ಉಡುಪಿ, ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 20: ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯ, ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತವಾದ ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಬಿಷಪ್ ಆಗಿ ಮೊನ್ಸಿ. ಡಾ. ಲೆಸ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಲಿಫರ್ಡ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಇವರಿಗೆ ದಿಕ್ಷಾಭೀಷೆಕ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 20 ರಂದು ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಪೋಷಕಿ ಮಿಲಾರ್ ಮಾತೆ, ಕ್ಯಾಥೆಡ್ರನಲ್ಲಿನ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣಪುರ ಮಿಲಾಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್ ಉನ್ನತ್ತ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು ದಿಕ್ಷಾಭೀಷೆಕ ನೇರವೇರಿಸಿದರು.
ಆಳವಾದ ಭಕ್ತಿಪೂರ್ವಕ ಬಲಿದಾನದ ಆಚರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ನಡೆಯಿತು.
ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣಕಾರರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಗೋವಾ ಮತ್ತು ದಮನ್ ಆರ್ಚ್ಬಿಷಪ್ ಮತ್ತು FABC ಮತ್ತು CCBI ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಫಿಲಿಪ್ ನೆರಿ ಕಾರ್ಡಿನಲ್ ಫೆರಾವೊ ಅವರು ಎಪಿಸ್ಕೋಪಲ್ ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣವನ್ನು ಪ್ರದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಆರ್ಚ್ಬಿಷಪ್ ಡಾ. ಪೀಟರ್ ಮಚಾದೊ ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಪಿ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್ನ ಅಪೋಸ್ಟೋಲಿಕ್ ಆಡಳಿತಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಡಾ. ಜೆರಾಲ್ಡ್ ಐಸಾಕ್ ಲೋಬೊ ಅವರು ಸಹ ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣಕಾರರಾಗಿ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡರು, ಭಾರತ ಮತ್ತು ನೇಪಾಳದ ಅಪೋಸ್ಟೋಲಿಕ್ ನೂನ್ಸಿಯೊ ಆರ್ಚ್ಬಿಷಪ್ ಲಿಯೋಪೋಲ್ಡೊ ಗಿರೆಲ್ಲಿ,ಮತ್ತು 35 ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬಿಷಪ್ಗಳು, 250 ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು, ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಧರ್ಮಭಗಿನಿಯರು, 6,000 ನಿಷ್ಠಾವಂತರು ಈ ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲನೇ ಭಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಬಿಷಪ್ ದಿಕ್ಷಾಭೀಷೆಕ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾದರು.
ಜನವರಿ 31 ರಂದು ಪೋಪ್ ಲಿಯೋ XIV ಅವರಿಂದ ನೇಮಕಗೊಂಡ ಮೊನ್ಸಿ. ಡಾ. ಲೆಸ್ಲೀ ಕ್ಲಿಫರ್ಡ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಅವರು ಉಡುಪಿ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್ನ ಎರಡನೇ ಬಿಷಪ ಆದರು, ಇದು 2012 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾದಾಗಿನಿಂದ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್ನ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಮೈಲಿಗಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತಿದೆ.
ದೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ವಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಪ್ ನೇಮಕ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪತ್ರವನ್ನು ಔಪಚಾರಿಕವಾಗಿ ಬಿಷಪ್ ಡಾ. ಲೆಸ್ಲೀ ಕ್ಲಿಫರ್ಡ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಅವರನ್ನು ನೇಮಕ ಮಾಡುವ ಘೋಷಣೆಯನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿತ್ತು, ಇದನ್ನು ಕುಲಪತಿ ಅ।ವಂ।ಸ್ಟೀಪನ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ, ವ।ರೆಜಿನಾಲ್ಡ್ ಪಿಂಟೊ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟತರು. ನಂತರ ಎಪಿಸ್ಕೋಪಲ್ ಪವಿತ್ರೀಕರಣದ ಗಂಭೀರ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ವಿಧಿಗಳು ನಡೆದವು. ಈ ಆಚರಣೆಯು ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದ ನಿಷ್ಠಾವಂತರಿಂದ ಆಳವಾದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂತೋಷದಾಯಕ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆಯ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳಿಂದ ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು.
ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಬಿಷಪ್ ಡಾ. ಪೀಟರ್ ಪೌಲ್ ಸಲ್ಡಾನಾ ತಮ್ಮ ಧರ್ಮೋಪದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ, “ತಂದೆಯ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದಗಳು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯವಾದವು. ಇಂದು ಅನೇಕ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ತಂದೆಯ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿಯೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ದೇವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸರ್ವಶಕ್ತ ತಂದೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳಾಗಿ, ನಾವು ಬಿಷಪ್ಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಇಂದು, ಮೊನ್ಸಿ. ಲೆಸ್ಲಿಯವರ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತೆವೆ, ಉಡುಪಿ ಡಯಾಸಿಸ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಗವಂತ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಯನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಬಿಷಪ್ ನಂಬಿಕಸ್ಥರಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರ ವಾಕ್ಯದ ಬೀಜಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿತ್ತಬೇಕು. ಒಬ್ಬ ಬಿಷಪ್ ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಬೇಕು. ತನ್ನ ಆಯ್ಕೆಮಾಡಿದ ಜನರನ್ನು ಮೇಯಿಸಲು ಕರ್ತನು ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಆದ್ಯತೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಸುವಾರ್ತೆಯ ಘೋಷಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿವರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ದೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ವಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚುನಾಯಿತರ ವಾಗ್ದಾನ, ಪವಿತ್ರಾತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ತೋತ್ರ, ಬಿಷಪ್ಗಳು ಚುನಾಯಿತರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೈ ಯಿಟ್ಟು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುವುದು, ದೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ, ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯ ಅಭಿಷೇಕ, ಪವಿತ್ರ ಗ್ರಂಥದ ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರ, ಉಂಗುರ ತೋಡಿಸುವುದು ಪಾಲನೇಯ ಗುರುತಾಗಿ ದಂಡಕೋಲು ಹಸ್ತಾಂತರಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ನಡೆದವು
ಶಾಂತಿಯ ಸಂಕೇತವನ್ನು ಮುಖ್ಯ ದೀಕ್ಷೆ ನೀಡುವವರು, ಸಹಾಯಕ ದೀಕ್ಷೆ ನೀಡುವವರು, ಇತರ ಬಿಷಪ್ಗಳು, ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರ ಸಮಿತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳು ವಿನಿಮಯ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರು.
ಗಾಯಕರ ನೇತೃತ್ವವನ್ನು ಫಾದರ್ ಆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಸಿಕ್ವೇರಾ ಮತ್ತು ಫಾದರ್ ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ ಕಾರ್ಡೋಜಾ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮತ್ತು ಯೂಕರಿಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಫಾದರ್ ವಿಲ್ಸನ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ ಸಮಾರಂಭವನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದರು. ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯ್ದ ಜ್ಯೂಡಿಸೀಯಲ್ ವಿಕಾರ್ ವಂ।ರೋಶನ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ ವಂದಿಸಿದರು.

Udupi/Kallianpur: Soon after the lengthy religious ceremonies, a solemn and joyous Public Felicitation Programme was held on 20th April 2026 to honour the newly ordained Bishop of the Diocese of Udupi, Rt. Rev. Dr. Leslie Clifford D’Souza.
The event was marked by deep faith, gratitude, and celebration, bringing together clergy, religious, and the faithful in large number above 6000.
The programme commenced with a graceful prayer dance by Mrs. Vidya Martis and her team, setting a prayerful tone for the gathering. The dignitaries were then ceremoniously escorted to the dais, symbolizing unity and reverence.
Rev. Mcng Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves warmly welcomed the august gathering, highlighting the historic significance of the occasion for the young Diocese of Udupi. In his address, he expressed confidence that the new Bishop would shepherd the faithful with wisdom, humility, and pastoral zeal.
A moment of honour followed with the felicitation of the Apostolic Nuncio, who was honoured with the draping of a traditional shawl. He was profusely thanked for his dedicated five-year tenure and diplomatic service in India, and the gathering wished him God’s blessings and success as he proceeds to his new mission in Croatia.
In his message, he conveyed the blessings and greetings of the Holy Father, emphasizing that a Bishop is called not to be served, but to serve, and encouraged Bishop Leslie to be a compassionate shepherd, rooted in prayer and close to his people.
His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao was also honoured on this occasion with a traditional shawl, memento, and bouquet as a mark of love and respect. In his inspiring message, the Cardinal reflected on the responsibility entrusted to a Bishop as a successor of the Apostles. He noted that Bishop Leslie’s rich academic background, pastoral experience, and simplicity of life would guide the Diocese towards spiritual growth and unity.
The Diocese of Udupi then formally felicitated Bishop Leslie Clifford D’Souza. In his heartfelt address, the Bishop expressed profound gratitude to God, his family, his mentors, and the faithful. He humbly acknowledged the challenges ahead but affirmed his trust in divine providence. “I come not with my strength,” he said, “but with faith in the Lord who calls and sustains. Together, let us build a Church rooted in love, service, and truth.”
A touching moment followed as family representatives extended their felicitation, accompanied by a melodious choir presentation, reflecting joy and pride.
The gathering also honoured Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Machado.
In his address, Bishop Machado spoke highly of the retiring Bishop Emeritus, Rt. Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, appreciating his exemplary service and immense contribution both in the Diocese of Shimoga and in nurturing the Infant Diocese of Udupi for over 13 years and 6 months. He described Bishop Gerald Lobo as a visionary shepherd whose dedication laid a strong foundation for the growth of the Diocese.
A deeply emotional segment of the programme was the expression of gratitude to the retiring Bishop Emeritus, Rt. Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo.
Speakers recalled his tireless service, visionary leadership, and fatherly care since the inception of the Diocese. Cardinal Ferrao, Bishop Machado, and Bishop Leslie together felicitated Bishop Gerald Lobo, marking a moment filled with reverence and affection.
In his address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo reflected with humility on his journey, thanking the clergy, religious, and laity for their unwavering support. He urged all to extend wholehearted cooperation to the new Bishop, stating, “The Diocese is in safe and capable hands. Continue to walk together in faith and unity.”
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of shawls and mementos to the all attending Bishop’s donors and dignitaries, followed by a sincere vote of thanks proposed by Rev. Dr. Roshan D’Souza, who acknowledged the efforts of all who contributed to the success of the event.
The programme ended with grace before meals and announcement of lunch arrangements, leaving behind a deep sense of gratitude and renewed hope for the future of the Diocese of Udupi.
