ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಪುರ ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್; ಕೆಲವು ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ನಂತರದ ಕುರುಹಾಗಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟುಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇನ್ನು ಕೆಲವರು ನೆನಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ರೆವ್. ಫಾ. ಜಾನ್ ನೊರೊನ್ಹಾ ಅವರು ಇವೆರಡನ್ನೂ, ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮಿಗಿಲಾಗಿ, ದಯಾಳು ಹಾಗೂ ವಿನಮ್ರ ಹೃದಯದ ಆತ್ಮೀಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
2003 ರಿಂದ 2010 ರವರೆಗೆ ಸಂತೇಕಟ್ಟೆ-ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಪುರದ ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ರೆವ್. ಫಾ. ಜಾನ್ ನೊರೊನ್ಹಾ ಅವರಿಗೆ ನಾವು ತೀವ್ರ ದುಃಖ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃತಜ್ಞತಾ ಭಾವದೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಿದಾಯ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಜನರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅವರು ಕಳೆದ ಏಳು ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಈ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯವಾಗಿ ಉಳಿದಿವೆ.
ಫಾ. ಜಾನ್ ಸರಳತೆ, ವಿನಮ್ರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ನೈಜ ದಯಾಗುಣದ ಮೂರ್ತರೂಪವಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರ ಶಾಂತ ವರ್ತನೆ, ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಬೆರೆಯುವ ಸ್ವಭಾವ ಮತ್ತು ಜನರ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕಾಳಜಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ಸದಸ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಿಯರನ್ನಾಗಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಅವರು ಪ್ರಚಾರವನ್ನಾಗಲಿ ಅಥವಾ ಮನ್ನಣೆಯನ್ನಾಗಲಿ ಬಯಸಲಿಲ್ಲ; ಬದಲಾಗಿ, ಅವರು ಮೌನವಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು, ಜನರ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಆಲಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮಗುರುವಿನ ವಾತ್ಸಲ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಜನರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕಿದರು.
ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ:
ಇವರು 1944ರ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 2ರಂದು ಪಾಂಬೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಥಿಯಾಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಏಂಜಲಿನಾ ನೊರೊನ್ಹಾ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ಹಾಗೂ ದೇವಭಕ್ತ ಪುತ್ರನಾಗಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಸೆಮಿನರಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿ, 1969ರ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 3ರಂದು ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿ ದೀಕ್ಷೆ ಪಡೆದರು.
ಅಗ್ರಾರ್ (1969-71), ಕಿರೆಮ್ (1971-74) ಮತ್ತು ಮದ್ಯಂತರ್ (1974-76) ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯಕ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು.
ಕುಪ್ಪೆಪದವಿನಲ್ಲಿ (1976-82) ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರ ಉಪ್ಪಿನಂಗಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (1982-88) ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಸ ಚೈತನ್ಯ ತುಂಬಿದರು. ಕೊಲ್ಲಾಲ್ಗಿರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (1989-96) ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು 1996 ರಿಂದ 2003 ರವರೆಗೆ ರಾಣಿಪುರ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿ (ವಿಕಾರ್) ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ತಮ್ಮ ಸೇವೆಯ ಅಂತಿಮ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ 2010 ರವರೆಗೆ ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ, ದೇವರೆಂಬ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಿತೋಟದ ತೃಪ್ತ ನಿವೃತ್ತ ಸೇವಕರಾಗಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ‘ಫಾದರ್ ಝುಝೆ ವಾಸ್ ಹೋಮ್’ಗೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು.
ಹೊಸ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ಗಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿ:
ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿಯಲ್ಲಿನ ತಮ್ಮ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾನ್ ಒಂದು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಕನಸನ್ನು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದರು – ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ವಿಶಾಲವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಹೊಸ ಚರ್ಚ್ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾಗುವುದನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದು. ಈ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿಯು ಕೇವಲ ಭವ್ಯವಾದ ಕಟ್ಟಡದ ಆಸೆಯಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಲ್ಲ, ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್‌ನ ಅಗತ್ಯಗಳ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಅವರ ಆಳವಾದ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಮೂಡಿಬಂದಿತ್ತು.
2010 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿ ಮುಕ್ತಾಯಗೊಂಡರೂ, ಅವರ ನಿರ್ಗಮನದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆ ಕನಸು ಕೊನೆಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ಅವರ ನಂತರ ಬಂದ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಫಿಲಿಪ್ ನೇರಿ ಅರನ್ಹಾ (ಇವರು 2010 ರಿಂದ 2017 ರವರೆಗೆ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು) ಆ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಿದರು. ಆ ಕನಸು ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಇರುವ ಕಲಾತ್ಮಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಾರಗೊಂಡಿತು.
ಹೀಗಾಗಿ, ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಕೇವಲ ಆರಾಧನಾ ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ, ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾನ್ ಅವರ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ನಂತರ ಬಂದವರ ಸಮರ್ಪಿತ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳ ಮೂಕ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿದೆ. ಅವರು ಕಂಡ ಕನಸಿನ ಬೀಜವನ್ನು ಅವರ ಉತ್ತರಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಪೋಷಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗಿ ಅದು ಇಂದು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್‌ಗೆ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಭವ್ಯವಾದ ಚರ್ಚ್ ಆಗಿ ಅರಳಿತು.
ಶಾಲೆ — ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಕೊಡುಗೆ:
ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿಗೆ ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾನ್ ಅವರ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯು ಚರ್ಚ್‌ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಗೆ ಕಾರಣವಾದ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಯೋಜನೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಅವರು ನಿಕಟವಾಗಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
7 ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 2003 ರಂದು ಒಂದು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಮೈಲಿಗಲ್ಲು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತವಾಯಿತು; ಅವರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಅಡಿಗಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಹಾಕಲಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾದ ಈ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವು ಇಂದು ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದಿದೆ.
ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ, ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾನ್ ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿಯ ಭವಿಷ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಕೇತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಅಡಿಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಹಾಕಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿದರು.
ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ಮರಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವ ಧರ್ಮಗುರು:
ಇಂದು, ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಸಮುದಾಯವು ಅವರನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುವಾಗ, ಕೇವಲ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರ ಹಿಂದೆ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಆ ಧರ್ಮಗುರು — ಸರಳ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ, ವಿನಮ್ರ ಮನೋಭಾವ, ಮೃದು ಮಾತು ಮತ್ತು ದಯಾಳು ಹೃದಯದವರು.
ಒಂದು ಧರ್ಮಕೇಂದ್ರದ (ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್) ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಏಳು ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಬಹುಶಃ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಅವಧಿಯಂತೆ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಫಾದರ್ ಜಾನ್ ಆ ವರ್ಷಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ಧರ್ಮಪಾಲನೆಯ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಕುರಿತಾದ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ನಿಶ್ಯಬ್ದ ಸೇವೆ ‘ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ’ಯ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿವೆ.
ಧರ್ಮಕೇಂದ್ರದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಆರಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸುವಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಿಪಾಯ ಹಾಕಲಾದ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಲೆಮಾರುಗಳ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡುವಾಗ, ಅವರು ರೂಪಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರು ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಜನರ ಹೃದಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ನೆನಪು ಸದಾ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್, ಸಮುದಾಯ, ಧರ್ಮಕೇಂದ್ರದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು, ಹಿತೈಷಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಲ್ಲ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಪರವಾಗಿ, ಅವರ ಧರ್ಮಗುರು ಸೇವೆಯ ಹಾಗೂ ನಮ್ಮ ನಡುವೆ ಅವರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಗಾಗಿ ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಹೃತ್ಪೂರ್ವಕ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ.

Some priests leave behind buildings and institutions. Some leave behind memories. Rev. Fr. John Noronha left behind both — and, above all, the warmth of a kind and humble heart.
With deep sorrow and grateful remembrance, we bid farewell to Rev. Fr. John Noronha, who served as the Parish Priest of Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte–Kallianpur, from 2003 to 2010. His seven years among the people of Mount Rosary remain a cherished chapter in the history of the parish.
Fr. John was a priest of simplicity, humility and genuine kindness. His gentle manner, approachable nature and concern for people endeared him to parishioners. He did not seek prominence; instead, he quietly served, listened and accompanied his people with pastoral affection.
A brief background:
Born in Pamboor on 2nd April 1944, as a proud and devout son of Matthias and Anjelina Noronha. Joined St Joseph’s Seminary and ordained priest on 3rd December 1969.
Served as Assistant Priest in Agrar 1969 – 71, Kirem 1971 – 74, Madyantar 1974- 76.
As parish priest of Kuppeoadavu he rejuvenated religious life in 1976 – 82 and later in Uppinangadi 1982 to 1988. As parish priest of Kollalgiri his service in 1989 to 96 always remembered with gratitude by parishioners.
He served in Ranipura church as Vicar 1996 to 2003 and as the last leg of his service in our Mount Rosary till 2010, and moved to Fr Zuze Vas Home in Mangalore, as a contended retired priest in His Vineyard…..
A Vision for a New Church:
During his tenure at Mount Rosary, Fr. John nurtured a significant dream — to see a spacious and beautiful new church rise for the growing parish community. It was a vision born not merely from a desire for a magnificent structure, but from his understanding of the needs of a vibrant and expanding parish.
Although his tenure came to an end in 2010, his dream did not end with his departure.
His successor, Rev. Fr. Philip Neri Aranha, who served as Parish Priest from 2010 to 2017, carried the vision forward. That dream eventually took concrete shape in the form of the present artistic and beautiful Mount Rosary Church.
Thus, the present church stands not only as a place of worship, but also as a silent testimony to the vision of Fr. John and the dedicated efforts of those who followed him. The seed he envisioned was nurtured by his successors and eventually blossomed into the magnificent church the parish enjoys today.
The School — Another Lasting Legacy:
Fr. John’s contribution to Mount Rosary extends beyond the church. He was also closely associated with the vision and planning that led to the establishment of the Mount Rosary English Medium High School.
A significant milestone came on 7 October 2003, when the foundation stone of the school was laid during his tenure. What began as a vision for providing quality education to the children of the parish and surrounding community has grown into an important educational institution.
In this way, Fr. John helped lay foundations — both literally and figuratively — for the future of Mount Rosary.
A Shepherd Remembered with Gratitude:
Today, as the Mount Rosary community remembers him, it is not merely the projects and plans that come to mind. It is the priest behind them — simple in lifestyle, humble in spirit, gentle in words and kind at heart.
Seven years may seem a short chapter in the long history of a parish, but Fr. John made those years meaningful. His pastoral presence, his vision for the future and his quiet service became part of the story of Mount Rosary.
As the parish continues to worship in its beautiful church and as generations of children pass through the school whose foundation was laid during his tenure, his memory will continue to live on in places he helped envision and in the hearts of people he served.
On behalf of Mount Rosary Church, community, parishioners, well-wishers and all those who had the privilege of knowing him, we offer our heartfelt gratitude for his priestly service and his loving presence among us.
Farewell, dear Fr. John.
You came as a shepherd, served with humility, dreamed with faith and quietly planted seeds for the future. He breathed his last today 1st October 2026, at ripe 82.
He will be laid to rest on Monday 5th October 2026 Velencia Church, Mangalore.
May the Lord whom you served so faithfully welcome you into His eternal embrace, and may your soul rest in the peace of Christ.
