ಮಂಗಳೂರು; ಫ್ಲಾರೆನ್ಸ್ ನೈಟಿಂಗೇಲ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾದ “ದೀಪ ಪ್ರಜ್ವಲನ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ವಚನ ಸಮಾರಂಭ” ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ನರ್ಸ್ನ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶುಭಕರ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಹತ್ವಪೂರ್ಣ ಸಂದರ್ಭವಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೊಟ್ಟಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಯೂನಿಫಾರ್ಮ್ ಧರಿಸಿದ ನವೀನ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿಯರು, ಈ ಸಮಾರಂಭದ ಮೂಲಕ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವೃತ್ತಿಗೆ ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಅಥೇನಾ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಹೆಲ್ತ್ ಸೈನ್ಸ್ನ ಜಿಎನ್ಎಂ 23ನೇ ಬ್ಯಾಚ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಬಿ.ಎಸ್ಸಿ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ 22ನೇ ಬ್ಯಾಚ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ದೀಪ ಪ್ರಜ್ವಲನ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ವಚನ ಸಮಾರಂಭವು 10 ಜನವರಿ 2026ರಂದು ಅಥೇನಾ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಆಡಿಯಟೋರಿಯಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಭವ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಗೌರವಪೂರ್ಣ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆರಂಭಗೊಂಡು ಸಮಾರಂಭಕ್ಕೆ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಮತ್ತು ಘನತೆಯ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು. ನಂತರ ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಸೆಮಿಸ್ಟರ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನಾ ಗೀತೆ ಹಾಡಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ತಮ್ಮ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ದೈವಿಕ ಆಶೀರ್ವಾದವನ್ನು ಕೋರಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಈ ಸಮಾರಂಭಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಫಾದರ್ ಮುಲ್ಲರ್ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯ ಮುಖ್ಯ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ ಸಿಸ್ಟರ್ ನ್ಯಾನ್ಸಿ ಪ್ರಿಯಾ ಮತಾಯಾಸ್ ಅವರು ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾ. ಆಶಿತ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ (ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜಿಂಗ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟಿ), ಡಾ. ನಿಶಿತಾ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ (ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ), ಪ್ರೊ. ಸಿಸ್ಟರ್ ದೀಪಾ ಪೀಟರ್ (ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು, ಅಥೇನಾ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಆಫ್ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್), ಡಾ. ನಂದಿನಿ ಎಂ. (ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು, ಅಥೇನಾ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಅಲೈಡ್ ಹೆಲ್ತ್ ಸೈನ್ಸಸ್), ಪ್ರೊ. ಸುನೀತಾ ಲೋಬೋ (ಉಪ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು), ಮಿಸೆಸ್ ಜೆನಿವೀವ್ ಸೆರಾವೊ (ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರು) ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಬ್ಯಾಚ್ಗಳ ಸಂಯೋಜಕರು ವೇದಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು.
ಮಿಸೆಸ್ ಲೋರಾ ಪೈಸ್ ಅವರು ಸ್ವಾಗತ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ನಂತರ ಗಣ್ಯರು ದೀಪವನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಪಿತಾಮಹಿ ಫ್ಲಾರೆನ್ಸ್ ನೈಟಿಂಗೇಲ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ದಿವಂಗತ ಶ್ರೀ ಆರ್. ಎಸ್. ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪುಷ್ಪಾರ್ಚನೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಗೌರವ ನಮನ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.ಉಪ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಸುನೀತಾ ಲೋಬೋ ಅವರು ದಿನದ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುವ ಸೇವೆ, ಶಿಸ್ತು, ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ನೈತಿಕತೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಹೃದಯಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿ ಕ್ಷಣವೆಂದರೆ, ಗಣ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ 140 ನವೀನ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ದೀಪಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಿಸಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಭವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇದು ಜ್ಞಾನ, ವಿವೇಕ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯ ಪ್ರತೀಕವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ನಂತರ ಪ್ರೊ. ಸಿಸ್ಟರ್ ದೀಪಾ ಪೀಟರ್ ಅವರಿಂದ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ವಚನ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಪ್ರಮಾಣ ವಚನದ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ನೈತಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು, ಮಾನವ ಗೌರವ ಹಾಗೂ ರೋಗಿ ಸೇವೆಯತ್ತ ತಮ್ಮ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಪುನರುಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದರು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಸಮರ್ಪಣಾ ಗೀತೆ ಸಮಾರಂಭಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣತೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು.
ಸಭೆಯನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿ ಸಿಸ್ಟರ್ ನ್ಯಾನ್ಸಿ ಪ್ರಿಯಾ ಮತಾಯಸ್ ಅವರು, ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸೇವಾ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನರ್ಸುಗಳ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿ, ವೃತ್ತಿಪರತೆ, ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ನಿರಂತರ ಕಲಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸುವಂತೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಗಿಸಿದ ದೀಪವು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಬೆಂಕಿಯಲ್ಲ, ಬದಲಾಗಿ ನರ್ಸುಗಳ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶಿಸುವ ಆಂತರಿಕ ಬೆಳಕಿನ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ಬೆಳಕು ನೋವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಂತ್ವನ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಷ್ಟದ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆಗೆ ಬಲ ತುಂಬುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದರು.
ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೀಯ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜಿಂಗ್ ಟ್ರಸ್ಟಿಯಾದ ಡಾ. ಆಶಿತ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ ಅವರು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆಯ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನವನ್ನು ಪುನರುಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದರು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮಾನವತೆಗೆ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಬದ್ಧತೆ, ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿಯನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು. ದೀಪ ಪ್ರಜ್ವಲನವು ಅಜ್ಞಾನ ಮೇಲಿನ ಜ್ಞಾನ, ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ ಮೇಲಿನ ಸೇವೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ಲಕ್ಷ್ಯದ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕರುಣೆಯ ವಿಜಯವನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ ಮತ್ತು ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸುವ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರವೊಂದನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಮಿಸೆಸ್ ಪ್ರಿಯಾ ಕಾರ್ನೆಲಿಯೋ ಅವರು ವಂದನಾ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯನ್ನು ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾದ ಮಿಸ್ ಜೆನಿವಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮಿಸ್ ಅಲೀನಾ ಬಿನು ಅವರು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಗೀತೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮುಕ್ತಾಯಗೊಂಡು, ನಂತರ ಉಪಹಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಪಿಟಿಎ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಯಿತು.

Mangalore; “Lamp Lighting & Oath Taking Ceremony” held as a tribute to Florence Nightingale, is an auspicious occasion in every nurse’s life. The budding nurse’s, adorned in their uniforms for the first time, formally marks the students entry into the nursing profession.
“Lamp Lighting & Oath Taking Ceremony” for 23rd batch of GNM and 22nd batch of B.Sc nursing students of Athena Institute of Health Science was held on 10th January 2026 in Athena College Auditorium.
The programme began with a graceful procession, setting a dignified tone for the event. This followed by prayer song led by 2nd semester students, invoking divine blessings for the students as they embark on their professional journey.
The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Chief Guest Sr Nancy Priya Mathias, Chief Nursing Officer, Father Muller Medical College Hospital,
Dr Ashith Shettian, Managing Trustee, Dr,Nishitha Shettian Secretary, Prof Sr. Deepa Peter Principal, Athena College of Nursing, Dr. Nandini M, Principal of Athena Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Prof Sunitha Lobo Vice Principal, Mrs. Genevive Serrao, HOD of Nursing Foundation department and the coordinators of respective batch shared the dais.
Mrs. Lora Pais delivered the welcome address, followed by the dignitaries lighted the traditional lamp and inaugurated the programme. As a sign of honor and respect to the pioneer of nursing profession, the dignitaries paid a floral tribute to Ms. Florence Nightingale and the founder of the institution late
Mr. R S Shettian.
Prof Sunitha Lobo, Vice Principal elaborated on the significance of the day, emphasizing the ideals of service, discipline, compassion, and professional integrity that define the nursing vocation.
A poignant moment of the ceremony was the lighting of the lamps by the students, led by the dignitaries and faculty lit the lamps of 140 novice nursing students which symbolize wisdom, knowledge and compassion towards mankind, followed by recitation of oath, where students pledge themselves to uphold the duties of a professional nurse administered by Prof Sr. Deepa Peter Principal, marked a defining moment to uphold ethical standards, human dignity, and commitment to patient care. The atmosphere was further enriched by a song of dedication, reflecting the students’ readiness to serve humanity with devotion.
Addressing the gathering, Sr. Nancy Priya Mathias inspired the students by highlighting the vital role of nurses in the health care system and encouraged them to uphold professionalism, empathy, and lifelong learning. She also encouraged the students by explaining that the lamp lit during ceremony is not an ordinary fire, but a symbol of an inner glow that illuminates and guides nurses in their duty. She adds that this light comforts the suffering, strengthens helping hands during deep distress, and inspires students to uphold the noble values of the nursing profession.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Ashith Shettian , the Managing Trustee, highlighted on reiterating the institution’s vision of excellence in nursing education. He also adds on by encouraging the students, to serve humanity with commitment, integrity and empathy and the lighting the lamp symbolizing the victory of knowledge over ignorance, service over self and compassion over interface.
The Programme also featured a short film, showcasing the talents of the students and commitment to the nursing profession. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs Priya Carnelio The program was compered by faculty members Ms. Jeniva and Ms. Aleena Binu.
The programme concluded with the college anthem followed by refreshments and PTA meeting.
