ಹಳೆಯ ಕೃಷಿ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪುನರುಜ್ಜೀವನಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಆಚರಿಸುವ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಕ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಂತೆಕಟ್ಟೆ-ಕಲ್ಲಿಯನ್ಪುರದ ಮೌಂಟ್ ರೋಸರಿ ಚರ್ಚ್ನ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಸಂಘಟನ್, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ತನ್ನ ಸೃಜನಶೀಲ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿ ಭತ್ತದ ನಾಟಿ (‘ರೊಂಫ್’) ಮಾಡಿದರು
ಜೂನ್ 14, 2026 ರ ಭಾನುವಾರ, ಉದ್ಯಾವರ ಬಳಿಯ ಸಂಪಿಗೆ ನಗರದ ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ ಭತ್ತದ ಗದ್ದೆಗಳು ಅಪರೂಪದ ಮತ್ತು ಹಳೆಯ ನೋಟದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಜೀವಂತವಾದವು – ನಾಟಿಯ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ, ಎಳೆಯ ಭತ್ತದ ಸಸಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡುವುದು.
ಮಾನ್ಸೂನ್ ಮಳೆ ಹಿಂಜರಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ಜೂನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಆಧುನಿಕ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿಯು ಕೃಷಿಯಿಂದ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಈ ಉಪಕ್ರಮವು ಭೂಮಿಯೊಂದಿಗಿನ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಆಳವಾದ ಬೇರೂರಿರುವ ಸಂಪರ್ಕದ ಪ್ರಬಲ ಜ್ಞಾಪನೆಯಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿತು.
ಏಕತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ಸಾಹದ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಸಂಘಟನೇಯ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿದರು, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಉಡುಪನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿ, ಗೆದ್ದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕಿದರು.. ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೋಮಲ ಭತ್ತದ ಸಸಿಗಳ ಬುಟ್ಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಂಡು, ಅವರು ಲಯಬದ್ಧ ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯದಿಂದ ಚಲಿಸಿದರು, ನಾಟಿಯ ಋತುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಾಮಾಂತರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಧ್ವನಿಸುವ ಭಾವಪೂರ್ಣ ಜಾನಪದ ಗೀತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿದರು. ಸಂತೋಷ ಮತ್ತು ಸೌಹಾರ್ದತೆಯಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ ಅವರ ಧ್ವನಿಗಳು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸುವುದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದ ನೆನಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿದವು.
ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರ ಅಚ್ಚುಕಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಲಾದ ಸಾಲುಗಳು ನಾಲ್ಕೈದು ದಶಕಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸುವ ಎದ್ದುಕಾಣುವ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದವು – ಕೃಷಿ ಕೇವಲ ವೃತ್ತಿಯಾಗಿರದೆ ಜೀವನ ವಿಧಾನವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸಮಯ. ಗದ್ದೆಗಳ ಉಳುಮೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಎಮ್ಮೆಗಳ ಪರಿಚಿತ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಶ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ಹಂಚಿಕೆಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶದ ಮನೋಭಾವವು ತುಂಬಾ ಜೀವಂತವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
ಈ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಉಪಕ್ರಮವು ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಫಾದರ್ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಡಾ. ರೋಕ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಅವರ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಬಲಗೊಂಡಿತು, ಅವರು ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಸಾಧಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳನ್ನು ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ಮಾತುಗಳು ಶ್ರಮದ ಘನತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಷಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವಿಸುವ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಬಲಪಡಿಸಿದವು.
ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹವಾಗಿದೆ. ಮಹೋತ್ಸವ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಜಿಸಲಾದ 25 ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿರುವ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿನ ಈ ‘ರೊಂಫ್’ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವನ್ನು ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸುವ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವಾಗಿ ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ.
ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೆ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ನೊರೀನ್ ಲೂಯಿಸ್, ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಕರ್ನೆಲಿಯೊ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಸಮರ್ಪಿತ ಪದಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ಸಮರ್ಥ ನಾಯಕತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಮನ್ವಯ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು. ವಲಯದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೆ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಪ್ರಿಯಾ ಫುರ್ಟಾಡೊ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ತಂಡದ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆ ಈ ಪೂರ್ಣ ದಿನದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಬಲವನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಿತು.
ಕೇವಲ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ, ಈ ಉಪಕ್ರಮವು ಯುವ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಜೀವಂತ ಪಾಠವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿತು – ಒಬ್ಬರ ಬೇರುಗಳನ್ನು ಮರೆತು ಪ್ರಗತಿಗೆ ಬರಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ಜ್ಞಾಪನೆ. ಇದು ಕೃಷಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನವೀಕೃತ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವಾಗ ತಂಡದ ಕೆಲಸ, ಸ್ಥಿತಿಸ್ಥಾಪಕತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಗೌರವದ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸುಂದರವಾಗಿ ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿತು.
ವಾಸ್ತವವಾಗಿ, “ನಟ್ಟಿ” ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಕೇವಲ ಭತ್ತದ ಸಸಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೆಡುವುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲ; ಇದು ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದ ಬೀಜಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿತ್ತುವುದು, ಸಮುದಾಯ ಬಂಧಗಳನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂದಿನ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿ ನೀಡುವ ನೆನಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಯ್ಲು ಮಾಡುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.

In an inspiring effort to revive and celebrate age-old agrarian traditions, the Stree Sanghatan of Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte–Kallianpur, once again demonstrated its creative commitment to preserving cultural heritage and social values.
On Sunday, 14th June 2026, the serene paddy fields of Sampige Nagara near Udyavar came alive with a rare and nostalgic sight — the traditional practice of Natti, the transplantation of young rice seedlings.
At a time when monsoon showers have been hesitant, especially this year in June and modern lifestyles increasingly distant from agriculture, this initiative stood as a powerful reminder of the region’s deep-rooted connection with the land.
In a remarkable display of unity and enthusiasm, a large number of Stree Sanghatan women gathered, gracefully dressed in traditional village attire, ready to step into the muddy fields. Carrying baskets of tender rice seedlings on their heads, they moved in rhythmic harmony, singing soulful folk songs that once echoed across the countryside during planting seasons. Their voices, filled with joy and camaraderie, not only encouraged one another but also rekindled memories of a bygone era.
The neatly aligned rows of participants working together painted a vivid picture reminiscent of rural life four to five decades ago — a time when agriculture was not merely a profession but a way of life. Though the familiar sight of buffaloes ploughing the fields was absent, the spirit of collective labour and shared purpose was very much alive.
This meaningful initiative was further strengthened by the presence and encouragement of the Parish Priest, Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza, who appreciated the efforts of the women in reconnecting with a once-thriving occupation of the district. His words reinforced the importance of remembering and honouring the dignity of labour and the cultural identity tied to cultivation.
It is particularly noteworthy that this event forms part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Stree Sanghatan in the Udupi Diocese. As one of the 25 programmes planned for the jubilee year, this ‘Natti’ or ‘Romph’ in Konkani stands out as a unique and impactful endeavour that blends tradition with community participation.
Under the able leadership of President Ms. Noreen Lewis, Secretary Ms. Carnelio, and other dedicated office bearers, the programme was conducted with great coordination and zeal. The active involvement of Deanery President Ms. Priya Furtado and her team added further strength to this full-day event.
More than just a cultural activity, this initiative served as a living lesson for younger generations — a reminder that progress should not come at the cost of forgetting one’s roots. It beautifully highlighted the values of teamwork, resilience, and respect for labour, while fostering a renewed appreciation for agriculture.
Indeed, the “Natti” programme was not merely about planting rice seedlings; it was about sowing seeds of tradition, nurturing community bonds, and harvesting memories that will inspire generations to come.
