‘ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್’ (Wheel Chair) – ಒಂದು ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರೇಮಕಥೆಯ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ; ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಭರವಸೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ.
ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ರಂಜಿಸುವ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಿವೆ, ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಲೋಚಿಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಿವೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಆಳವನ್ನು ತಲುಪುವ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ‘ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್’ – ‘ಎ ಡಿಫರೆಂಟ್ ಲವ್ ಸ್ಟೋರಿ’ (ಒಂದು ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರೇಮಕಥೆ) ಎಂಬ ಉಪಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಮುಂಬರುವ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರವು ಅಂತಹದ್ದೇ ಒಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ಭರವಸೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಿದೆ.
ನನಗೆ, ‘ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್’ ಕೇವಲ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮಿಗಿಲಾದದ್ದು. ಇದೊಂದು ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಮರಣೀಯ ನಂಟನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಫಾದರ್ ಆಲ್ಫ್ರೆಡ್ ಹಾಸ್ಟೆಲ್ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜರ್’ ಆಗಿ ಸಣ್ಣದಾದರೂ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ನನಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಈ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆಯ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಹಸದ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ಚಿತ್ರದ ಪ್ರಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಸಮುದಾಯವು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಬಲ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡೀ ತಂಡದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕೈಜೋಡಿಸುವುದು ನನ್ನ ವಿಶೇಷ ನೈತಿಕ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು 2027ರ ಈಸ್ಟರ್ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವು ಖ್ಯಾತ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕ ಹಾಗೂ ‘ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಸಿನೆ-ಕಲಾ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಟ್’ ಎಂದೇ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರಾದ ಹ್ಯಾರಿ ಫರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಬಾರ್ಕೂರ್ ಅವರ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆಯ ಯೋಜನೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರು ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಕಥೆ, ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆ, ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಹ್ಯಾರಿ ಫರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಬಾರ್ಕೂರ್ ಅವರ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್’ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಮೈಲಿಗಲ್ಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳಾದ ಬ್ಲಾಕ್ಬಸ್ಟರ್ ಹಿಟ್ ‘ನೊಶಿಬಾಚೊ ಖೇಳ್’ (Noshibacho Khell), ‘ಸೋಫಿಯಾ – ಎ ಲವ್ ಸ್ಟೋರಿ’, ಶುದ್ಧ ಹಾಸ್ಯಮಯ ಚಿತ್ರ ‘ಜಾವೋಯ್ ನಂ. 1’ (Zaovoi No. 1) ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರವಾದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಕೃತಿ ‘ಬೆಂಡ್ಕರ್’ (Benddkar) ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿವೆ.
‘ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್’ ಮೂಲಕ ಹ್ಯಾರಿ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಕಥಾಹಂದರದತ್ತ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ; ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಭಾವನೆ, ಮಾನವೀಯ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ನೈತಿಕ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಇದು ನೀಡಲಿದೆ. ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರು ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮನರಂಜನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಳವಾದ ಸಂದೇಶದ ನಡುವೆ ಸಮತೋಲನ ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡುವ ಒಂದು ಹೊಸ ಬಗೆಯ ಕಥನ ಎಂದು ಬಣ್ಣಿಸಿದರು.

ಸ್ಟ್ಯಾನಿ ಆಲ್ವಾರಿಸ್, ಪ್ರಿನ್ಸ್ ಜಾಕೋಬ್, ದೀಪಕ್ ಪಾಲಡ್ಕ ಮತ್ತು ಅರವಿಂದ ಬೋಲಾರ್ ಅವರಂತಹ ಹಿರಿಯ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಹಾಗೂ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಮತ್ತು ಉದಯೋನ್ಮುಖ ಯುವ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ತಾರಾಗಣದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದರ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಜೋಡಿಯಾಗಿ ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವದ ಎಲ್ಟನ್ ಮಸ್ಕರೇನಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಚುರುಕಾದ, ಉತ್ಸಾಹಭರಿತ ಸಲೋಮಿ ಆಲ್ವಾರಿಸ್ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಮತ್ತು ಗೋವಾದ ಸೃಜನಶೀಲ ಶಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಕೈಜೋಡಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಕರಾವಳಿ ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂಬೈನ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಹಾಗೂ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞರ ಈ ಸಂಗಮವು ನಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಶಕ್ತಿ, ವೈವಿಧ್ಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಏಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಈ ಸಹಯೋಗದ ಮನೋಭಾವವೇ ‘ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್’ (Wheel Chair) ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕೇವಲ ಒಂದು ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರವಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಅದಕ್ಕೂ ಮೀರಿದ ಒಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದೆ.

ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುವುದಾದರೆ, ಹಾಸ್ಟೆಲ್ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕರಾದ ಫಾದರ್ ಆಲ್ಫ್ರೆಡ್ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುವುದು ತೆರೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಚಿಕ್ಕದಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ಅದರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಪಯಣದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಸ್ಮರಣೀಯ ಅನುಭವವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ನಾನು ಕೇವಲ ತೆರೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದನ್ನಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ‘ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್’ ಒಂದು ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಿತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಎದುರು ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
ನಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸೋಣ:
ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಕೇವಲ ಒಂದು ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಗಳು, ನೆನಪುಗಳು, ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳು, ಹಾಸ್ಯಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ, ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಅಸ್ಮಿತೆಯ ಧ್ವನಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.
ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಕೊಂಕಣಿ ಚಿತ್ರವೂ ಆ ಅಸ್ಮಿತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂಭ್ರಮಿಸುವ ಒಂದು ಅವಕಾಶವಾಗಿದೆ.

There are films that entertain us. There are films that make us think. And there are films that touch something deep within us. ‘Wheel Chair’, the upcoming Konkani feature film subtitled ‘A Different Love Story’, promises to be one such cinematic journey.
For me, ‘Wheel Chair’ is more than just another Konkani film. It is a personal and memorable association, as I have the privilege of playing a small but significant role as, the ‘Fr Alfred Hostel Manager’. Having become a part of this ambitious cinematic venture, I feel a special moral responsibility to join hands with the entire team in promoting the film and encouraging our Konkani community to support it. The film is being planned for release around Easter 2027.
The film is an ambitious venture of celebrated Konkani filmmaker one and only ‘Konkani Cine-kala Samrat’ – Harry Fernandes Barkur, who has taken on the story, screenplay, dialogues and direction.
It is produced under the banner of Deepa Creations Film Production by Melwin D’Souza Angelore, Deepak Paladka and Harry Fernandes, Barkur.
For Harry Fernandes Barkur, ‘Wheel Chair’ marks another important milestone in a remarkable cinematic journey. His earlier works —blockbuster ‘Noshibacho Khell’, ‘Sophia – A Love Story’, pure comedy ‘Zaovoi No. 1’ and the much-admired cultural masterpiece ‘Benddkar’ — have established his distinctive identity in Konkani cinema.
With ‘Wheel Chair’, Harry once again ventures into a different narrative space, promising a story that combines love, emotion, human values and a meaningful moral message. At the muhurat ceremony, the director described the film as a fresh narrative that seeks to balance entertainment with a deeper message.
A Coming Together of Coastal Talent:
One of the most exciting aspects of ‘Wheel Chair’ is the coming together of established veterans, experienced artistes and promising young talent.
Veteran artistes such as Stany Alvares, Prince Jacob Deepak Paladka and Aravind Bolar are part of the cast, alongside popular and emerging young faces. The lead pair features handsome Elton Mascarenhas and cute, energetic Salomi Alvares.
Once again, the creative energies of Karnataka and Goa are joining hands for Konkani cinema. This coming together of artistes and technicians from across the coastal Konkani belt and Mumbai reflects the strength, diversity and unity of our language and culture.
It is this spirit of collaboration that gives ‘Wheel Chair’ an identity much larger than a single film.
A Film with a Purpose:
The very title ‘Wheel Chair’ immediately evokes curiosity. The film’s poster — featuring a wheelchair against the backdrop of a church and the beautiful coastal landscape — hints at a story that is different from conventional romantic narratives.
The team has spoken about bringing a fresh storyline to Konkani cinema while retaining entertainment value and a meaningful message. That combination could make ‘Wheel Chair’ an interesting cinematic experience for audiences of all generations.
My Small Role, A Great Responsibility:
For me personally, portraying Fr Alfred, the Hostel Manager, is a small role in terms of screen presence, but a memorable experience in terms of the journey behind it.

Therefore, I look forward not merely to seeing myself on the screen, but to seeing ‘Wheel Chair’ succeed as a Konkani film.

The muhurat ceremony itself saw prominent personalities from Konkani cultural and artistic circles come together, with speakers stressing the importance of sustained publicity and community support for regional cinema.
As we look forward to Easter 2027, let us make ‘Wheel Chair’ not just the dream of its producers and artistes, but a collective dream of the Konkani community.
