಲೀನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತತೆಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು. ಇತಿಹಾಸಕಾರ ಆರ್ನಾಲ್ಡ್ ಟಾಯ್ನ್ಬೀ ಅವರಿಂದ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಅವರು, ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರು ಯೇಸುಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಪಾಲಿಸಿದ ನಾಯಕ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಆದರ್ಶಗಳನ್ನು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಬುದ್ಧ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನ ತತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಜೋಡಿಸಿದರು ಎಂದು ಗಮನಿಸಿದರು, ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಅಹಿಂಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಮಾಡಿದರು.
ಡಾ. ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಗಾರ್ ಅವರು ಶಾಂತಿಗಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿದ ಚಕ್ರವರ್ತಿ ಅಶೋಕನ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಸಹ ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಹೋರಾಟವು ರಕ್ತಪಾತವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರ ಆದರ್ಶಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 2 ಅನ್ನು ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಅಹಿಂಸಾ ದಿನವೆಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಸಭಿಕರಿಗೆ ನೆನಪಿಸಿದರು.
ಈ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸವು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗಿ ನೋಡಲು ಮತ್ತು ಸರಳತೆ, ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ನೈತಿಕ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೂರಿರುವ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಿತು. ಉಪ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲೆ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸೋಫಿಯಾ ಡಯಾಸ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ ವಹಿಸಿ, ಪ್ರೊ. ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಗಾರ್ ಅವರ ವಾಗ್ಮಿತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಿ ಶೈಲಿಯನ್ನು ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀ ಆಸ್ತಿಕ್ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು, ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ರಕ್ಷಾ ಅವರು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರ ಸಂದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಪಡಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದರು.
ಮಿಲಾಗ್ರಿಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಡಾ. ವಿನ್ಸೆಂಟ್ ಆಳ್ವಾ ಅವರ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಗಣೇಶ್ ನಾಯಕ್ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಶುಭಲತಾ (ಎನ್ಎಸ್ಎಸ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು) ಮತ್ತು ಐಕ್ಯೂಎಸಿ ಸಂಯೋಜಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಶೈಲೆಟ್ ಮಥಿಯಾಸ್ ಅವರು ಜಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಿದರು. ಇಂದಿನ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾಂಧಿವಾದಿ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳ ಮಹತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ನವೀಕೃತ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಮುಕ್ತಾಯವಾಯಿತು.
Milagres College Celebrates Gandhi’s Legacy with Inspirational Lecture
Milagres College, Kallianpur, recently organized a special lecture program on the theme “Gandhi: Leading the World through Peace” to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The event, held under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in association with IQAC, began with the devotional hymn “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram”, a song popularized by Gandhiji to spread peace and unity. Dignitaries paid floral tributes to Gandhiji’s portrait, honoring his legacy as the Father of the Nation.
Prof. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, Adjunct Professor at Milagres College, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on Gandhiji’s philosophy, emphasizing his commitment to truth, non-violence, and simplicity. Dr. Shettigar highlighted the relevance of Gandhian values in contemporary times and encouraged students to incorporate them into their daily lives. Drawing inspiration from historian Arnold Toynbee, he noted that Gandhiji was a leader who fully lived by the teachings of Jesus Christ and linked his ideals with the philosophies of Lord Buddha and Christ, both of whom propagated non-violence.
Dr. Shettigar also narrated the example of Emperor Ashoka, who renounced war for peace, and underscored that India’s freedom struggle, led by Gandhiji, remained unique in gaining independence without bloodshed. He reminded the audience that the United Nations declared October 2nd as the International Day of Non-Violence in recognition of Gandhiji’s ideals.
The lecture inspired students to view Gandhiji as a role model and to lead lives rooted in simplicity, peace, and moral discipline. Vice Principal Mrs. Sophia Dias presided over the program, praising Prof. Shettigar’s eloquence and engaging presentation style. The event was compered by Mr. Astik, while Ms. Raksha presented Gandhiji’s messages and delivered the vote of thanks.
The program was jointly coordinated by Mr. Ganesh Nayak and Mrs. Shubhalatha (NSS Officers), along with Mrs. Shylet Mathias, IQAC Coordinator, under the guidance of Dr. Vincent Alva, Principal of Milagres College. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to Gandhian values and their significance in today’s world.
