One-Day National Seminar on “Barkur – Unforgettable Historic Capital of Tulunad”

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ತುಳು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯು, ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ರುಕ್ಮಿಣಿ ಶೆಡ್ತಿ ಸ್ಮಾರಕ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ದರ್ಜೆ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಕೇಂದ್ರ, ಬಾರ್ಕೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಆಂತರಿಕ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಭರವಸೆ ಕೋಶ (IQAC) ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ, “ಬಾರ್ಕೂರು – ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ಮರೆಯಲಾಗದ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ” ಕುರಿತು ಒಂದು ದಿನದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವಿಚಾರ ಸಂಕಿರಣವನ್ನು ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 20, 2025 ರ ಶನಿವಾರ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಎ.ವಿ. ಸಭಾಂಗಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿತ್ತು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ನಿಗದಿತ ಸಮಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ 30 ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ನಂತರ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 10.30 ಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾದರೂ, ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು, ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತಜ್ಞರು, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ವಿವಿಧ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳ ಗಣ್ಯರ ರೋಮಾಂಚಕ ಸಭೆಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಾಯಿತು.

ಈ ವಿಚಾರ ಸಂಕಿರಣವನ್ನು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ತುಳು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ತಾರಾನಾಥ್ ಗಟ್ಟಿ ಕಾಪಿಕಾಡ್ ಅವರು ಔಪಚಾರಿಕವಾಗಿ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರು ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಬಾರ್ಕೂರಿನ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ, ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ಭಾಷೆ, ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಲು ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ನಿರಂತರ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಊರು ಮತ್ತು ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತ ಮತ್ತು ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿಯುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಮೂಲ ಸ್ವರೂಪವನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಪುನಃಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಅವರು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು…

ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಪ್ರೊ. ಭಾಸ್ಕರ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಸಾಲ್ವಾದಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷತೆ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ ಮತ್ತು ಗರಿಗರಿಯಾದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷೀಯ ಭಾಷಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಬಾರ್ಕೂರಿನ ವೈಭವಯುತ ಭೂತಕಾಲವನ್ನು ಮರುಶೋಧಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ರವಾನಿಸಲು ಅಂತರಶಿಸ್ತೀಯ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿಕೆಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಅವರು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಬಾರ್ಕೂರಿನ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿದ್ವತ್ಪೂರ್ಣ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿದ ಗೋವಾ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಕಲಾ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕ ಮತ್ತು ಡೀನ್ ಪ್ರೊ. ನಾಗೇಂದ್ರ ರಾವ್ ಅವರು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾದ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಅವರು ಬಾರ್ಕೂರಿನ ರಾಜಕೀಯ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕಡಲ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲಿದರು, ‘ಬಾರ್ಕೂರಿನ ದಾನಿಗಳು’ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಶೋಧಕರನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ವಿಚಾರಣೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಅದರ ಗುಪ್ತ ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ಅನ್ವೇಷಿಸಲು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಬಾರ್ಕೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದುವರೆಗೆ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾದ ಶಾಸನಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿದರು.

ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂದಾರ್ತಿಯ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಫೀಡ್ಸ್ & ಫಾರ್ಮ್ಸ್‌ನ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಿಡಿಸಿ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೆ. ಮಹೇಶ್ ಉಡುಪ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು, ಅವರು ಸೆಮಿನಾರ್ ವಿಷಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ನಿರಂತರ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಐಕ್ಯೂಎಸಿ ಸಂಯೋಜಕಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಶೋಭಾ ಆರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸೆಮಿನಾರ್ ಸಂಚಾಲಕಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಅಮೃತಾ ಅವರು ದಿನದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಯೋಜಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಿದರು, ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅಧಿವೇಶನಗಳ ಸುಗಮ ನಡವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ತುಳು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ರಿಜಿಸ್ಟ್ರಾರ್ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಿಮಾ ಮತ್ತು ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಉದ್ಯಾವರ ನಾಗೇಶ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ಸ್ವಾಗತವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಕಾಲೇಜು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಮಿತಿ, ಪೋಷಕ-ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಸಂಘ, ಹಳೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಸಂಘ, ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಿಕೆಯು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಸಹಯೋಗದ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿತು.

ಚಿಂತನಶೀಲ ಅಧಿವೇಶನಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಂವಾದಾತ್ಮಕ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಈ ವಿಚಾರ ಸಂಕಿರಣವು, ತುಳುನಾಡಿನ ಮರೆಯಲಾಗದ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಾರ್ಕೂರಿನ ನಿರಂತರ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಮರುಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಲು ಒಂದು ಅಮೂಲ್ಯವಾದ ವೇದಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಮುದಾಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರನ್ನು ಅದರ ಒಳನೋಟಗಳಿಂದ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತಗೊಳಿಸಿತು.

ವೇಳಾಪಟ್ಟಿಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಇಂದು ನಂತರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಾದ್ಯಂತ ಕಲಿತ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಇತಿಹಾಸಕಾರರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮೂರು ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಗದಿಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

One-Day National Seminar on “Barkur – Unforgettable Historic Capital of Tulunad”

The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, in collaboration with Smt. Rukmini Shedthi Memorial National Government First Grade College and Post Graduate Study Centre, Barkur, and its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a One-Day National Seminar on “Barkur – Unforgettable Historic Capital of Tulunad” on Saturday, 20th September 2025, at the College A.V. Hall.

Though the programme commenced 30 minutes later than scheduled, at 10.30 am, the event witnessed a vibrant gathering of scholars, academicians, students, and dignitaries from various walks of life.

The Seminar was formally inaugurated by Sri Tharanath Gatti Kapikad, President of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy. In his address, he highlighted the rich cultural, historical, and literary heritage of Barkur, once celebrated as the capital of Tulunad, and emphasized the Academy’s continued commitment to preserving and promoting the language, traditions, and heritage of Tulunadu.
He also appealed to the students to cultivate the habit of learning the history of their hometown and the surroundings in a systematic and scientific manner and give their contribution to preserve and restore its original form…

Prof. Bhaskar Shetty Salvadi, Principal of the College, presided over the function. In his short and crispy presidential remarks, he underscored the importance of interdisciplinary research and academic engagement to rediscover Barkur’s glorious past and transmit it meaningfully to future generations.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Nagendra Rao, Professor and Dean of Arts, Goa University, who provided a scholarly perspective on the historical significance of Barkur. With well-documented references, he shed light on Barkur’s political, cultural, and maritime legacy, with a special reference to ‘Donors of Barkur’ and urging students and researchers to explore its hidden treasures through further academic inquiry and provided enough references through inscriptions so far unearthed in Barkur and surrounding.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Sri K. Mahesh Udupa, CDC Member and representative of Lakshmi Feeds & Farms, Mandarthi, who expressed his appreciation for the seminar theme and assured his continued support for the academic and cultural activities of the institution.

Smt. Shobha R, IQAC Co-ordinator, and Smt. Amrutha, Seminar Convener, also played key roles in planning and successfully executing the day’s programme, ensuring meaningful academic deliberations and smooth conduct of the sessions.

Smt. Poornima, Registrar, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, and Sri Udyhavara Nagesh Kumar, Member Secretary of the Academy, extended a warm welcome to all. The active participation of the College Development Committee, Parent-Teacher Association, Alumni Association, faculty members, and students made the event a truly collaborative effort.

The seminar, marked by thought-provoking sessions and interactive discussions, offered a valuable platform to revisit Barkur’s enduring legacy as an unforgettable historic capital of Tulunad, enriching both the academic community and the general public with its insights.
As per the schedule three more discussions were scheduled later today with learned guests and historians around the District.
