Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society’s SCAF Convention Inspires 150 Students to Lead Social Change
ಹುಣಸೂರು, ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 11: ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಉರ್ಸುಲಿನ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ಕನ್ ಎಜುಕೇಶನಲ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ (ರಿ) ತನ್ನ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಏಜೆಂಟ್ಸ್ ಫೋರಮ್ (SCAF) ಸಮಾವೇಶ 2026 ಅನ್ನು ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಹುಣಸೂರಿನ ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಕ್ತಾಯಗೊಳಿಸಿತು, ಯುವಜನರು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನ್ಯಾಯಯುತ, ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿಯ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಒಳಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸಮಾಜವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವಂತೆ ಹೊಸ ಕರೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು.
“ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ಚಾಲನೆ ಮಾಡಿ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ” ಎಂಬ ವಿಷಯದ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಸಮಾವೇಶವು ಸಮಾಜದ 29 ಶಾಲೆಗಳ 150 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿಸಿತು. ಈ ಸಭೆಯು ಹದಿಹರೆಯದವರ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣ, ನಾಯಕತ್ವ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿತು, ಯುವಜನರು ಜಾಗೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಮೀರಿ ಚಲಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅವರ ಕಾಳಜಿಯನ್ನು ಕಾಂಕ್ರೀಟ್ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸಲು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿತು.
ಸಮುದಾಯ ಅಗತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವ, ಹಾನಿಕಾರಕ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಸವಾಲು ಮಾಡುವ ಮತ್ತು ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಗೆ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಿರುವ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಯುವ ನಾಯಕರನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುವ ಸಮಾಜದ ನಿರಂತರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳ ಒಂದು ಭಾಗವಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಮಾವೇಶ ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿತು.
ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗೆ ಸವಾಲು ಹಾಕಿದ ಯುವಕರು
ಎರಡನೇ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಆಯೋಗದ (KSCPCR) ಮಾಜಿ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಡಾ. ತಿಪ್ಪೇಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಕೆ.ಟಿ. ಅವರು SCAF ಥೀಮ್ ಲೋಗೋವನ್ನು ಅನಾವರಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಇತರರು ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸುವವರೆಗೆ ಕಾಯುವ ಬದಲು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದರು.
ಉರ್ಸುಲಿನ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ಕನ್ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಘದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಸೀನಿಯರ್ ಮಿಲ್ಲಿ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಅವರು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ವೃತ್ತಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡ್ಯೂಲ್‌ಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಅಗತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಲು, ಇತರರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿಜವಾದ ಕಾಳಜಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು, ಉಪಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತಮ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವತ್ತ ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕವಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಲು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು.

ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನು ತರುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಲು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಬಲ ಸಾಕ್ಷ್ಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಒಳನೋಟಗಳನ್ನು ಅಧಿವೇಶನಗಳು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿವೆ.
ಅಜೀಂ ಪ್ರೇಮ್‌ಜಿ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್‌ನ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಜಯಮ್ಮ, ತಮ್ಮ ದೂರದ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಬಾಲ್ಯವಿವಾಹವನ್ನು ಸವಾಲು ಮಾಡುವ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡುವ ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಧೈರ್ಯ, ದೃಢನಿಶ್ಚಯ ಮತ್ತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಅಡೆತಡೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸಲು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅವರ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿತು.
ಕೊಪ್ಪಳದ ಯುನಿಸೆಫ್‌ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಶ್ರೀ ಹರೀಶ್ ಜೋಗಿ, ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯು ಜನರ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಪರಿಹಾರ, ಘನತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸೌಕರ್ಯವನ್ನು ತರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಉಪಕ್ರಮಗಳು ನಿಜವಾದ ಅಗತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸುತ್ತವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾದ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನುಂಟುಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದು ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅವರು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು.

ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಯುವ ಆಯಾಮವನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಶೇಪ್ ದಿ ಫ್ಯೂಚರ್‌ನ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕಿ 17 ವರ್ಷದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಅಸವರಿ ಅಗರವಾಲ್, ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣ ಉಪಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ತರುವ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಅವರ ಅನುಭವವು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ನಾಯಕತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ವಯಸ್ಸು ಅಡ್ಡಿಯಲ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ಸಣ್ಣ, ಉದ್ದೇಶಪೂರ್ವಕ ಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಸಹ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಗೆ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಿತು.

ಗುಂಡ್ಲುಪೇಟೆಯ ಎರಡನೇ ವರ್ಷದ ಪದವಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ದೀಪ್ತಿ ಆರ್, ತಮ್ಮ ಸವಾಲಿನ ಜೀವನ ಕಥೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವಯಂ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಕಷ್ಟದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಾಯ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಂಬಲವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸಿದರು.ಅದೇ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರು ಯುವಜನರು ತಮ್ಮ ಹೋರಾಟಗಳನ್ನು ಧೈರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಎದುರಿಸಲು, ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ತಲುಪಲು ಮತ್ತು ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯತ್ತ ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇಡಲು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿದರು.

SCAF ಸಮಾವೇಶ 2026 ಕಳೆದ ಐದು ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹದಿಹರೆಯದವರ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಉರ್ಸುಲಿನ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ಕನ್ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಘದ ನಿರಂತರ ಬದ್ಧತೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಂವೇದನಾಶೀಲತಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು, ಜೀವನ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಅವಧಿಗಳು, ವೃತ್ತಿ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ಮತ್ತು ಪೋಷಕರ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ-ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಉಪಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ, ಸಮಾಜವು ಸಮಕಾಲೀನ ಸಮಾಜದ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಲು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾದ ಜ್ಞಾನ, ಆತ್ಮವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಯುವಜನರನ್ನು ಸಜ್ಜುಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯ ಸಾಧಕರನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟುಗೂಡಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ, ಈ ಸಮಾವೇಶವು ಕಲಿಕೆ, ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಚಾರ ವಿನಿಮಯಕ್ಕೆ ವೇದಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿತು. ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯು ಅರಿವಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಆದರೆ ಬದ್ಧತೆ, ಸಹಯೋಗ ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರು ಗುರುತಿಸುವಂತೆ ಇದು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಿತು.
ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಮೌನವಾಗಿ ನೋಡುವವರಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯದ ಆದರೆ ಧೈರ್ಯ, ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸೃಜನಶೀಲತೆಯಿಂದ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಪರಿಹರಿಸಲು ಉಪಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಯುವ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸುವ ಹಂಚಿಕೆಯ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳ ಸಭೆ ಮುಕ್ತಾಯವಾಯಿತು.
SCAF ಮೂಲಕ, ಉರ್ಸುಲಿನ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ಕನ್ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಘವು ಇಂದಿನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ನಾಳೆಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಾನವೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಗ್ರ ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಯುವಜನರನ್ನು ಸಬಲೀಕರಣಗೊಳಿಸುವ ತನ್ನ ಧ್ಯೇಯವನ್ನು ಪುನರುಚ್ಚರಿಸಿತು.
Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society’s SCAF Convention Inspires 150 Students to Lead Social Change
Hunsur, October 11: The Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society (R), Mangaluru, concluded its three-day Social Change Agents Forum (SCAF) Convention 2026 at St Joseph Institutions, Hunsur, Mysuru, with a renewed call to young people to become active participants in building a more just, compassionate and inclusive society.
Held under the theme “Drive the Change, Build the Future,” the convention brought together 150 students from 29 schools of the society. The gathering highlighted the importance of adolescent empowerment, leadership development and social responsibility, encouraging young people to move beyond awareness and translate their concern for society into concrete action.
The convention formed part of the society’s continuing efforts to nurture socially conscious young leaders capable of identifying community needs, challenging harmful practices and contributing to sustainable social transformation.
Young people challenged to initiate change
The second day featured the unveiling of the SCAF theme logo by Dr Thippeswamy K T, former member of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR). Addressing the participants, he urged them to take the initiative in responding to social issues rather than waiting for others to begin the process of change.
Rev. Sr Milly Fernandes, president of the Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society, released the book on Social Change and the Career Guidance Modules. In her address, she encouraged the students to recognise social needs, develop genuine concern for others, take initiative and work collectively towards building a better future.
Inspiring journeys of courage and transformation
The sessions featured powerful testimonies and insights from resource persons who encouraged the students to recognise their potential to make a difference.
Ms Jayamma, a resource person from the Azim Premji Foundation, shared her life story of challenging her own child marriage and choosing education despite her remote background. Her journey demonstrated how courage, determination and education can help individuals overcome social barriers and transform their lives.
Mr Harish Jogi, Programme Manager for Child Protection at UNICEF, Koppal, emphasised that sustainable social change must bring meaningful relief, dignity and comfort to people’s lives. He encouraged the participants to ensure that their initiatives addressed real needs and made a tangible difference in their communities.
Ms L. Sonia Dominica, Fairtrade USA Advisor for Asia and Africa, facilitated a think-tank session that enabled the young participants to analyse social issues, reflect on their own attitudes and identify their strengths. The session encouraged them to take responsibility for their actions and develop the confidence to become active agents of change.
Adding a youthful dimension to the discussions, 17-year-old Ms Asavari Agrawal, founder of Shape the Future, shared her journey of bringing about social change through meaningful initiatives. Her experience inspired the participants to understand that age is no barrier to leadership and that even small, purposeful actions can contribute to a larger transformation.
Practical demonstrations promote sustainable living
The convention also offered opportunities for experiential learning through demonstrations organised by S.G. Kendra, Mysore, and Roshni Trust, Hangal, the social action centres of the Ursuline Franciscan Congregation.
Participants were introduced to herbal medicines, the preparation and benefits of organic manure, water conservation techniques and drug addiction prevention. These activities highlighted the importance of environmental protection, sustainable practices and community well-being, connecting the concept of social change with everyday life.
Cultural evening honours Mother Nympha
The second day concluded with a vibrant cultural evening featuring the artistic talents of students from Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society institutions.
A special tableau portraying the life and leadership of Mother Nympha was enacted under the direction of Mr Christopher John D’Souza. Through the dramatic presentation, the students highlighted her inspiring journey and leadership legacy. Dance performances and mime presentations by students from UFES institutions added colour and creativity to the evening, celebrating the values and vision that continue to inspire the society’s educational mission.
Valedictory programme calls for courageous action
The convention concluded on October 11 with a valedictory programme that brought the participants together to reflect on their learning and the responsibility they carry as young change-makers.
Ms Deepthi R, a second-year degree student from Gundlupet, shared her challenging life story and journey of self-transformation. Highlighting the importance of seeking help and support during difficult times, she encouraged young people to face their struggles with courage, reach out for guidance and take positive steps towards personal growth.
Schools and individuals who had demonstrated commendable social change initiatives were honoured during the programme. Those who contributed to the successful organisation of this pioneering convention were also felicitated in recognition of their efforts.
In her concluding message, Sr Philomena Noronha called upon the young social change agents to make a firm commitment to supporting initiatives that promote social welfare and development. She encouraged them to carry the lessons of the convention into their schools, families and communities and translate their intentions into responsible action.
Five years of commitment to adolescent empowerment
The SCAF Convention 2026 reflects the Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society’s sustained commitment to adolescent empowerment over the past five years. Through sensitisation programmes, life-skills education, social change sessions, career guidance and parent capacity-building initiatives, the society seeks to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence and values necessary to address the challenges of contemporary society.
By bringing together students, resource persons and social change practitioners, the convention provided a platform for learning, reflection and the exchange of ideas. It encouraged the participants to recognise that social transformation begins with awareness but becomes meaningful through commitment, collaboration and action.
The three-day gathering concluded with a shared vision of nurturing a generation of young people who will not remain silent observers of social challenges but will take the initiative to address them with courage, compassion and creativity.
Through SCAF, the Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society reaffirmed its mission of empowering young people to drive change today and build a more humane and inclusive future for tomorrow.
