ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಸೇಂಟ್ ಜೋಸೆಫ್ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಮೂರನೇ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಘಟಿಕೋತ್ಸವ ಭಾನುವಾರ ನಡೆದಿದ್ದು, ಸುಮಾರು 2,300 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಪದವಿ ಪ್ರದಾನ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಫೇರ್ಫ್ಯಾಕ್ಸ್ ಫೈನಾನ್ಶಿಯಲ್ ಹೋಲ್ಡಿಂಗ್ಸ್ ಲಿಮಿಟೆಡ್ನ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕ, ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಣಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಪ್ರೇಮ್ ವಾಟ್ಸಾ ಅವರು ಕೆನಡಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯಮ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ ತಮ್ಮ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಭಾರತದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಹೊಸ ಅವಕಾಶಗಳ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಭಾರತವು ಶೇ.7.8ರ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಯ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಎಂದರು.
ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಬನ್ನೇರುಘಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿನ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಮತ್ತು ಎಂಬಿಎ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಹೊಸ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್ನ ಶಿಲಾನ್ಯಾಸ ಫಲಕವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೇಮ್ ವಾಟ್ಸಾ ಅನಾವರಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ, ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್ನ ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಸುಮಾರು 5 ದಶಲಕ್ಷ ಡಾಲರ್ ನೆರವು ನೀಡುವುದಾಗಿ ಘೋಷಿಸಿ, ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಯೋಗದ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನೂ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.
ಗೃಹ ವ್ಯವಹಾರ, ಮಾಹಿತಿ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಜೈವಿಕ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಹಾಗೂ ಇ-ಆಡಳಿತ ಸಚಿವ ಪ್ರಿಯಾಂಕ್ ಖರ್ಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಅತಿಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದೊಂದಿಗಿನ ತಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಅವರು, 30 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇದೇ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಜಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರೂ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ದೊರೆಯಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಪದವೀಧರರು ಸದಾ ಕುತೂಹಲದಿಂದ ಕಲಿಯಬೇಕು, ವೈಫಲ್ಯಗಳಿಂದ ಪಾಠ ಕಲಿತು ತಮ್ಮ ಗುರಿ ಸಾಧನೆಯತ್ತ ಮುನ್ನಡೆಯಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಸಲಹೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ರಾಜ್ಯಸಭಾ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಮನ್ಸೂರ್ ಅಲಿ ಖಾನ್ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ, ಯುವಕರು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸುವ ಮನೋಭಾವವನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದರು. ದೇಶದ ಭವಿಷ್ಯ ಕೇವಲ ಸಂಸತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಕಚೇರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳು, ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾಲಯಗಳು, ತರಗತಿಗಳು, ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸುದ್ದಿಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ರೂಪುಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದರು. ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜಾಲತಾಣಗಳಾಚೆಗೂ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಲಹೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಲಿಂಕ್ಡ್ಇನ್ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ನಿಜವಾದ ಪರಿಚಯವಲ್ಲ ಎಂದರು. ಕೃತಕ ಬುದ್ಧಿಮತ್ತೆಯ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯುತ ಬಳಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೌಶಲಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನೂ ಅವರು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಉಪಕುಲಪತಿ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಡಾ. ವಿಕ್ಟರ್ ಲೋಬೊ, ಎಸ್.ಜೆ., ಪದವಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಕೇವಲ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಅರ್ಹತೆಯಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಬುದ್ಧಿಮತ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿದ, ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವವನ್ನು ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿದ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯುತವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ಮನೋಭಾವವನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ ಪಯಣದ ಪ್ರತೀಕವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದರು.
ಘಟಿಕೋತ್ಸವದ ಸಮಾರೋಪದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ಕುಲಪತಿ ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ಫಾದರ್ ಡಯೋನಿಸಿಯಸ್ ವಾಜ್, ಎಸ್.ಜೆ., ಪದವೀಧರರು ಆತ್ಮವಿಶ್ವಾಸ, ಉದಾರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿನಯದಿಂದ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಬೇಕು ಹಾಗೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯುತವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಘಟಿಕೋತ್ಸವದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವಿಧ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿನ್ನ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ ಪದಕ ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಒಟ್ಟು 47 ಪದವಿ, 22 ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಹಾಗೂ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಇತರೆ ಗೌರವ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಪದಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರದಾನ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. 46 ಪದವಿ ಹಾಗೂ 22 ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಬೆಳ್ಳಿ ಪದಕ ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

Prem Watsa announces $5 million support for the University and promises possible collaboration
Bengaluru: St Joseph’s University celebrated its third annual convocation on Sunday, conferring degrees on around 2,300 graduates.
Speaking at the ceremony, Priyank Kharge, Minister for Home Affairs, Information Technology & Biotechnology and e-Governance, recalled his own experience with the University, saying, “30 years ago, I applied to this university and was rejected.” Describing himself as an “above-average student,” Kharge encouraged the graduating students to remain curious, learn from failures and continue striving towards their goals.
Kharge attended the ceremony as the Guest of Honour, along with Mansoor Ali Khan, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). Prem Watsa, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, Canada, was the Chief Guest. The ceremony was held at the Campus Auditorium in the presence of Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz, S.J., Chancellor; Rev. Dr Victor Lobo, S.J., Vice-Chancellor; and Pro-Chancellor Rev. Fr. Dr Melwyn Pinto, S.J.
Addressing the gathering, Prem Watsa spoke about his experience of building and running his business in Canada. Highlighting India’s economic growth and emerging opportunities, he said, “India is going through a terrific transformation with 7.8% economic growth.” Mr Prem Watsa unveiled the foundation plaque of the new campus for engineering and MBA programs at Bannerghatta and his support of around $5 million for the infrastructure at Bannerghatta and promised a possible collaboration.
Mansoor Ali Khan, addressing the graduating students, said, “I like Gen Z because they question things and politicians. Please continue to do that.” He observed that a country’s future is shaped not only in Parliament and government offices, but also in universities, laboratories, classrooms, hospitals and newsrooms. He encouraged students to build lives beyond social media, adding, “Your LinkedIn headline doesn’t define you.” He also emphasised the ethical use of artificial intelligence and the importance of skill development.
In his address to the graduating students, Rev. Dr Victor Lobo, S.J. said, “Each one here carries not merely a degree but the imprint of a journey that has shaped intellect, tested character and awakened the responsibility of becoming a force for good in a world.”
Concluding the ceremony, Chancellor Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz, S.J., urged the graduates to use their abilities responsibly and wisely. “Approach your life with confidence, generosity and humility and use the gifts God has given you responsibly and wisely,” he said.
The ceremony honoured around 2,300 graduates. Students from various departments were also recognised with gold and silver medals. The gold medals included 47 undergraduate medals, 22 postgraduate medals and four other honour medals, while the silver medals included 46 undergraduate and 22 postgraduate medals.
