ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ 13, 2026: ಸೆಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯವು ತನ್ನ ಮೊಟ್ಟಮೊದಲ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯಾದ “ರೂಟ್ಸ್ ಟು ವಿಂಗ್ಸ್” ಅನ್ನು ಶುಕ್ರವಾರದಂದು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಪರಿವರ್ತಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುವ ಈ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿ, ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಗಣ್ಯರು ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನ ಪಡೆದವರನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸಿದರು. ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದ ಮರ್ಕ್ ಕೆಜಿಎಎ (Merck KGaA) ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಆರ್ ಅಂಡ್ ಡಿ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರಾದ ಡಾ. ಮಾರ್ಕಸ್ ಓಬ್ಕಿರ್ಚರ್ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಯೂ ಕಠಿಣ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ತ್ಯಾಗದ ಪ್ರತೀಕವಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಿದರು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನವು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಮೇಲಿಟ್ಟಿರುವ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆಯಿಂದ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಅವರು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಕುಲಾಧಿಪತಿಗಳಾದ ರೆ. ಫಾದರ್ ಡಯೋನಿಶಿಯಸ್ ವಾಜ್ ಅವರು ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೀಯ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿ, ಮೌಲ್ಯಾಧಾರಿತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಮೂಲಕ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯುತ ನಾಗರಿಕರನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುವುದು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಧ್ಯೇಯವೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಕುಲಪತಿಗಳಾದ ಡಾ. ಫಾದರ್ ವಿಕ್ಟರ್ ಲೋಬೋ ಅವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸಿ, ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಲು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಸಂಚಾಲಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಣಕಾಸು ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಾದ ಫಾದರ್ ಅರುಣ್ ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ ಅವರು ವಂದನಾರ್ಪಣೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದೊಂದಿಗೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ವಿಕಸನಕ್ಕೂ ಒತ್ತು ನೀಡುವ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಪುನರುಚ್ಚರಿಸಿತು.
ಈ ವಿಶೇಷ ದಿನದಂದು ವಿವಿಧ ವರ್ಗಗಳ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಟ್ಟು 4,50,00,000 ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳ ಬೃಹತ್ ಮೊತ್ತದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನವನ್ನು ಮಂಜೂರು ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ನೆರವಿನ (Economic Assistance) ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 1,290 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ 2,54,20,550 ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆಯ (Academic Excellence) ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 760 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ 1,80,79,450 ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, 50 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ 15,00,000 ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳ ಮ್ಯಾಜಿಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶೇಷ (MAGIS & SPECIAL) ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನವನ್ನು ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆಯಾಗಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯಿಂದ 2,100 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಪ್ರಯೋಜನ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Bengaluru, February 13, 2026: St Joseph’s University hosted “Roots to Wings”, the first Scholarship Day of the University, at the SJU Main Auditorium on Friday, celebrating academic excellence and the transformative power of education. The event brought together administrators, faculty, students, and distinguished guests to honour scholarship recipients and reaffirm the institution’s commitment to holistic development.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Markus Obkircher, Director and Head of Customer Solutions R&D (Chemistry) at Merck KGaA, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that each student represents “hard work and sacrifice.” He described scholarships as a trust and investment in students, encouraging them to build a future guided by intelligence and integrity. He further noted that education extends beyond knowledge acquisition to the cultivation of character and values.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz, the university’s Chancellor, who highlighted the institution’s mission of nurturing socially responsible citizens through value-based education. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr Fr. Victor Lobo, also addressed the audience, congratulating the scholarship awardees and urging them to make the most of their opportunities to contribute meaningfully to society.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Fr. Arun Prashanth D’Souza, Finance Officer and Convenor, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, organisers, and students for making the programme a success.
The “Roots to Wings” Scholarship Day reaffirmed the university’s dedication to empowering students in Bengaluru through education that blends academic excellence with character formation.
For the “Roots to Wings” Scholarship Day at St Joseph’s University, a significant amount of financial support was sanctioned across various categories. The Economic Assistance Scholarship reached the largest group, supporting 1,290 students with a total of 2,54,20,550. This was followed by the Academic Excellence Scholarship, which was awarded to 760 students, totaling 1,80,79,450. Additionally, the MAGIS & SPECIAL Scholarship provided 15,00,000 to 50 students. In total, the university sanctioned 4,50,00,000 to benefit 2,100 students.
