Tribute to Vinod Gangolli (Fernandes)
“ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳ್ಳನು ಬರುವಂತೆಯೇ ಕರ್ತನ ದಿನವು ಬರುತ್ತದೆಂದು ನೀವೇ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದಿದ್ದೀರಿ” ಎಂದು ಸಂತ ಪೌಲನು ಥೆಸಲೊನೀಕದವರಿಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದನು. 1 ಥೆಸಲೊನೀಕ 5:2.
ಯೇಸು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು, “ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಗಿರಿ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕರ್ತನು ಯಾವ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಮನೆಯ ಯಜಮಾನನಿಗೆ ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಯಾವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳ್ಳನು ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅವನು ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು ಮತ್ತು ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಕಳ್ಳತನ ಮಾಡಲು ಬಿಡುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳಿ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನೀವು ಸಹ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿರಬೇಕು, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀವು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯಕುಮಾರನು ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ.” (ಮತ್ತಾಯ 24: 42-44).
“ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಗಿರಿ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಿಮಗೆ ದಿನ ಅಥವಾ ಗಂಟೆ ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲ.” (ಮತ್ತಾಯ 25:13).
ಈ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ದಿವ್ಯವಾಣಿ ಲೈವ್ ಯೂಟ್ಯೂಬ್ ಚಾನೆಲ್‌ನ ಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿನೋದ್ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಅವರ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ನೆರವೇರಿದವು. ೧೯೭೧ ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಜೆಸ್ಯೂಟ್ಸ್‌ಗೆ ಸೇರುವವರೆಗೂ ಅವರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ (ಈಗ ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ) ಕುಂದಾಪುರ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಗಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ನೆರೆಯವನು, ಮತ್ತು ಆಪ್ತ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನಾಗಿದ್ದನು.
ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ ೭ ರಂದು ಬೆಳಗಿನ ಜಾವ ೧.೦೦ ಗಂಟೆ ಸುಮಾರಿಗೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ವಾಮಂಜೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೃದಯಾಘಾತದಿಂದ ಅವರು ಇಹಲೋಕ ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಕಳೆದ ಹಲವಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನ ಸಂಗಾತಿ ಜಾನೆಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೂವರು ಪುತ್ರರಾದ ಅವಿನಾಶ್, ಅನುಪಮ್ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀತನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸೊಸೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಅವರ ತಾಯಿ ಡೆಲ್ಫಿನ್ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿ ಗಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿಯ ಸರಸ್ವತಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಐದನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಅನ್ನು ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಕಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ವಲೇರಿಯನ್ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಗಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿಯ ಸರಸ್ವತಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ೬ ರಿಂದ ೧೦ ನೇ ತರಗತಿ) ನಮ್ಮ ದೈಹಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಬೋಧಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಸಮರ್ಪಿತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಜಾತಿ, ವರ್ಗ ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸದೆ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಂದ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗೌರವಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು. ಶ್ರೀ ವಲೇರಿಯನ್ ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷ್ ಆಡಳಿತದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರು ನಮ್ಮ ಗಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಲ್ಯಾಟಿನ್ ಗಾಯಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ನಮ್ಮ ನೆರೆಹೊರೆಯವರು ಮತ್ತು, ಪ್ಯಾರಿಷನವರಾದರಿಂದ ವಿನೋದ್ ಫೆರ್ನಾಂಡಿಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಕಿರಿಯ ಸಹೋದರ ವಿಕಾಸ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಬಾಲ್ಯದಿಂದಲೇ ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ.
ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರ ಕೋರಿಕೆಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ, ನನ್ನ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಸಂದರ್ಶನಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಕಂ ಮಾತ್ಯಂ ವೀಡಿಯೊಗಳನ್ನು ರೆಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಮಾಡಲು ವಿನೋದ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬದೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಕಟ ಸಂಪರ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೆ. ಅವರು ವಿವಿಧ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಕುರಿತು 37 ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಂದರ್ಶಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ 26 ವೀಡಿಯೊಗಳನ್ನು YouTube ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅಪ್‌ಲೋಡ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಮಂಕಂ ಮಾತ್ಯಂನ 40 ವೀಡಿಯೊಗಳನ್ನು ರೆಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು 27 ವೀಡಿಯೊಗಳನ್ನು ಅಪ್‌ಲೋಡ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ನಾವು ಮೇ ಮತ್ತು ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 2025 ರಲ್ಲಿ ರೆಕಾರ್ಡಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡಲು ಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದೆವು. ನನ್ನ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಸ್ವಗತ ನಾಟಕ “ಜುದಾಸ್” ನ ಒಂದು ಗಂಟೆಯ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಅವರು ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಉತ್ಸುಕರಾಗಿದ್ದರು.
ವಿನೋದ್ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರು ನಿಯಮಿತ ನಡಿಗೆ, ಅನ್ನ ಮತ್ತು ಮೀನಿನ ಕರಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸರಳ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಅವರು ಯೇಸು ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ಯಾಥೋಲಿಕ್ ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೂರಿರುವ ಮೌಲ್ಯಾಧಾರಿತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ದಿವ್ಯವಾಣಿ ಲೈವ್ ಯೂಟ್ಯೂಬ್ ಚಾನೆಲ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವರು ಭಕ್ತಿ, ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ದೇವರು ವಿನೋದ್‌ಗಾಗಿ ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತಮ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದನು.
ಅವರ ಅನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತ ಸಾವು ಅವರನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದಿದ್ದ ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಆಘಾತಗೊಳಿಸಿದೆ. ಅವರ ಹಠಾತ್ ಸಾವು ಈ ಗ್ರಹದಲ್ಲಿನ ನಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನೀರಿನ ಗುಳ್ಳೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ನಮಗೆ ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವು ನೀರಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ತೇಲುತ್ತವೆ ಆದರೆ ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಸಿಡಿಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಸಾವು ಕಳ್ಳನಂತೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ನಿರ್ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿರಬೇಕು, ಅದೇ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಧ್ಯೇಯವನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಬೇಕು.
ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 8 ರಂದು ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 10 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ, ಅವರ ಅಂತ್ಯಕ್ರಿಯೆ ವಾಮಂಜೂರು ಚರ್ಚ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ. ನಾನು ಅಂತ್ಯಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವರ್ಗೀಯ ತಂದೆಯು ವಿನೋದ್‌ಗೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ, ಶಾಂತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಆನಂದವನ್ನು ನೀಡಲಿ.
ವಿನೋದ್ ಬಾಬ್, ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೈಹಿಕ ಉಪಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ ನಗುವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ನಾವು ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗುವವರೆಗೆ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ ವಹಿಸಿ. ದಿವ್ಯವಾಣಿ (ಬೆಳಕಿನ ಧ್ವನಿ) ಯಿಂದ ನೀವು ಈಗ ದೇವವಾಣಿ (ದೇವರ ಧ್ವನಿ) ಗೆ ತಲುಪಿದ್ದೀರಿ.

Vinod Fernandes (02.10.1960 – 07.04.2025)
St. Paul warned Thessalonians saying “For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” 1 Thessalonians 5:2.
Jesus has said, “Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24: 42-44).
“So stay awake, for you do not know the day or the hour.” (Matthew 25:13).
These statements literally fulfilled in the life of the Founder and Director of Divyavani Live YouTube Channel, Mangaluru Mr. Vinod Fernandes. He was my neighbour, parishioner, and close friend at Gangolli, Kundapura Taluka, Dakshina Kannada District (now Udupi District), Karnataka, till I joined the Jesuits in 1971.
He left this world around 1.00 am on the 7th April due to cardiac arrest at Vamanjoor, Mangaluru where he was residing with his life partner Janet and three sons Avinash, Anupam, and Jeetan, and daughter-in-law for the last several years.
His mother Delphin teacher taught me English as a subject in V Std in a Kannada medium school at Saraswati Vidyalaya Primary School, Gangolli. His father Valerian Fernandes was our Physical Education Instructor at Saraswati Vidyalaya High School (Kannada medium 6th to 10th Std), Gangolli. Both of them were dedicated teachers and highly respected by everyone in the village irrespective of caste, class, and religion. Mr. Valerian was in the parish administration and he was one of the main Latin singers in our Gangolli church.
Being our neighbours and parishioners, I knew Vinod Fernandes and his younger brother Vikas from their childhood.
In the recent years, at his request, I was in close contact with Vinod and his family for recording my Konknni interviews and Mannkam Môtyam videos. He has interviewed me for 37 Konknni programmes on various topics. Out of which he has already edited, and uploaded 26 videos on the YouTube. He recorded 40 videos of Mannkam Môtyam and uploaded 27 videos.
We had planned recording in the month of May and September 2025. He was really keen to do a one hour Konknni film of my Konknni monologue play “Zudas”.
Vinod was an active person. He was a disciplined man who lived a simple lifestyle with regular walks, rice and fish curry. Moreover, he was a value-based person rooted in the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church. Through his Divya Vani Live YouTube channel, he used to broadcast devotional, religious and other related Konkani programs. But God had different and better plans for Vinod.
His unexpected death has shocked all who knew him. His sudden death reminds us that our life on this planet could be compared to water bubbles. They float on the water but soon will burst. Death comes like a thief. Hence, we should be ready all the time for our departure, while continuing our mission with total dedication.

On 8th April at 10am, his funeral will be at Vamanjoor Church. I will be attending the funeral. May Our Heavenly Father reward Vinod with eternal rest, peace, and bliss.
Vinod bab, I miss your physical presence and serene smile. Till we meet, intercede for all of us who were close to you. From Divyavani (Voice of Light) you have now transcended to the Devavani (Voice of God).
