From Classroom to Corporate: Bhandarkars’ Arts and Science College Signs MoU with MFK to Empower Future Professionals

Bhandarkars’ Arts and Science College, Kundapura, organised an engaging financial literacy and career development programme titled “Empowering Commerce Students: Financial Literacy for Success” on 16 October 2026 at RN Shetty Hall. The programme was jointly organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Career Guidance and Placement Cell, Department of Commerce, and Department of Business Administration, with the aim of equipping students with essential financial knowledge, professional skills, and industry readiness.
A major highlight of the programme was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bhandarkars’ Arts and Science College and Mentors for Kids Foundation (MFK), Bangalore, signed by Dr. Shubhakarachary, Principal. The collaboration aims to create learning opportunities for students through digital educational resources, skill development initiatives, and career-oriented learning support, strengthening the institution’s efforts to prepare students for emerging employment opportunities.
The programme featured Mrs. Arpana Bhat, Lead – Institutional Partnerships, Mentors for Kids Foundation (MFK), Bangalore, as the resource person. Addressing the students, Mrs. Bhat highlighted the importance of continuous learning and upskilling, particularly for final-year students preparing to enter the corporate sector. She emphasised that academic qualifications alone may not be sufficient to meet the expectations of modern workplaces and encouraged students to develop practical competencies, communication skills, professional knowledge, and a willingness to learn throughout their careers.
Introducing the students to MFK’s digital learning initiatives, Mrs. Bhat explained the various courses, Learning Management System (LMS) resources, and expert podcasts available on the organisation’s online platform. She demonstrated how these resources could help students expand their knowledge, strengthen their professional capabilities, and prepare for employment opportunities. She also guided students through the registration process using the LMS link and encouraged them to enrol on the platform and make effective use of the learning resources available to enhance their employability.
The session evolved into an interactive and hands-on learning experience for second-year and final-year B.Com and BBA students. The question-and-answer session provided an opportunity for students to clarify their doubts, interact with the resource person, and gain practical insights into career preparation and professional development. Students also participated in video testimonials, sharing their experiences and reflections on the programme. The interaction encouraged students to take greater responsibility for their learning and explore digital platforms as valuable tools for personal and professional growth.
Delivering the presidential remarks, Professor Sathyanarayana, Student Welfare Officer and IQAC Coordinator, stressed the importance of financial literacy and skill development in building successful careers. He observed that commerce education offers wide-ranging opportunities in banking, accounting, finance, business, and entrepreneurship. However, he reminded students that a degree provides knowledge, while practical skills, the right attitude, and continuous learning are essential for professional success.
Explaining the importance of financial literacy, Professor Sathyanarayana highlighted the need for budgeting, saving, investing, and responsible spending. He encouraged students to develop sound financial habits from an early age and make informed financial decisions. Emphasising three fundamental principles, he advised the students to “Earn wisely, spend carefully, and save regularly.” He further urged them to believe in themselves, strengthen their competencies, and prepare for future challenges, reminding them that the future belongs to those who prepare for it today. He concluded by wishing all students a bright, successful, and prosperous future.
As a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Shubhakarachary presented a memento to Mrs. Arpana Bhat in recognition of her valuable contribution to the programme. Mrs. Mamatha, Lecturer, Department of Commerce; Mr. Rithin Shetty, Head of the Department of Commerce (Vocational); and other faculty members were present during the programme.
The programme was organised by Mr. Rajendra Hoblidar, Placement Officer, and Mr. Ganesh Kumar, Lecturer, Department of Commerce, as part of the college’s commitment to student career development and employability enhancement. Ms. Sanjana Das, final-year B.Com student, compered the programme.
The initiative marked a meaningful step towards bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations. Through the MoU with Mentors for Kids Foundation, exposure to digital learning resources, and direct interaction with an industry-linked resource person, the programme encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning, strengthen their financial awareness, and develop the skills required to succeed in the corporate world. The event reflected Bhandarkars’ Arts and Science College’s commitment to nurturing confident, competent, financially responsible, and career-ready graduates.
