ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಜುಲೈ 27, 2025 – “ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಗಿಂತ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಗುಣಧರ್ಮವಿಲ್ಲ. ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪೋಷಕರ ತ್ಯಾಗ, ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನವನ್ನು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಮರೆಯಬೇಡಿ. ಇಂದಿನ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಾದ ನೀವು ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಸಮಾಜದ ಉಜ್ವಲ ಹೊಳೆಯುವ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಗಳಾಗಿರುತ್ತೀರಿ.” ಎಂದು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಿಷಪ್ ವಂ| ಡಾ| ಪೀಟರ್ ಪೌಲ್ ಸಲ್ದಾನ್ಹಾ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಥಾಮಸ್ ಆಲ್ವಾ ಎಡಿಸನ್ರ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿ, ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು “ಮಂದಬುದ್ಧಿ” ಎಂದು ಕರೆದರೂ ಅವರ ತಾಯಿಯ ಅಚಲ ಬೆಂಬಲವು ಅವರನ್ನು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ರೂಪಿಸಿತು ಎಂದು ಬಿಷಪ್ ಸಲ್ದಾನ್ಹಾ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾರವರ ನಿಃಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಮರೆಯದಿರಲು, ಅವರನ್ನು ಪೋಷಕರ ಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಲು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದರು.
ಅವರು ರೊಸಾರಿಯೊ ಕ್ಯಾಥೆಡ್ರಲ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ಯಾಥೊಲಿಕ್ ಆರ್ಗನೈಸೇಶನ್ ಫಾರ್ ಡೆವಲಪ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಆಂಡ್ ಪೀಸ್ (CODP), ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತದಿಂದ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವ ಎಡ್ಯುಕೇರ್ ಬಡ್ಡಿರಹಿತ ಸಾಲರೂಪದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನದ ವಿತರಣೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಪೋಷಕರನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.
ಎಡ್ಯುಕೇರ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನವನ್ನು 2013 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಎನ್ಆರ್ಐ ಉದ್ಯಮಿ, ದಾನಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಷನ್ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ / ಪ್ರವರ್ತಕ ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬವು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಇದು 12 ವರ್ಷಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸಿದೆ. ಇದುವರೆಗೆ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ₹29 ಕೋಟಿ ಬಡ್ಡಿರಹಿತ ಸಾಲರೂಪದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿವೇತನ ವಿತರಿಸಿದೆ. ಫಲಾನುಭವಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 125 ವೈದ್ಯರು, 762 ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರ್ಗಳು, 491 ನರ್ಸ್ಗಳು, 904 ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, 1,013 ಪದವೀಧರರು ಮತ್ತು 137 ಡಿಪ್ಲೊಮಾ ಹೊಂದಿದವರು ಸೇರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ₹20 ಕೋಟಿಯನ್ನು ಫಲಾನುಭವಿಗಳು ಮರುಪಾವತಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಮತ್ತು ₹9 ಕೋಟಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಚಾಲ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
2024–25 ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ, 284 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ₹2,45,47,000 ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ 46 ಪದವೀಧರರು, 58 ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, 72 ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, 84 ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು 24 ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಸೇರಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ 2025–26 ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ, 220 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ₹1,90,10,000 ವಿತರಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು , ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ 87 ಪದವೀಧರರು, 43 ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, 52 ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, 31 ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು 7 ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಸೇರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಸಿಒಡಿಪಿ ಯ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ವಂ. ವಿನ್ಸೆಂಟ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಸ್ವಾಗತಿಸಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಚಾಲನೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಮಹಾದಾನಿ ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾರವರನ್ನು ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ “ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಮಿಷನರಿ” ಎಂದು ವಂ| ವಿನ್ಸೆಂಟ್ ಡಿ ಸೊಜಾ ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಿದರು.
ಪ್ರೇರಕ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ, ಶ್ರೀ ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ಅನುಭವಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡು, “ನಮ್ಮ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಪದವಿಯೇ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇಂದು ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ ಆದರೆ ದುಬಾರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ, ಮಧ್ಯಮ ವರ್ಗದವರಿಗೆ ಕೈಗೆಟುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದೆ. ಎಡುಕೇರ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಒಡಿಪಿ ಈ ವರೆಗೆ 9,000 ಸಾಲರೂಪದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ವೇತನಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದೆ.” ಎಂದರು. ಅವರು ಮುಂದುವರೆದು, “ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಬಂದು ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಗಳಿ ಸಿದ ಜ್ಞಾನವು ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಣ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದ ಅಹಂಕಾರ ತಲೆಗೇರದಂತೆ ಎಚ್ಚರವಹಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ. ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಿ, ಮತ್ತು ಪೋಷಕರು, ಮಾತೃಭಾಷೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾತೃಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಮರೆಯಬೇಡಿ,” ಎಂದು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಮಾತು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಾದ ಮೆಲಿಶಾ ಪ್ರಿಯಾ ಕ್ವಾಡ್ರಸ್ (ಕಿನ್ನಿಗೋಳಿ), ಶಾಲೆಟ್ ರೆಬೆಲ್ಲೋ (ಮುಲ್ಕಿ), ಜಾಯ್ಸ್ ಶರಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ (ಶಂಕರಪುರ), ನಿರ್ಮಲಾ (ಕಡಬ), ಪ್ರದೀಪ್ ಪಿಂಟೋ (ಬಿಜೈ), ಶರಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ (ಮರಿಯಾಶ್ರಮ), ನಿಶ್ಮಿತಾ (ವಿಟ್ಲ), ಮತ್ತು ಅನೀಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ (ಜರ್ಮನಿ) ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ, ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಮತ್ತು ಸಿಒಡಿಪಿಗೆ ಹೃದಯಪೂರ್ವಕ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿ, ತಮ್ಮ ಅನುಭವಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿ ಸೊಜಾ ಅವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಫ್ಲೇವಿಯಾ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ, ಮಗ ಶ್ರೀ ಮನು, ಎಡುಕೇರ್ ಸಲಹಾ ಸಮಿತಿ ಸದಸ್ಯರಾದ ಲೈನಲ್ ಅರಾನ್ಹಾ, ಸ್ಟೀಫನ್ ಪಿಂಟೋ, ಒಸ್ವಲ್ಡ್ ರೊಡ್ರಿಗಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಹೆನ್ರಿ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತರಿದ್ದರು.
ಎಡ್ಯುಕೇರ್ ಫಲಾನುಭವಿ ಶೈನಿ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದರು. ಸಿಒಡಿಪಿ ಸಹಾಯಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ವಂ. ಲಾರೆನ್ಸ್ ಕುಟಿನ್ಹಾ ವಂದಿಸಿದರು. 500 ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಪೋಷಕರು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

Mangalore, July 27, 2025 – “Gratitude is the best attitude. Never forget the sacrifices of your parents, the support of your teachers, and the guidance of your priests. You are the shining stars of the Mangalorean Konkani Catholic community, known globally for its talent and generosity,” said Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore. He was addressing scholars and their parents at the symbolic distribution of the Educare interest-free loan scholarship, managed by the Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODP), Diocese of Mangalore, at Rosario Cathedral.
The Educare scholarship, instituted in 2013 by NRI entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of the Vision Konkani program, Michael D’Souza, and his family, has completed 12 years. To date, it has disbursed ₹29 crore in interest-free loans to students pursuing higher education. The beneficiaries include 125 doctors, 762 engineers, 491 nurses, 904 postgraduates, 1,013 graduates, and 137 diploma holders. Of this, ₹20 crore has been repaid by beneficiaries, with ₹9 crore in ongoing loans.
For the academic year 2025–26, ₹1,90,10,000 was distributed to 220 students, including 87 graduates, 43 postgraduates, 52 engineering students, 31 nursing students, and 7 medical students.
For the academic year 2024–25, ₹2,45,47,000 was awarded to 284 students, comprising 46 graduates, 58 postgraduates, 72 engineering students, 84 nursing students, and 24 medical students.
Citing the example of Thomas Alva Edison, whose mother’s unwavering support shaped his career despite a teacher labeling him “addled,” Bishop Saldanha urged scholars to remember Michael D’Souza’s unconditional support, likening him to a parental figure.
Rev. Fr. Vincent D’Souza, Director of CODP, welcomed the gathering and led the prayer, describing Michael D’Souza as a “missionary of social development” for the Diocese of Mangalore.
In a motivational talk, Mr. D’Souza shared insights from his life, stating, “In our time, a graduation was considered higher education. Today, higher education is common but costly, often unaffordable for middle-class families. CODP has processed 9,000 loans under the Educare program.” He added, “Wealth comes and goes, but knowledge stays. Ensure money and qualifications don’t go to your head. Always practice gratitude, and never forget your parents, mother tongue, and motherland.”
Scholars Melisha Priya Quadras (Kinnigoli), Shallet Rebello (Mulky), Joyce Sharal D’Souza (Pangala), Nirmala (Kadaba), Pradeep Pinto (Bejai), Sharal D’Souza (Mariashram), Nishmitha (Vittal), and Anish D’Souza (Germany) expressed heartfelt gratitude to Michael D’Souza, his family, and CODP.
Educare panel member Prof. Richard Alvares addressed the students, emphasizing the “5G philosophy” – God, Goal, Gratefulness, Growth, and Gift. “Invest time wisely and believe in yourself – that’s the mantra for success,” he said, citing recent regional achievers.
The event was attended by Mrs. Flavia D’Souza, Mr. Manu, Educare advisor Prof. CA Lionel Aranha, former banker Stephen Pinto, educationist Oswald Rodrigues, and Henry D’Souza.
Ms. Shiny D’Souza, an Educare scholar, compered the program, and Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Assistant Director of CODP, proposed the vote of thanks. Over 500 students and parents attended the event.
